Children can't really sleep too much! It's good for their brains.

If he's going to sleep at a decent time in the evening and sleeping through til the morning that sounds perfect. My 3 yo doesn't nap but I know lots who do. In fact I know of a 6 yo who still has an afternoon nap!

Lucky you!

Mine had stopped napping by 2.

At her CM there was another child her age who was still napping regularly at 3. However as they are all going to school in September the napping has stopped.

PotatoCrossroads · 04/06/2023 15:32

Mine just turned 4 and has started to only nap on busier days, such as nursery in the morning, going out shopping, having visitors. A normal "home day" he can manage without and means a grumpy but quick bedtime. We're slowly trying to prepare him for school in September.

It sounds fine
My two year old ( almost in a week) has 30-45 minutes out and about in the push chair most days . She'd nap longer at home 1-1.5 hours but I don't stay home for it now usually so a short nap has to do

Loopyloo159 · 04/06/2023 16:25

Cannot remember with my children but 3.5 year old granddaughter only naps if out in car but she was still napping at nursery until about 2 months ago

PinkMimosa · 04/06/2023 16:40

DC1 dropped his nap at almost bang on 3 years but was a bit miserable for quite a while and it didn't improve night time sleep.

DC2 was still napping some days when they started school at 4. They still like a good nap now Wink

My little boy is 3 next month. He stopped napping at home from about 2.5 but still naps for around an hour at nursery 3x a week.

Pinkflipflop85 · 04/06/2023 16:46

3 and a half year old naps in the day. Whe has sleep apnoea, so she's always knackered in the afternoon and can't keep her eyes open!

PlantDoctor · 04/06/2023 16:52

Sounds fine. DD stopped napping about 2.5 unless we've had a busy outing and she falls asleep in the car on the way home. Usually sleeps 7:30pm - 7am ISH at 3 yo.

hotinthesun · 04/06/2023 17:12

my babies are 18 & 21 years and they still have a nap when they can 😂

LovelyNanny26 · 04/06/2023 17:50

Thanks everyone.I just worry he won't be able to last without napping at the nursery school this September.9am to 3pm sounds like a long day for such small kid.Maybe I just push his bed time earlier.

Don't stress! Three months is a long time for a little kid and so much changes. Also, why don't they have nap provision for three year olds?

Sussexcricket · 04/06/2023 18:18

My daughter is starting nursery 9-3 3 days a week in September to at 2 years 3 months old.
She's doing Monday Tuesday and Friday
She'll probably have a snooze in the push chair when I get my older one from school at 3.15

moleeye · 04/06/2023 18:40

Enjoy it! My 4 year old dropped his nap before he was 2 😩😩

Danikm151 · 04/06/2023 18:48

My 3 year old tends to only nap on the bus home if we’ve had a day out.
he shocked nursery by having a 30 min nap last week. 😂

he’s always really stroppy after a nap but sleeps 7:30-6:30 every night.

I miss when he would nap haha

massivesalads · 04/06/2023 18:50

My son turned 3 in feb and still has a 1.5hr nap! Honestly I would encourage it for as long as possible as it's so good for their development and brain.
He's starting pre school in September for 3 days a week so will probably skip naps for those days but will let him nap on his days at home if he's sleepy.

Hummusanddipdip · 04/06/2023 18:54

Ds is the older end of 3 (he's 4 in July) he doesn't nap usually, but will if we're in the car for more than half hour. He dropped his afternoon nap in September/October last year but will have the odd half hour once in a blue moon at nursery

Viewfrommyhouse · 04/06/2023 18:57

Ds napped well into his 4th year. I was quite sad when he stopped 😂.

ReeseWitherfork · 04/06/2023 18:57

DS dropped his nap officially at 3y3m, but he’s now 3y11m and more often than not still has an hour or so on the sofa in the middle of the day. And he starts school in September, god help us. But if we are out all day and he doesn’t have a chance to crash then he copes OK. I think he’ll be fine OP, I’m sure he’ll adapt! He might just need a nap on the days he isn’t there.

Kitcaterpillar · 04/06/2023 18:58

Mine is nearly 3 and still a napper. I had a crisis that it was just me being lazy and wanting her to nap the other day (where do our brains get this stuff?) so didn't put her down for one. Found her passed out on the sofa at 4pm so won't be trying that experiment again!

bussteward · 04/06/2023 19:02

Jealous of all these nappers. I think we had to stop DD’s nap at some point because she otherwise wouldn’t go to bed. She still needs it some days at four, though, so we attempt to enforce quiet/chill time instead zonked in front of the TV.

bloodywhitecat · 04/06/2023 19:05

Mine (a few weeks off 3) is awake at 4am most days so naps at around 10am for 40 - 90 minutes.

Rattlethestars · 04/06/2023 19:07

DS was ready to cut naps at around age 2.
DD stopped regular naps just before she turned 1 🙃 right around COVID/lockdown and WAY too interested in what older brother was doing. She turned 4 last week, and sometimes dozes in the car if she wakes early/has a busy morning but not always guaranteed.

Basically if your DC is otherwise healthy and it isn't causing issues with bedtime, make the most of it!! 😁

Pinkywoo · 04/06/2023 19:12

DS1 dropped all naps at 20 months, only after that did he sleep through the night. He does 7-8 most nights, I can't wait til his little brother sleeps that long!

VivaVivaa · 04/06/2023 19:17

He’s sleeping for 11-12.5 hours total in 24 which is bang on average for a 3 yo. I think you either have a napper or you don’t. 3 yo DS stopped napping shortly after turning 2 having fought it for a long time, but has subsequently slept a pretty solid 11.5-12h at night instead. As long as they are getting the sleep I suppose it doesn’t matter too much when!
