My baby has had temp since 2 days and has antibiotics I have just changed his nappy and his private part seems a bit swollen he is circumcised so around his foreskin it’s a red and looks swollen. Anyone had this issue before? Do I need to speak to doctors? It’s the weekend now and holidays so don’t know what to do

Actually - I’d be tempted to take him to minor injuries or even A&E rather than call 111. If he has an infection, it needs treating asap.

This is exactly why A&E are on their knees. Completely inappropriate place to be. Neither an accident or emergency.

No, A&E are on their knees due to continuous massive underfunding.

You can say penis, you know 😂

Get it looked at asap. Balanitis or phimosis is no joke.

If her son has cellulitis in the skin of his penis, it’s absolutely an emergency.

I'm a paediatric nurse and GP is more appropriate in the first instance.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/12/2022 18:29

Especially as he's already on antibiotics.

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 18:48

@Toddlerteaplease

yes that’s what I thought aswell, waiting for a gp call at 8pm fingers crossed alls well

I'm a paediatric nurse and GP is more appropriate in the first instance.

It’s evening of the 23rd December. GPS won’t be open until Tuesday at the earliest. But sure, GP is more appropriate if the little boy’s condition starts deteriorating.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/12/2022 19:02

There are still out of hours GP's and 111 to signpost to the right place.

SilverGlassHare · 23/12/2022 19:11

Yes, and I first suggested 111, then said if it seems more serious and you have to wait ages or if he’s deteriorating, taking further steps to get seen quickly would be appropriate. I’m a doctor who works in paediatrics and I wouldn’t object to seeing a little boy with a fever and swollen penis if his parents were concerned his condition is getting worse. Especially if he’s been in antibiotics for two days without improvement.

NishaaS123 · 23/12/2022 19:21

NHS 111 booked me with a nurse by accident and they called and said they won’t be able to help so I have to call 111 again to ask them to book me with GP. So frustrating

That's ridiculous! And very annoying!

Hope you guys are home and your little boy has been seen and treated now @NishaaS123

NishaaS123 · 24/12/2022 09:20

@SilverGlassHare had to bring him back as it was so so busy trying to call 111 now hoping to get a gp appointment 🤞

OP posts:
SilverGlassHare · 24/12/2022 12:38

Oh dear. Has it got any worse since yesterday? On the plus side, if he hasn’t deteriorated at all, I’d say that implies it’s less concerning, though still could do with being seen before tomorrow.

NishaaS123 · 24/12/2022 12:46

@SilverGlassHare
it hasn’t gotten worse thankfully but waiting in AE now still neee it checked to be sure. 😩 hoping for a good Christmas

I am waiting for 111 hopefully they might be able to ge take an appointment of not then I will go walk in centre

When you talk to them you're allowed to say "penis" instead of "private part" 😊
