Mumsnet in the early ‘00’s. I’m obsessed

You may say I have too much time on my hands but I’m completely fascinated & obsessed at reading old threads from the early 2000’s on MN…. Don’t you think it’s weird/ironic that the topics of the threads themselves pretty much haven’t changed at all in 20+ years? It literally is the same old crap different day…I was born in 2000 so for me it’s like reading what my mum would have posted about being a parent… anyway, just a thought.

Moondog turned out to be a BNP sympathiser.

Did she aye?

"BNP are a nasty bunch (have a journo friend on the Telegraph who has covered them for ages) but it is understandable (not justifiable however) that native Britons feel disenfranchised and pushed to one side for a variety of complex reasons."

Moondog 2006.

Other posts on threads have her saying that she can understand why lots of British people feel disenfranchised enough with both Tories and Labour to turn to the BNP. She also copied some paragraphs from the BNP "we're all lovely really" blurb to illustrate this, while saying "I'm not for a nanosecond a BNP supporter" (also 2006)

Perhaps it was too subtle for you?

I'd be amazed if @moondog turned out to be a BNP sympathiser because she was incredibly helpful to many of us on the special needs boards, going above and beyond.

Lemieux7 · 24/06/2023 18:37

Um, yes thank you I don't need to be patronised. I've been here for many years, I saw her posts over time and I remember the day someone said 'well you're showing your true colours' I have children with SEN too which is why I'm not keen on her.

I remember her advising someone who has a child as severely disabled as mine, to twist his arm if he was physically aggressive.

I suppose if I was being kind I could assume that someone got into her account.

The BNP's Nick Griffin on Question Time, what are your thoughts? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/inthee_news/845623-The-BNP-39-s-Nick-Griffin-on-Question-Time-what

One of the advantages of being autistic is that I.remember.everything.

2 days ago, 2 decades ago. It's a savant skill where I lack in many other ways.

Can you perhaps quote the post you're referring to because I'm not sure where it is.

Lougle · 24/06/2023 19:12

Having read the thread, I'm not sure what to make of it. I got the impression that Moondog was pointing out the cognitive dissonance of pointing to the BNP and calling them outrageous when many mainstream parties are/have been engaged in similar issues. But I'm no expert.

2006 here. I'd love to know what happened to the poster who, I think lived in Paris and had a daughter. She always had an opinion on everything, mostly that France was better 😉 and then she just disappeared. Can think of her name.

Bonsoir. I think she was ill.

Rockbird · 24/06/2023 23:45

Yes that was her. I'm sorry to hear she was ill, I didn't know that.

I joined soon after my daughter was born in 2001. It was a kinder, wittier place. Used to enjoy reading funny bits to my husband.

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/01/2024 23:13

@Rockbird Bonsoir is alive and well and still enjoying life in Paris, albeit from the left bank now.
