Will my babies eyes go brown?

Hey hey!

My little boy is 3 weeks tomorrow! I've read that eyes are likely to stay blue if they're bright .. x

What are we thinking? Will they stay blue or go brown do we reckon?

If two brown eyed parents have blue recessive, then they can have a blue eyed child.

Yes ! Both my parents had brown eyes , my Mothers were very brown and I have very blue eyes . My Son in his twenties has also stayed very blonde and neither GP has blonde hair , although I have .

EarringsandLipstick · 13/05/2023 20:17

They'll be blue.

Babies eyes are quite dark initially before their eye colour becomes apparent. Once it does, that's the colour they'll stay. However, the true colour can keep changing till 1 year usually eg getting to be a deeper brown or more hazel or brighter blue.

But not usually changing from definitively blue to brown.

I have brown and DH has blue. Our DD has brown and DS has blue. Who knows? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Both my girls had bright blue eyes until around 2 & now both have striking green eyes! My parents and me all blue, my husband Brown his mum has blue dad has green!

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 13/05/2023 20:23

We both have brown eyes and daughter has blue I was so shocked they didn't change. Some of the grandparents have blue eyes so guess it comes from there x

WheelsUp · 13/05/2023 20:27

My ex and I have brown eyes. Our children have blue, green and brown eyes. We both have a blue eyed parent so the grandparents genes must matter too.

SargentSagittarius · 13/05/2023 20:27

I reckon they’ll stay blue, OP. They look a lot brighter than the ‘blue’ of eyes of babies that go brown.

DannyZukosSmile · 13/05/2023 20:28

No idea. Too early yet. A woman I know has a baby who is 7 months old, and he currently has blue eyes. She has blue-grey eyes, and the baby's dad (who she split with at 6 months pregnant,) has brown eyes. There is a chance the baby's eyes may go brown. She said she is dreading it as she hates brown eyes. Bit harsh, and a bit odd seeing as how she shagged a man with brown eyes! Confused

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 13/05/2023 20:31

Could go either way. My eldest had eyes like that and they got bluer and bluer. My youngest had lighter eyes than that and they got darker and are now brown. My eldest had a reddish tinge to her hair at 3 weeks and went blonde. My youngest had dark hair and went red! Both are absolutely beautiful for what it's worth 😉

I believe brown is dominant so generally unless both parents have blue eyes they will darken.

Nope!
Both my children have blue eyes and their dad does not.

Cotswoldmama · 13/05/2023 20:33

They look very light blue so I think they're likely to stay blue but it's really a waiting game. On my mum's side everyone has blue eyes apart from my cousin and I who have green eyes. On my dad's side everyone has hazel/ brown eyes. My eldest had blue eyes until he was 10 months old they they turned sort of green and then dark brown. My youngest was born with very dark blue eyes that went brown very quickly but have lightened to a light hazel brown.

slipsand · 13/05/2023 20:33

My daughter had exactly the same colour eyes as your son until she was around 1 and then they went very light blue/grey.

Wow! She clearly wasn’t bothered about someone’s eyes being brown when she was sleeping with them! People are strange sometimes lol I find it really sad that someone can ‘hate’ an eye colour when really we are lucky & blessed to be able to see and that’s what matters. However that’s her opinion but some of the most striking eyes I’ve ever seen have been brown, in fact all eye colours are stunning in their own ways, beauty really is in the ‘eye’ of the beholder. (Yes I know cheesy pun but couldn’t help myself!) 🤣

PurpleishDahlia · 13/05/2023 20:45

I say they'll stay blue 🔵

DelurkingAJ · 13/05/2023 20:48

DSid had eyes like that until she was about a year, then they darkened fairly quickly to brown. So I’m afraid my anecdotal evidence is you can’t tell!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/05/2023 20:52

My dd had really bright blue eyes and they turned hazel, like mine. Her dads are blue.

FlounderingFruitcake · 13/05/2023 20:56

No idea! My DD had blue eyes like that until over 1 and they didn’t fully settle until she was 3 and they’re now a greeny hazel. If blue eyes are in the family it’s certainly a possibility though.

Joy5 · 13/05/2023 21:13

I have blue eyes, DH has hazel, two sons have blue, one has green - always thought brown was dominant until my sons grew up and kept their birth colour

This is a weird 'fact' that keeps being repeated. It's not true. If it was, you wouldn't have siblings where one has brown and one has blue eyes or green eyes and that happens a lot

ForeverTired89 · 13/05/2023 21:31

My parents had blue and brown, my sister has blue and I have brown.

My MIL has brown, FIL has green, DP has brown and he has 5 siblings.. half have green, half have brown.

My DD has brown and it was very obvious. They were very dark grey/blue when she was a newborn. I think your sons will stay blue!

treebranch011 · 13/05/2023 21:42

I have blue eyes, dh has brown eyes, dc has green eyes, who knows how genetics works

ashamed1235 · 13/05/2023 21:47

My dad had blue eyes and mum brown. Three children: one blue, one brown and one green.

Dibblydoodahdah · 13/05/2023 21:52

I have green eyes, my DH has brown eyes. My MIL insisted that DS1 would have brown eyes and every time we visited when he was a baby she would tell us that his eyes would turn brown soon. After a year, she gave up. DS1 has green eyes like me, DS 2 has blue. Neither of them have brown eyes!

Whichnumbers · 13/05/2023 21:54

Nottodaty · 13/05/2023 20:22

My dd1 had blue eyes, but then they changed to green around 3. I could see them changing as I looked at them, some days they'd look blue others green until they stayed green. DD was upset as she wanted blue eyes like mummy 😁so perhaps green eys take longer to appear/change

Dahlia5 · 13/05/2023 21:58

I have green eyes, my DH has brown eyes and our DS has blue, which I find really bizarre.
