Why do people have these? What purpose do they serve?

I see loads of people with them in the middle of their rear windscreen, blocking their rear view!

again!

I agree with custardo.

DP is fireman and so goes to lots of car crashes. He says (re: emergency services looking harder for kids if there's a sign) 'of course its bollox we are too busy looking for loose change'.

scampadoodle · 30/01/2008 20:21

Slightly off the OP, but there's a motorcyclist goes down my road frequently & on his luminous jacket he's had printed "If you can read this, the bitch fell off" Now, I know it's horribly un-PC, & I'd probably hate the bloke if I met him, but it makes me chuckle...

Baby on Board stickers are a bit naff aren't they? I wouldn't have one. I'd like to see stickers that say: 'My period is in XX days' Perhaps with an adjustable spinning dial like Unigate Dairies used to give their valued customers.

mummynumnum · 30/01/2008 21:19

My sis is a HV (a v good one) and she says they are useful for emergency services if there is an accident. Know to look for babay.

Bouncingturtle · 30/01/2008 21:28

No they are not. Because people don't take them out when there is NO baby on board - if the emergency services checked just on the basis of a sign, then they could be wasting valuable time.
And every car driver should treat everyone else with courtesy regardless of children in the car or not.
I would much rather have my rear view uncluttered. Hence why I don't have one.

kekouan · 01/02/2008 10:13

I really don't understand why people get so upset about these signs. It definitely made a difference to people tailgating - I noticed a marked difference once i'd put the sign in.

baby's life more precious? Well.. difficult argument that one, but if it's dark and the emergency services haven't noticed a dark child seat in the back of a car, then the sign might help - not goin to hurt, is it??

Baby's are a little more fragile than full grown adults too... so the argument about one life being more important than another is rubbish...

I'm not arguing my point very well, I know (sorry).

I just know get why these upset people as much as they do. I'd rather have one in my car to try and discourage people tailgating (which it seems ot do) and be called a cunt than not have one.,

Alishanty · 03/02/2008 10:21

I don't like them. As if it someone will think, ok actually I won't crash into you because you've got a baby on board! The worst one I have seen is Very Important Princess on board! LOL!

paddyclamp · 03/02/2008 12:15

They really don't bother me. But i did see one with yummy mummy on board!!!!!! Yuck!

teakettle · 03/02/2008 12:28

I think they are very useful. When I didn't have one dh had to constantly dangle his genitals out the window to remind strangers of his virility and skills at procreating. He is a much safer driver now that he can sit in the seat and reach the pedals.

FourPlusOne · 03/02/2008 12:45

I don't have one, but the people carrier and back seat full of child seats/dangly suck on toys on side window gives the game away here. Can see why they would be useful but like many hate the naff ones - 'princess on board, cheeky monkey on board etc'. But then I hate any naff stickers on back windscreens whether they are related to babies or not. Saw one the other day on a car in front of me - children not strapped in and leaping around the back seat

MicrowaveOnly · 03/02/2008 13:08

No one pointed out the obvious answr to this...

They're a money making pointless piece of plastic, like a lot of childrens/babies products.

Did you know you can get nipple sterilisers to protect baby, FGS?

we're all wrapped up in the loveliness of our kids (and they are!) we're born suckers!!

3andnomore · 04/02/2008 12:11

nipple steriliser...really....rofl....who in their right mind would buy that?

Bouncingturtle · 04/02/2008 16:15

Nipple sterlisers.... OMG where can I buy them!! Don't want the PFB getting my booby germs!
