Paying for diesel with children

This topic of conversation recently came up with a friend and it got me thinking. When you fill your car with diesel and have your baby / toddlers in the car, do you leave them in the car and run in and pay, or do you unload them and bring them in with you?

Much safer to leave them in the car than try and traipse them across the forcourt

Comefromaway · 21/04/2023 13:50

But I'd mostly use pay at the pump

tenbob · 21/04/2023 13:50

Leave them in the car. Much safer and quicker than taking them across the forecourt

Leave them in the car.

Leave them in the car but make sure it's locked.

Paramummy3 · 21/04/2023 13:56

leave them in the car

RagingWoke · 21/04/2023 13:56

Most I use are at a the pump but if there wasnt when they were babies mine were usually asleep in the car so I left them.

As toddlers I'd leave them if they were happy but as they got older and talked more sometimes they wanted to come in with me- mostly ds who learned there are snacks inside the shop pretty quickly so often wanted to come in and choose something.

SemperIdem · 21/04/2023 13:56

It is safer by far to leave them in the car.

Isanyholeagoal · 21/04/2023 14:00

Take with me every time. I’d never leave a baby/child alone in the car. Usually use pay at pump though

KateyCuckoo · 21/04/2023 14:07

We have a drive through kiosk at Asda so just use that.

scarecrow22 · 21/04/2023 14:09

Reading the title, I momentarily thought you would use children to pay for your diesel Wink

shakeitoffsis · 21/04/2023 14:09

Always leave them in the car

scarecrow22 · 21/04/2023 14:10

I used to wait by the first (maybe second) pump from the pay point so I could leave them in the car but see them.

User0610139736 · 21/04/2023 14:11

What about when you pay for your unleaded? 🤔

OnNaturesCourse · 21/04/2023 14:16

Depends.

I will always look for pay at pump. If that's not available...

1 - if I have all the kids they stay in the car (the oldest knows what to do in emergency, for example the youngest chokes)
2 - if I only have the oldest they stay in the car.
3 - if I only have the youngest they come in with me, or I wait to get fuel another time if possible.

I honestly just don't feel comfortable in the safety of leaving young babies, toddlers or kids in the car. You don't know what could happen or how long you'll be in the shop.

beastlyslumber · 21/04/2023 14:18

I don't think you should pay with children. Cash or card is fine.

CornishGem1975 · 21/04/2023 14:19

Leave them in the car, but somewhere visible

BridieConvert · 21/04/2023 14:32

I usually use pay at pump but the other day I'd forgotten my card so had to go into the shop. Left them in the car with the doors locked. Was back within 2 mins I'd say!

ditalini · 21/04/2023 14:39

I'm well past this stage, but back in the day I'd take them with me until they were old enough not to get distressed being left. After that point it's safer for them to be in the car.

SaltyGod · 21/04/2023 14:52

So many threads on this.

I leave them in the car. I don't know anyone that takes them out, and I've never seen anyone take them out in all my years of filling up cars.

Confusion101 · 21/04/2023 15:30

Friend takes hers out. I leave mine in and run in to pay.

There is only one pump at one garage that's pay at the pump locally to me. It's not really a thing here yet!

Didn't realise there was other threads on it, soz.

During the price hike I considered it 😛

This again?. I'm beginning to think this must be some kind of sponsored subject. Op just check the weekly thread for replies

PuttingDownRoots · 21/04/2023 15:34

One baby in a carry seat is easy to get out. A baby plus toddler or two toddlers its safer to leave them.

I always left the car unlocked as in my mind it was safer in an emergency.

My youngest is now 10. Its definitely safer to leave them in the car away from the chocolate displays!! 😂

Have already apologised for not checking if there was a thread about this. 🙄 Yes I am in fact getting free diesel for life as a result of posting this! Thanks for your support.
