I only bath my toddler once a week - am I the only one?

I mean, obviously I wash him every day, but he only gets to go in the bath and have his hair washed once a week or so. Unless something hugely messy happens.

I just don't think he needs it any more than that but everyone I know seems to do it every day. I partly just wouldn't be bothered but is it good for their skin washing them all over with soap every day?

oh i am slovenly, dd gets bathed twice a week sometimes three and ds gets bath with her. this is unless we have an incident and i always find it increase A LOT in the summer as she is playing outside

Dropdeadfred · 08/02/2008 15:09

how often do you lot change their bedding if they are not bathed every night?

Weekly.

Joash · 08/02/2008 15:14

twice weekly here - more in the summer.

Brangelina · 08/02/2008 15:15

Once a week unless she wets the bed. A 2yo doesn't smell, doesn't have rancid sweat (not like a teenager's, anyway) and doesn't have greasy hair. My neighbour bathes hers every other day and doesn't smell any better or any worse than my DD

sweetkitty · 08/02/2008 15:16

Bedding changed weekly.

Washing hair every day strips it of it's natural oils which are needed to keep it healthy. I shower every day but only wash my hair every second day.

DD2 has ezcema and water makes it flare up even more hence she only has 3 baths a week unless necessary paint etc in hair.

Joash · 08/02/2008 15:17

He's five now and I never wash his face (unless he is in the bath) - we still use baby wipes for his face. We did stop buying them at one point and started to use soap and water - he came out in rashes and spots that we couldnt seem to get rid of. Went back to using baby wipes, and his skin cleared up in two days - so we still buy thm.

TheMaskedPoster · 08/02/2008 15:18

Every day as part of her bedtime routine ... however saying that, sometimes she decides she doesn't want one, so she doesn't have one.

Brangelina · 08/02/2008 15:19

Joash - have you tried using cotton wool and water with a drop of almond/olive/calendual oil?

hypermum · 08/02/2008 15:20

I bath the children every day, and when they're done I throw in the pram wheels too. I just can't stand the dirt.

Joash · 08/02/2008 15:23

Brangelina - no I never thought of that, good tip though. I will try it. Thanks

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 08/02/2008 15:34

5 kids all bathed every day!

kids need to smell like fresh laundry for me to love them!!!

Wendyjayb · 08/02/2008 15:34

My ds is 2.2 and has a bath once a week and gets in the shower with me every other night. He stands in the dry bit and i wash him as he won't get under and when he's done dh gets his jammies on
I was bathing him every night but he used to have horrendous ezcema and it made his skin really dry

Snippety · 08/02/2008 15:42

I give DS (7 months) a good wipeover every day, but only goes in the bath with me once a week. Sleeps in our bed and we change bedding every week (or so ). Has clean clothes every day and doesn't smell (except lovely). When can you take them in the shower ? I'd probably do that more but I'm worried it'd scare him. We have a self contained shower, not one over the bath. Should I wait until he can stand in there with me ?

Baffy · 08/02/2008 16:04

Snippety I'd wait until he can stand in there with you.

my ds (2.5) used to be quite scared of the shower, but now he'll just about come in. I have to I have towels ready and he just gets himself out when he's had enough or when it gets "too noisy and splashy mummy"

IndigoMoon · 08/02/2008 16:08

bedding changed here every one-two weeks to be totally honest. i would like to do it weekly but forget etc but it never goes over two.

dosydot · 08/02/2008 16:11

DC have popped into the shower with us sine they were a couple of months old, It semed easier than bathing thm separately now they go in by themselves- cubicle with bath mat on the floor( DD 3 DS nearly2)
We use the bath for play as much as washing tbh
bedclothes weekly unless accidents occur

shala · 09/02/2008 19:19

I used to bath my son every night as part of bedtime routine, but now I've got 2, they have a bath & hairwash once a week. Anyway, there are always nit epidemics at school and nits are attracted to clean hair!

evelynrose · 09/02/2008 20:00

Every day except Fridays because they go swimming and then I give them a bath on Saturday after football. Hair wash every Sunday evening.

lucykate · 09/02/2008 20:05

mine do get bathed every day, they tend to get pretty mucky, plus dd has strong smelly wee sometimes so if she doesn't have a good wash, she will get sore. it is generally a quick dip in shallow water, but it works for us to keep to the same bedtime routine every night

Alishanty · 09/02/2008 22:21

I bathe my toddler every other day or less if I'm busy. I don't think it's good for the skin to be washing it every day and I can't be bothered.
