Please help me cope tonight I can’t do this anymore

I am at my wits end. three month old baby’s dad left when she was 2 weeks old, heard absolutely nothing and so I am completely alone. She was fine for the first three months up until last week when she just will NOT sleep more than two hours and even that seems to be getting shorter. She’s slept for max 45 mins today in three short bursts.

I am dreading tonight. I can’t cope. I am resentful with my ex which isn’t helping and I don’t understand where this sudden inability to sleep has come from.

I’ve used infacol as thought it could be colic due to the crying, week later no change.

ive fed on demand as I usually do, with extra offering right before I go to bed at 11:30.

ive made sure the room is warm enough.

ive kept it dark.

she’s not got a temperature and doesn’t need nappy changing.

I don’t know what to do anymore. There’s nobody else to help either. Right now she’s just mildly crying in the cot next to the bed, when I pick her up she will have a tiny bit of milk but not really be interested in it. So she’s not really hungry.

i can’t do this anymore

So… Slept 11-2 and then 2:45 to 6:30 and 8-9.

I used Calpol at half ten last night, could that really be it?!

Thanks SO much for the responses, feel less tired today

Fab to hear you had a better night 😘 sometimes it's the simple things.

Just remember you have this

Bunce1 · 23/01/2023 16:16

It’s ok to give Calpol! You’ve done so well.

hope tonight is better again.

Please do not co sleep. It truly is unsafe. A next to me cot is the best and safest option.
But you can leave your baby to cry once you are sure they are clean/dry/fed/winded. You can put them in the cot and go away from them. Honestly it's ok.

Millions of parents would disagree with you.

Co sleeping is not unsafe when done safely! Not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, non smoker. No risk of rolling off.

Stop scaring her. We co sleep following the safe 7. We're ok 9 months here. It was the only way she'd sleep. People like you caused my depression! Let her parent her baby how she sees fit

MissMarpleRocks · 26/01/2023 18:07

How are you getting on?

Agree! It’s not safe to be exhausted in charge of a baby either. My mother dropped my younger sister changing her in the middle of the night because she was so exhausted. If you plan to go sleep and you follow the guidelines it’s much safer than ending up accidentally falling asleep or dropping them because you’re so tired

Is it ok to use calpol every night?

the only teething sign is the fist in mouth and dribble but they’re just 3 months?!

I think she would benefit from a routine.

Look up "wake times" and "routine for three months old".

It will also give you a better idea of how the day is going to look like.

And a bit of crying is 100% ok, especially if you're in your own, for your sanity.
If you're doing something like cooking and she starts kicking off, it's ok to take a few minutes to finish. Don't panic, tell her you're coming. Babies cry and you're not doing anything wrong.

@Arghhh111 after reading comments on here I gave Calpol to my 5m old yesterday at 11pm and he slept straight for 4 hours which has not happened since he was 3 months old. And again woke up only twice. But surely can't give Calpol everyday? What have you been doing?

Thanks to everyone who suggested Calpol. It could be teething I guess but can we really give Calpol everyday? I had such a different night yesterday and felt so well rested all day today. And here I am at 5.40am with DC in my lap trying to put to sleep.

What about ashton powder etc? I used them a lot with my DD but was never really sure they did much.
