My baby has had temp since 2 days and has antibiotics I have just changed his nappy and his private part seems a bit swollen he is circumcised so around his foreskin it’s a red and looks swollen. Anyone had this issue before? Do I need to speak to doctors? It’s the weekend now and holidays so don’t know what to do

Yes, I think you should see the doctor today. When was the circumcision - was it recent?

DailyEnergyCrisis · 23/12/2022 14:41

It’s probably nothing to worry about but yes you need to have a doctor review him- the combination of a temperature and the redness/swelling could be caused by an infection of the soft tissue.

You should get this checked asap.

Ring 111. You might spend a long time on hold but better than nothing.

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 14:41

@Namenic
he had the circumcison when he was born and he’s now 2 and a half so not recent

It’s Friday- your gp surgery should be open so call them.

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 14:42

I am going to call 111 and see what they say x

Actually - I’d be tempted to take him to minor injuries or even A&E rather than call 111. If he has an infection, it needs treating asap.

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 14:44

@SilverGlassHare

hes already on antibiotics though I am on hold with 111 and see what they say

He might need stronger antibiotics or different ones… it’s good that you’ve called 111 but if they don’t get back to you reasonably quickly, or if his condition deteriorates, take him to a&e or a walk in centre if there’s one nearby. Hope someone sees him quickly and he feels better soon x

DailyEnergyCrisis · 23/12/2022 14:47

Antibiotics aren’t all equal- unless he was prescribed them for a soft tissue infection they may not treat it properly- if at all.

SilverGlassHare · 23/12/2022 14:50

Also, if you have any savlon, it wouldn’t hurt to put a dab on the end. It’s antiseptic (though not antibiotic), it won’t hurt him or do any harm while you wait to see someone.

Namenic · 23/12/2022 14:53

even if he is on antibiotics, he may need to be on stronger ones. There are rare skin infections that can spread quickly so he does need to be seen today - it is a sensitive area.

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 14:55

I am waiting for 111 hopefully they might be able to ge take an appointment of not then I will go walk in centre

OP posts:
NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 15:36

Spoke to 111 they gave him an appointment for 8.15pm phone consultation and may call him in if he needs to seen

Namenic · 23/12/2022 15:46

That’s good that you will get to talk to a clinician. it is good that you won’t need to queue with him for hours in a&e.

But remember - if he worsens or you get worried (eg he becomes lethargic or the redness and swelling spreads), then take him to a&e. I hope he recovers soon - wishing you all the best!

Lividity · 23/12/2022 15:48

Mine had this but without the temperature.

They gave us Canesten and it cleared up really quickly.

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 15:50

@Namenic
thank you at the moment he is fine but will keep an eye out x

FannyFifer · 23/12/2022 15:50

Prob a bit of thrush from the antibiotics which is quite common

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 15:51

@Lividity
ye hasn’t had the temp since morning he’s had the temp I think due to the infection. Hopefully his will clear quickly too x

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 15:53

SilverGlassHare · 23/12/2022 16:59

Ah yes that would make sense! Do you have any canesten you could try on him, OP? Check the leaflet to make sure it’s ok for children.

Thedaysthatremain · 23/12/2022 17:05

You are allowed to say penis

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 17:08

@SilverGlassHare

OP posts:
SilverGlassHare · 23/12/2022 17:24

@NishaaS123 You’re probably right - maybe better not to daub him with all and sundry!
