Leaking nappies!

Hi all, my 11 month old has just woken up for what must be the 10th night on the trot soaking wet from nappy leakage. He's just over 9kg, have used pampers 4, 4+ and pull ups but everything leaks. He still wakes up around 3 times a night and only way back to sleep is feed on boob.
My washing machine is hating me!
He's moving around in his cot a lot more now and does have a habit of lying on his side when sleeping which doesn't help.
Any advice?

try size 5. I know his weight may not indicate that he is ready but we had the same issue went from 3-4’s and the leaking stopped and my little boy is way under the weight guidance for 4’s

Glitterstars · 15/04/2023 02:57

or it may be because he is feeding 3 times a night so change him before you feed him. Mine wakes up once a night to feed and by the morning his nappy is full ready to burst I think so if he fed more I would have to change him I think

MyopicBunny · 15/04/2023 03:16

Have you tried Dry Nites in the smallest size? They are the only ones that don't leak over night for me.

Try fastening the nappy low-is (under belly button, and leaving a 'pouch' of sorts between the legs. Worked a treat for us, no more leaks and our is also very active during sleep too.

BlackBarbies · 15/04/2023 04:38

You’ve just said that he wakes 3 times a night and goes on the boob each time. You need to change his nappy at least once during the night to avoid any leaks?

It’s clear that the nappy can’t hold all of the wee that he’s doing because of the milk that he’s having though the night

HAF1119 · 15/04/2023 04:53

I assume you're changing before each feed when wakes, it doesn't say so not certain.

Trial and error mostly with the nappies if you are. Try a few different brands and sizes. When ours was having no night feeds so a full night nappy we did 2 - one nappy done up under belly and one pants (both Aldi). But it is mostly just trying and seeing what works for you

Flittingaboutagain · 15/04/2023 05:40

I have to change mine (reusables) once in the night because of being a heavy wetter.

This. Size up for nights.

Caspianberg · 15/04/2023 06:02

Reusable. Tots bots bamboozle with extra bamboo insert. My Ds around the same age would still feed 3-5 times overnight, no leaks although nappy was full.

We used reusables in the day but never found any combo that worked overnight except sizing up a disposable. 🙈

MistyFrequencies · 15/04/2023 11:11

If he wears a vest with domes between legs, size that up. My kids always leaked with those because the vest kind of compressed the nappy.

TheBirdintheCave · 15/04/2023 11:14

@Teapleasemilknosugar Our go to was an Easy Peasy Bumble stuffed with three hemp boosters and one cotton booster all inside a Motherease Airflow wrap 👌🏻 Bombproof.

There are some good overnight ones Ella's bum huggers, bamboozles, little lamb or bambino mios supremes. All are slower drying but good overnight.

OP my DS2 is a heavy wetter overnight the only thing we found worked was either a reusable overnight (bambino mio supreme) or a disposable with a reusable waterproof wrap over the top.

Pahpahpotato · 15/04/2023 11:18

Size up on nappies, size up on vests/babygrows. That’s what I’d try first, altho my son is now in a 6+ nappy with a 7 pull up over the top overnight to prevent leaks 🤣 he’s much older, he doesn’t wake in the night and has only a little milk before bed now, but the leaking was still a bit of a problem before we double layered!

Teapleasemilknosugar · 15/04/2023 11:24

@TheBirdintheCave I could never get my hand on any motherease airflows wherever I looked, always sold out or not available or on a wait list! Did love the motherease Unos for day time though with bamboo boosters.

@Scottishskifun didn't get on with any of those ones either!

The only reusable thing we didn't try at njght was a wool wrap like a Disana.

Might have another bash at night nappies for Baby2.

Caspianberg · 15/04/2023 12:08

@Teapleasemilknosugar - Try extra inserts inside night reusable.
we used tots bots easyfit daytime as so practical and thinner, but the tots bamboozle at night. I think we had a few weeks when I added 2 extra bamboo inserts overnight ( prob 7-8 months when he must have drank the most but not eating many solids), then gradually 1 extra was fine, then no extras as he decreased breastfeeding amount after 1 ish.

The only time we ever had might leaks was when we didn’t take the night nappies aboard and used pampers disposables for a week. Think we had 3 night leaks then! So wouldn’t recommend those. The lilydoo disposables we used second week had less leaks.

rfr · 15/04/2023 14:01

If you would prefer to use disposables, you can use a reusable wrap over a disposable nappy. We do fully reusable and use totsbots bamboozles with a Motherease airflow wrap, however, I hem I've needed to use disposables (e.g. after jabs) and e use the wrap over a disposable nappy as we've always suffered from leaky disposables! X

Teapleasemilknosugar · 15/04/2023 14:13

@Caspianberg yeah we did try boosters, had 2 bamboo wrapped in 1 hemp booster at one point and still got leaks at night!
We also found Pampers awful for leaks. Cheapo Tesco own brand disposables however didn't leak so we stuck with them for nights and carried on with reuseables in the day until we potty trained.

But thank you!

Teapleasemilknosugar · 15/04/2023 14:14

@NorthDevonBeachLover sorry for unintentionally derailing your thread with reuseable night nappy chat! 🙈

NorthDevonBeachLover · 15/04/2023 18:45

Thanks all, lots of awesome advice. His nappy doesn't even seem full when he leaks, a friend suggested putting normal nappy on and then pull up over the top too so will try that tonight.
The good thing is that he only woke up twice last night instead of 3-4 times! Taking the small wins 😬

Get rascal and friends from Tesco. My wee one would leak with every other nappy. These are fab

NorthDevonBeachLover · 16/04/2023 04:15

Two nappies not working, he's only woken up twice tonight but have had to do a full change as wet vest and babygro but just left side which is where he rolls onto and the nappy isn't full.

Teapleasemilknosugar · 16/04/2023 06:23

@NorthDevonBeachLover try the next size up.

halfshutknife · 16/04/2023 08:18

I think boys are renowned for it. Only the front of my sons nappy is full.
We size up, don't use a vest with poppers as that restricts the nappy and use pants. Still Russian roulette though 🤦🏼‍♀️

Notfeelinglikemyselftoday · 28/04/2023 07:40

Any luck yet @NorthDevonBeachLover? Exact same situation here with my 9kg boy. Slowly losing my mind!
