Is my baby not fitted in her car seat correctly?

What am I doing wrong? She sits up, I can’t stop her, her head won’t stay against the back of the seat. My friend made a comment about it not being fitted properly but according to the cosatto manual everything is as it should be. Any advice? It’s a cosatto all in one rotate if that helps

Hard to tell from the angle of the picture but the headrest looks too low and pushing her shoulders forward. See what the manual says about where the straps should sit when rear facing.

Hoodie/coat off so straps can be close to neck.

NoTouch · 04/08/2023 20:12

Sure is too loose and doesn't look safe to me.

She looks too high up for the height of the seat back. I'd remove the padded insert and work out how to tighten the straps. Last time at had a seat the height of the straps at the shoulder were adjustable too to get a snug fit.

If you cant get it snug go to a centre that fits seats to help.

fireflyloo · 04/08/2023 20:13

Straps are definitely too loose. Think the advice is that they should not go into seat with a coat one as it should be snug to their body. Bring it to Halfords and they might check it for you.

Jacket off, cover over the seat belt if baby is cold
take insert out
put baby in with loose straps, make sure they both come over the shoulder tucked against the neck, fasten the seat belt then tighten the strap.

if the head rest moves up, move it up slightly and then do buckle, head rest then tighten. You shouldn’t be able to get her shoulders out of the seat belt if fastened correctly

CopperSeahorses · 04/08/2023 20:25

Pull her bum towards the buckle too.

Caspianberg · 04/08/2023 20:34

We have a maxi cosi that’s a similar Newborn-4 year rotate seat. On ours the insert is classified as a newborn insert, and I think it was only until baby was 62cm which was about 3 month old in our case. If yours is similar, she’s probably outgrown the insert part.

Heckythump1 · 04/08/2023 20:36

The headrest is way too low and the pink insert in the head part needs removing (only in the head part not the body part)
I'd go on one of the Facebook groups for car seat safety, as they are experts. I will warn you though, they won't like this car seat as it's only been very minimally tested.

This is dangerous advice, when rear facing, the straps need to below the back of the shoulders. They should be above forward facing.

Oh thanks for pointing that out I actually meant over the shoulders, didn't realise I'd put above.

smileandwavexx · 04/08/2023 20:46

Love her car seat!!!

I just don't think the jacket helps but I would try it with and without the inserts. My dd is 9m an she's a chunk so I took them out an she fits a lot comfier an the straps seem to fit where they should xx

Lavender2021 · 04/08/2023 20:49

From the manual
The headrest is too low most of the time the shoulder straps need to be at or just below the shoulders (go by the straps not the soft shoulder pads).
I would remove the jacket and not use anything with a hood in the car.
An insert most likely needs to come out.

There’s a few car seat Fb groups, and one can be a little hostile fair warning but the advice is sound, but it can turn into a pile on. Type into Fb search car seat safety Uk or erf uk, or uk car seats they’ll come up

IggityZiggity · 04/08/2023 20:52

Cosatto seats aren't great- not sure if you know but they are minimally tested (at 30 mph and no faster).

Hood up or jacket off so the hood isn't behind her pushed her forward. If it still isn't tight enough I would contact the manufacturer as it looks like she would fly out in a crash.

Mmr224 · 04/08/2023 21:00

We have two similar spin seats. Looks like your baby may not need the insert now. Try removing it as it changes angle of baby and will sit her closer to the back of the seat aa well. Try moving headrest up a little bit after you see her sitting in the seat without the baby nest. Take hoody/jacket off and leave a blanket in the car if she might be cold. Make sure straps are sitting correctly and as tight as they will pull and try sending another photo :-)

And tested at 30mph actually means two cars colliding at 15mph each!

Tbh I'd ditch the seat for a better one as Cosatto don't test particularly well in crash tests.

At 7 months she should still fit in an infant carrier (you can use these until she maxes out the weight or her head is above the shell).

If rear facing the straps should be level with her shoulders or slightly below, and the headrest could potentially do with coming up to facilitate that.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/08/2023 21:09

I think she looks too small for the seat. I had mine in the baby seat (bucket type) until weight/height max was reached then switched to they type of seat you have.

OooohAhhhh · 04/08/2023 21:17

She is too small for it, those shoulder straps are not secure. We have a Joie swivel seat & they are great

I thought It was more that cosatto haven’t been independently tested and don’t disclose if they do additional in house testing so they aren’t recommended seats due to the fact we don’t know how they perform.

can you provide proof that this seat doesn’t perform well? The most important thing is that the child is rear facing. Not everyone is in the postion to fling additional money at car seats, the cosatto ones aren’t cheap OP might not be able to afford another.

(no I’m not defensive because I have a cosatto, I’ve got 2 erf plus tested seats)

Fatat40 · 04/08/2023 21:27

It's not the right car seat for her age/size. She should still be in an infant carrier.

ClinkyWotsit · 04/08/2023 21:30

Try Extended Rear Facing (ERF) car seat safety group on Facebook. The people on there will give fit advice and can also give guidance on next stage seats if you choose to continue rear facing up to 25/36kg.

Mumto32022 · 04/08/2023 21:39

She should be rear facing until atleast 15 months due to the new laws. I think she’s just too small to be using that car seat

reluctantadmissions · 04/08/2023 19:47

I'm a long time away from using car seats but I think it looks like you have one that is too old for her. She should still be facing backwards in a baby seat I think.

She is facing backwards though

You can see she clealry is RF

I used to have that car seat. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole again! Very bad safety testing.

Pull her bum towards the buckle too.

Nappy to buckle is for infant carriers. This seat needs baby's bum to be at the back of the seat.
