When did you loose baby weight?

Hi all :)

I had my little boy 5 months ago and have been exercising regularly and eating a healthy balanced diet for around two months and haven’t lost anything! Before have a baby I was 10 stone with the same diet/training routine that I have been on the last 2 months but am still 12 stone , I love weight training because of the way it makes me feel and gives me more energy! But I’m starting to feel really disheartened that I haven’t lost anything and also wondering why! I really want my old clothes to fit soon as I can’t afford any more, I just wondered what everyone else’s experience was/is? XX

Are you breastfeeding? That helps!

hol92 · 11/08/2023 23:08

I breastfed for the first 12 weeks but not any more, I also had to have a c section (not sure if that makes a difference!) i just don’t know what I’m doing wrong, I just want to wear somthing other than the 3 smock dresses I own haha! X

I didn't breastfeed and could have written your post at five months. At about eight months it suddenly fell off me!

I lost the weight slowly over his first year. A little after 12 months and I was back to my previous size.

Please try and be patient. 5 months is still pretty early

Shayisgreat · 12/08/2023 07:30

I didn't lose much weight until I was able to sleep through the night regularly.

Knockon · 12/08/2023 07:32

I am still 3kg heavier than pre pregnancy; but I was the same in that I needed regular sleep to even think about losing weight!

CapEBarra · 12/08/2023 07:34

For me, I held on to the weight during breastfeeding (I was ravenous all the time) and only dropped the weight when I stopped.

ChristmasJumpers · 12/08/2023 07:36

I'm 4.5 months in and my weight is really bothering me. I have not found the motivation to improve my eating or the time to exercise yet so I've no room to complain really!

iamnottoofatiamjusttooshort · 12/08/2023 07:37

I'm still trying .. my youngest is 28!

Sorry couldn't resist 🤭 just enjoy your babies , nothing else matters ❤️

Diddykong · 12/08/2023 07:38

I lost 3 stone quite quickly without trying. It was breastfeeding a baby who was ravenous but mainly because my baby never slept unless he was in motion so I'd be walking miles and miles everyday with a sling.

TropicalTrama · 12/08/2023 07:42

Nothing like that sorry, basically the 6 weeks it takes for uterus to contract. I had a c section though and found having your insides rearranged really killed my appetite!! Also, didn’t breastfeed so didn’t need to consume any extra calories.

Turtlegurl888 · 12/08/2023 07:44

I'm also 5 months postpartum and had a section and I gained 5 stone (!) in pregnancy. Lost 2 stone within a week but still got 3 to shift. I totally agree with pp that I can't even think about it yet without my sleep improving. My LO is still up 3-4 times a night. I ff though.

I'm just in survival mode right now. I feel like I dont have time to look after myself like I know I should drink a lot more water and eat a good breakfast, but 9 times out of 10 the baby needs me or there's something more important to do and I end up not eating til my DP gets home at 6 🫠 once baby can entertain themselves for a bit or nap independently I hope it'll change :( with you though, it's horrible feeling frumpy. I was a stone overweight before preg too!

SunRainStorm · 12/08/2023 07:45

I lost weight immediately but I attribute it all to breastfeeding and walking the pram (for lack of anything better to do!).

Peachespeachesohpeaches · 12/08/2023 08:06

After a few months both times but I'm a slightly different shape than pre pregnancy - wider through the ribcage and hips, smaller boobs (thanks DC!). I ended up selling a load of clothes that were the right size but I couldn't zip up or didn't look right anymore.

Summer2424 · 12/08/2023 08:28

Hi @hol92
Pre baby i had a toned body, i did alot of pilates but oh god since having baby (had c section too) i really piled on the pounds. I ate healthy but still the weight wouldn't shift. I started doing 1000 calorie burner videos on You Tube and only ate porridge for dinner. I lost loads of weight, i actually started wearing short shorts again. I'm pregnant now with baby number 2 so have piled the pounds back on lol xx

Janieforever · 12/08/2023 08:31

Hi op. I’m afraid your diet isn’t the same. It might be the same food, but you will be eating larger portions or snacking more. Biologically and scientifically it’s not possible for you to be eating the same, you are consuming enough calories to maintain at your current weight, which is more calories than to maintain at 10 stone.

hol92 · 12/08/2023 08:45

Thank you so much for all of your comments deep down of course I know it’s not important, my baby really has made me the truest happiest that I have ever been. It’s just wearing those same baggy clothes is making me feel down about myself, I guess I should sell clothes on Vinted and re buy bigger but I don’t even know my style any more haha and I have recently started doing freelance work again which I fit in in any little spare time I have so it’s fining the time to do it!

@Janieforever sorry I probably didn’t explain that very well haha I mean the same as in ‘healthy’ I used to eat 2200 cal at day to maintain and I’m now eating 1800, maybe I do need to drop it more though to see the results! X

@Peachespeachesohpeaches i think this is also part of the problem! My hips and rib cage are definitely wider! X

Oh same!! The rib cage thing is so annoying. I weigh less than I did pre pregnancy, but there were dresses I couldn't zip up because my ribs had expanded.

Never knew that was a thing.

Cdoc · 12/08/2023 10:36

I could have written this!

Baby is 5 months, though I am exclusively breastfeeding. I only gained 2 stone during pregnancy (23 BMI pre pregnancy) and still have a stone to lose. Given my baby was over 8lb, plus all the fluid and breastfeeding I naively thought I’d be back at pre pregnancy weight by now!

I do know for me I eat too much (feeding makes me starving constantly) but I also think the lack of sleep is a killer. Hoping it comes off eventually but finding it so hard!

CatandSpoon · 12/08/2023 10:38

9 months pp.
I started doing yoga daily and intermittent fasting (aka skipping breakfast). Then jogging maybe 2 a week
Lost about a stone in maybe 2 months

Janieforever · 12/08/2023 11:42

sadly I suspect so, it’s so easy to underestimate calories. Right now you’re eating enough to maintain at this weight, whatever that number is, 1800 or 2000, or 2200. It’s irrelevant, what it tells you is the amount you’re eating now is maintenance.

so to loose you need to drop from this point. I’d aim for 1500.

FoodFann · 12/08/2023 11:53

I was the same at 5 months pp. A very drastic calorie deficit shifted the weight off me. But it’s not healthy thing to do. I would focus on health rather than weight OP

BHRK · 12/08/2023 11:55

Almost two years.. then I got pregnant again

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/08/2023 11:56

Never. He's 17 now. (In fact I'm heavier now than I was pregnant).
