And how long did you leave them with someone else be it nursery, family member or friend etc?

When DD1 was 3mo we left her for little while with my parents while we went for a meal. Honestly I was desperate to get back to her and we just wolfed our main courses, skipped dessert and raced home again, so we were only out about an hour and a quarter Grin

Tisfortired · 23/05/2023 08:21

DS1 was 19 days old when I went out for a birthday meal with DP which feels crazy looking back. I was still sore, bleeding, tired… yet for some reason absolutely insistent on going out for dinner. My mum had him for about 3 hours. I was only 22 at the time.

DS2 was 12 weeks and my mum had him for about 3 hours whilst me and DP went out for lunch and a browse around the market. DS2 is now 5 months and I’ve not left him since, I’m considering asking my mum to have him again for DPs birthday in a few weeks but I’ll see how I feel.

DD1... went for dinner with friends when she was a few weeks old, leaving her with DH. Prior to that my mum and DH had taken her for walks in the pram while I had a shower or similar.

DD2... when she was a few days old, DD1 became ill so had to take her to the doctors and the pharmacy. I was the only driver in the household at the time. As DD2 had also been in hospital the day before, for an unconnected matter, it was better to leave her at home rather than in car seat for an hour.

3yo when he went to school (we're not in the UK).

PaperNests · 23/05/2023 08:40

12 months when she started nursery.

discan · 23/05/2023 08:41

I never left mine with anyone but their dad until they stared nursery, then school. Aside from that they always had me or him around. It was a hard slog but we made it out the other end.

7Worfs · 23/05/2023 08:41

For stuff like dentist appts both babies were left with DH from a few months old (1-2 hours at most).
Nursery from 9-10 months old.
Never overnight.

takealettermsjones · 23/05/2023 08:42

First time leaving them with DH - three days old, as I had to go into hospital. First time not with me/DH - about four months, left with family member for two hours. Baby was absolutely fine, I was on pins the whole time 😂

Hugasauras · 23/05/2023 08:45

Oh both have been left with DH from day 1. I perhaps wrongly assumed OP meant with someone who isn't her/baby's dad.

PurBal · 23/05/2023 08:47

DH very early, I EBF so it was never for long. Other than DH 7mo, 4 hours, once weaning had started and I was confident DS would manage without a feed. Overnight 10 months. Every family are different.

Parky04 · 23/05/2023 08:47

3 hours after we left hospital. Stayed with DM whilst we went to watch the football. He is now 21 and it doesn't seem to have done him any harm. Unfortunately, we lost 3-1 to one of our main rivals!

StampOnTheGround · 23/05/2023 08:50

Of course I left DS with DH from very early on, that doesn't count though, I'm assuming you mean actually leaving them with not a parent?

We went out for a meal for a couple of hours when he was a few weeks old and it was lovely, although all we spoke about was him! We haven't had a night away yet, but will be when DS is 14 months old. We've left him till after midnight though (coming back from a child free wedding)

Grumpyfroghats · 23/05/2023 08:50

About 8 weeks, my MIL took him with her on a walk for about half an hour. She was so chuffed to push the pram on her own, it was kind of adorable.

Then not for a few months until he had surgery.

3WildOnes · 23/05/2023 08:51

With my DH, around a week old with each of them. With my mum, a few months old.

boomshakalakaboom · 23/05/2023 08:51

My eldest very early on. She had her first sleepover at my mums at 5 months.

My youngest is 8 months and I've only ever left her for 4 hours whilst I used one of my KIT days. She's EBF otherwise I would have left her wayyyyyy sooner.

Bunny2021 · 23/05/2023 08:53

6 weeks when DH and I went out for lunch/massage for our wedding anniversary.

6 months overnight.

TheMoops · 23/05/2023 08:53

I left DS with MiL for a few hours when he was 3 weeks and she started having him overnight from about 10 weeks.

He did one day a week at nursery from 6 months and went full time at 10 months.

Not being rude at all but if you described the first 22 months as a 'hard slog' you made it through, what benefit did you get from not having anyone else mind the baby?

I would think that was a fair assumption. Imagine roles reversed and a man saying when he first left the mother alone with their child 🙄

Ruibies · 23/05/2023 08:59

6 weeks, I re-started driving lessons (having paused when I went in for induction) and he stayed with my mum for 1.5h, and continued to do so weekly/fortnightly til I passed recently.

4months, left him with a neighbour for 45 mins to take my dog to the vet while DH was at work.

Overnight, 11m. With my mum for 2 nights, and she came to stay at ours when we were at a wedding so he was in his own bed etc.

Regularly leave him with all grandparents for a few hours in the daytime now at 1yo, but wouldn't still really be comfortable sending him to someone else's house overnight without us.

Ruibies · 23/05/2023 09:00

Oh and he's in nursery 8am-6pm, 4 days a week now so I guess I leave him with relative strangers all the time.

Malariahilaria · 23/05/2023 09:00

Dc1 6 weeks. Left him with adoring grandma to go out for a meal. Like pp we were only out for a little while maybe 3 hours. I was bf so couldn't stay out long but it was lovely to get to eat with two hands and chat. DC 2 probably a lot later as had given up on socialising by that point!

Barrysmintybiscuits · 23/05/2023 09:02

First time was when she was 3mo for 2-3 hours with my parents. Then overnight when she was about 7mo again with my parents.

ChimneyPot · 23/05/2023 09:02

Eldest, from birth because was in ICU for 2 weeks and she couldn’t be there unless one of the paediatric nurses brought her in.
Twins from about a week old for 30 minutes with a maternity nurse so I could collect DD1 from nursery.
Youngest 7 months when I went to work.

SirWalterElliot · 23/05/2023 09:03

Assuming you mean not with their dad?
DC1 - 3 months, for a couple of hours. Overnight was 13m.
DC2 - can't remember but probably 3m ish again. Overnight 22m
