Large chicken pox scar

My son had chicken pox about 3-4 weeks ago and didn't get many spots but the ones he did were huge. Unfortunately one on his forehead has left a large crater 😖

I am putting dermatix silicone gel on it twice a day. But I feel so awful about it everytime I look at it, I worry it will never look any better.

In harsh light and sunlight it looks even worse and more concave.

Has anyone's child ever had a similar sized pox scar that has improved over time? I know it won't disappear but some stories about them healing and looking less prominent would make me feel so much better!! 😖🙏🏻

It’s only a few weeks old.
min a years time you’ll struggle to find a silvery mark from if

hookpan · 18/04/2023 18:52

It's more the deepness of it rather than the colour that worries me. It's a proper crater 😫

Keep treating it. It takes months to resolve. And if it doesn't he'll have a great (false) story about it in his teenage years. Seriously, don't worry.

AnnaMagnani · 18/04/2023 19:00

It will fade.

I used to have a scar in the middle of my forehead where my DM picked the last scab off because she wanted me to go back to nursery

You can see it in some of my childhood photos.

No sign of it after a couple of years.

newtolineofduty · 18/04/2023 19:02

My daughter had awful chicken pox when she was five months old. She was covered and I was worried she'd be covered in scars. She had afew darker skin patches on her face for a while which faded and are now totally impossible to see. The only scars shes ended up with are a couple of her back-a similar size and shape to your little boys. They're now just white and not noticeable at all, and I didn't do anything to treat them. All kids end up with some kind of scars so he'll just be like any other kid ❤️

Gregorylass · 18/04/2023 19:03

My grandson had a very similar scar but a bit lower down. He's 10 now and although it's still there, you'd need a microscope to see it. No-one has ever commented on it as far as I know.

Jabiru · 18/04/2023 19:04

I’m going to go against the grain.

DD had similar at 18 months, she’s 14 now and it’s still the same.

nobody notices it and she’s quite image concious - even she has literally never mentioned it

Watto1 · 18/04/2023 19:06

Dd had a similar one just above her eyebrow. You have to look very closely to see it now (10 years later).

bluebird3 · 18/04/2023 19:08

I have a mark like this on my face. Always wondered where I got it - now wondering if it was chicken pox! I had them quite bad when I was 3. It's never been something I've been self conscious of or anything anyone has ever noticed. It is less noticeable as it's not red at all.

Hoppingmad231 · 18/04/2023 19:13

This time last year my dd had them was left with 3 bad scars I thought she would have them forever can barely see them now they do improve.

hookpan · 18/04/2023 19:15

Thank you everyone for your reassurance ❤️

My ds had chicken pox 8 years ago. Bad case and had a LOT of very bad spots, many of which left scars.

Things do improve with time. For my ds there are still silvery ones on his body and a few craters on nose and around eyebrows. But they are not a nourishes as they once were.

I understand the sadness, I really do. But none of us reaches adulthood with perfect, unblemished skin! We pick up marks along the way whether internal, external or both and they tell our story.

LaChatte · 18/04/2023 19:19

I'm in my 40's, I have an almost identical scar to the one in the photo (well it was that size as a child). It's still there, but it's really never bothered me, it looks worse as he's still got beautiful baby skin, dont worry, that doesn't last 😂

hookpan · 19/05/2023 16:03

My sons scar has now started to form tiny pimples across it? See attached. It's been like that for a couple of weeks 😖 They're more noticeable in real life, hard to capture on camera! Anyone know what they may be?

So I had 3 large marks like this. I had chicken pox when I was 10 and was really poorly. I am 32 now and can barely see the scars and nobody ever makes comments as virtually gone! X

hookpan · 19/05/2023 21:10

Thanks @Tinkyrinkyrinky that is reassuring. Where they concave marks? As that's the main thing I'm worried about. In direct sunlight it looks huge bless him 😫

My DD 17 months has one exactly the same! But it’s from tripping over in the driveway. I’m devastated. Currently 4 months since injury and we are trying Mebo repair cream and a quick (has to be or tantrum) massage twice a day. So far it hasn’t gotten any more shallow. I’m sunblocking it in mornings. I feel like a crazy person because I fixate on it so much but I want to help her, it’s kind of my fault. I’m hoping time is a healer as she has lots of growing to do yet. Following your progress.

hookpan · 26/05/2023 13:11

@Aljay91 persevere with the scar cream and massage. I compared a couple of photos from at the beginning and now and it has changed and I think it's less deep now, marginally.

I think your DD's age is on her side, being so little she has lots of time for the skin to regenerate and heal. Lots of love to you. I know how you feel, it's really hard to not fixate and worry about it 😫 xxx

hookpan · 26/05/2023 13:12

Also I need to remember to put sun cream on it, I've not done that yet 😖

LilyPad150 · 06/07/2023 22:03

Any progress OP? My DD has four smaller but similar marks on her head from chicken pox a month ago 😫

YukoandHiro · 06/07/2023 22:04

It will fade. My daughter had four or five pocks on her forehead. 18 months later they've all disappeared

midnightblue12 · 06/07/2023 22:48

I have a chicken pox scar on my head. It will heal. I've never done anything extraordinary with mine and over time it's just faded. Don't get me wrong I'm 32 and it's still there 🙈 but nobody would notice it other then me and I guess it's just part of my face 🙈

hookpan · 07/07/2023 06:21

It's definitely improved @LilyPad150 - it's less concave and more smoothed out. The colour is less angry too. Recommend the silicone gel and also remember to use spf. I'll try and get a pic to post soon
