Pram in the summer

Hello guys, hoping someone may be able to help me out. I have a Fox 3 pram, John Lewis massively sold the fact that it had a large extendable hood, UV 50 for use in the Summer.
I am worried that using the hood fully extended is like putting a blanket or muslin over the front of the pram, which I know is a big no,no.
I have contacted Bugaboo, who can't tell me if it's safe like this and instead keep trying to sell me the 'breezy hood'.
Does anyone know if the pram is safe to use like this? It has a mesh panel in the top of the hood and around the side of the bassinet.

I think logically it will make it very hot with the pram hood down all the way; I had a bugaboo with a pram hood like that and I didn’t put it all the way down in the summer and instead bought a parasol. I’d pay for the bugaboo one though as I bought a universal one and it didn’t last

I think it would make it incredibly hot and I wouldn't want to use it. Instead I would get a parasol.

@SeeingSpots thank you, I wondered the same. It's just annoying as John Lewis demonstrated the pram like this for summer use and made it a massive selling point.

The breezy hood is worth the investment FYI.

You'll have 3 summers of pram use with this baby and more if you go on to have other children

I have a bugaboo buffalo and used the hood all the way down when my DD was little (she was a July baby) and it actually didn't get hot.
I'd try yours and see how hot you think it feels underneath and if you think it's too hot then don't use it all the way down

If it's got mesh at the top and sides of the bassinet then that provides airflow so I wouldn't see a problem with using it all summer.

@kernowpicklepie thank you, he has a sheepskin liner in there too which keeps him nice and cool as well. He didn't seem hot at all yesterday in there.

So this pram has the mesh at the top, the opening where the hood doesn't come all the way down and the mesh at the bassinet, as long as they're all open then it's absolutely fine in there! If you're worried stick a thermometer in there and see if the temperature goes up much to test it.

I would get the breezy shade from bugaboo.
As soon as you baby isn’t teeny newborn or sleeping they aren’t going to want to go for a walk wide awake in the dark with no view.

My son is only 6 weeks old, but will definitely look into the breezy, although the UV protection isn't as good in them due to the mesh.

Get a Snoozeshade, they're brilliant. Felt cool inside on hot days and kept it nice and dark for naps. Only problem is they're not really big enough once you have a toddler as their legs don't fit in.

The hood on the pram does look hot. You weren't to know though!

It is UV 50 though so may keep it cooler inside despite looking hot 🤷🏻‍♀️. I'll look into alternatives though x

Another vote for the snoozeshade. Has been invaluable to us when we’ve been out in the Caribbean heat and is great for napping too.

I also recommend a portable fan that clips onto the side of the pram to keep air flowing. Prams can get so hot in the summer.

Tbh, I wouldn’t worry too much about the uv 50 etc. You mainly just need the sun not blinding them so shade.

Ifs it’s hot and sunny, you aren’t going to be walking around all day with a small baby baking. My Ds was beginning May baby (3 years ago), and we live southern Europe so it’s hot all summer. I never took him really for a walk in the hot sun that first summer, just used sun umbrella to get between a and b, and walked in the shade in woods or early or late in the day. Used sling a lot so sun hat and no extra shade

No I wouldn't think it is safe like this. A parasol is a good idea. I'd get rid of the feetcover too. Too hot.
