Is my baby not fitted in her car seat correctly?

What am I doing wrong? She sits up, I can’t stop her, her head won’t stay against the back of the seat. My friend made a comment about it not being fitted properly but according to the cosatto manual everything is as it should be. Any advice? It’s a cosatto all in one rotate if that helps

She’s almost 7 months old

I'm a long time away from using car seats but I think it looks like you have one that is too old for her. She should still be facing backwards in a baby seat I think.

dementedpixie · 04/08/2023 19:48

Are the straps supposed to be above or below her shoulders? Are they tight enough?

Is there an insert that needs to be removed?

I'm no expert (and it's hard to tell from this angle!) but the straps don't look right to me - they look like they're sliding off her shoulders!

Baby is still facing backwards! Look at the other seats!

ReeseWitherfork · 04/08/2023 19:50

I’ve got the same seat and DS looks a lot like that but he’s older (so we don’t use the insert anymore). Just make sure the straps are tight enough.

Your baby is adorable.

ImInACage · 04/08/2023 19:50

The straps are way too loose and not on her shoulders, in an accident she'd fly straight out. Is there another set of holes on the back that they should be threaded through?

Esssa · 04/08/2023 19:50

My guess would be try lifting the headrest a little and make sure the straps are right by her neck before tightening. Try without the jacket too.

Brenna24 · 04/08/2023 19:51

Them lifting their head to look around is fine but the straps should be right up on her shoulders. When you do them up loosen them off, clip in the harness, then place them on her shoulders and hold them together at chest height while you pull the straps tight. If they are still slipping off her shoulders try putting the headrest up a notch. It is hard to tell from the photo but it looks like the headrest is too low to me.

Iamonholiday · 04/08/2023 19:53

No advice but your daughter is adorable 🥰

CFornot · 04/08/2023 19:53

Are those pink inserts removable? It might be time to remove them. The straps look loose.

reluctantadmissions · 04/08/2023 19:53

@QuestionableMouse see I knew I was missing something! Still the seat looks huge compared to baby (who is as others have said very adorable!).

Gnomegnomegnome · 04/08/2023 19:53

The straps aren’t on her shoulders properly.

She is adorable btw!

Lovehearts82 · 04/08/2023 19:54

To me it looks like the head rest needs to be a bit higher so that the shoulder straps can fit properly above her shoulders, so maybe you need to move them to the next higher level, there's usually 3 shoulder strap levels. This is the adjustment I had to make with both mine as they got a bit bigger and used to lean forward, See if that helps.

thecapitalsunited · 04/08/2023 19:54

Take her jacket off, position the straps so they are touching her neck on either sides and come out just below her shoulders, pull up on the straps to take the slack out around the hips then tighten the straps until you can only get two fingers underneath. You should get a much better fit. At the moment the straps are way too slack and are falling down her shoulders.

There might be a YouTube video showing how to put baby in your particular car seat. I found seeing it made it so much easier than just reading it.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 04/08/2023 19:54

I think the jacket may be making the straps slip off? If she needs the jacket for warmth then do it up so it can't slip open. The straps should be tight enough that only two fingers can fit under them, and should feel tight on the fingers. Is her bum in the right place? Far enough down?

Pushpull · 04/08/2023 19:57

Have you tried messaging cosatto. We have a Joie and they were really helpful advising us. Agree those straps look too loose and thecapitalsunited has given some great advise on that. It looks like the chest pads are too long. I would try pulling them down the strap a bit and see if that helps

Listen2YourMother · 04/08/2023 19:58

Thank you everyone for all your great advice! :) I’ll have a look on YouTube and see if there’s a video demonstrating it and double check the manual. For some reason I’ve always found the straps don’t get tight enough or they’ll feel tight at the top but slack everywhere else. I’m not sure about it

she is adorable :) thank you

Does the headrest move up? I don't know this seat specifically, but normally the head surround sits just above the shoulders.

Also I think the pink insert can come out, assuming that's what it is.

This is dangerous advice, when rear facing, the straps need to below the back of the shoulders. They should be above forward facing.

Wasywasydoodah · 04/08/2023 20:00

The pink insert doesn’t look right to me - when does it say you should take it out?

Flipflopflopflip · 04/08/2023 20:03

The insert looks like it needs to move up or be taken out. Straps are far far too loose and the jacket looks too bulky. She is not secure at all. Definitely spend some time adjusting it.

Katonhottinroof · 04/08/2023 20:04

Please take the coat off! It’s far too bulky for the seat and if you Google there’s loads of safety reasons children shouldn’t wear coats in a car seat

User363957392727 · 04/08/2023 20:05

Hoodie off (the hood behind her will be pushing her forward)
sit baby right back and straps should go either side of neck - they are too far on the shoulders at the minute
is there another insert to use? The bottom strap should be across thighs but it’s more tummy?
do the straps come out at shoulder height? Or does the head rest notch need changing?
i don’t think it looks tight enough? I think it’s just a finger underneath the strap you should be able to fit?
im no expert but this is what google taught me 12 months ago
cute baby!

littlepeached · 04/08/2023 20:07

There's a great Facebook group for this!Jacket needs to come off and straps need to be closer to her neck.
