Hello anyone that may read this
im really panicking
i came to Mykonos with my 6m old baby boy and brought what I thought was more than enough milk (pre made aptamil in the bottles) with me. How ever we are here until Monday evening and my boy is on a one man mission to drink all the milk. He has consumed way more than usual and we now won’t have enough.
no where on the island has anything other than powder formula which he won’t drink

does anyone have any suggestions ?
or my some miracle is anyone travelling to Mykonos before Monday and able to bring some baby milks? (Paid for of course)

thanks for any advice or help
Julia xx

Could you mix ready made formula with the the made up powder formula ?

mobear · 14/10/2022 17:17

I was in the same situation as you but in Halkidiki. We looked everywhere for pre-mixed formula but couldn’t find it. A pharmacy said they could order it in but it wouldn’t have arrived until after we left. He wouldn’t drink the powdered formula I bought, but he would drink cows milk. It wasn’t ideal but it got us through the few days we were short - I don’t know if that would be an option with a 6 month old though?

Do you have a holiday rep? Maybe they could help with sourcing some from a Uk airport to bring over on a flight? Or the idea or mixing the powdered with the ready made to make it go further is a good shout - how many feeds are you short?

Ask hotel if there's anywhere you can order online and get it delivered? Nightmare!

Juliall · 14/10/2022 19:43

I feel so stupid for not bringing more. I thought I had loads spare! Must be the sunshine making him hungry. I could give that a go maybe, how old was your baby at the time?
I am giving hIm some purées too so could try and fill him up that way too I guess …

Thank you for your replies I am thinking I’ll try mixing powder with the pre made first (maybe he won’t notice- should I maybe start 50/50 or 25/75 mix?) then try the cows milk as a back up plan.
im only short by 3/4 feeds but having intrusive thoughts of the flight being delayed and having nothing left 😂
the hotel have been good at trying to find some but no luck there and we don’t have a rep 😅

I think personally I'd rather leave early than give cow's milk! I thought babies under 1 aren't meant to have it.

Dsisproblem · 14/10/2022 19:56

They're not meant to have cows milk as their normal milk permanently, but as a one off for a day or two it would be fine I think

BendingSpoons · 14/10/2022 19:59

Cows milk doesn't have the right vitamins and things in as a main food source. In a 6m baby that is weaning, a bit is ok. Depends if he will drink it though.

cliffdiver · 14/10/2022 20:00

Are you giving him enough water?

No advice re sourcing any milk though, sorry. I hope you find a solution.

Juliall · 14/10/2022 20:05

You’re right about the cows milk, not until he’s one! Thanks.
I give him an ounce of water once a day when he has food, I think this is probably enough for his age based on what I’ve read?
my plan is to mix powdered feed And the pre made feed I already have to make more xxx

They can have cows milk before one, you just can't switch all formula feeds to cows milk. If he'll drink it it willbe ok for a couple of days, maybealternate each formula bottle.

houseofboy · 14/10/2022 20:40

I would be offering more water. You don't need to limit it I never looked at how much water mine had after 6 months. I suspect it's the heat making them hungry

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/10/2022 20:43

At 6 months I’d definitely try water. Boiled and cooled.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 14/10/2022 20:45

I'd go heavily on the milk based cereals. So Wheetabix or porridge if you can get it. Both can be made with cows milk and will help fill the baby up. Obvs don't push them hard forever, as as a PP has said cows milk doesn't have the right vitamins etc in it for a baby that young

declutteringmymind · 14/10/2022 20:47

He is probably thirsty. Maybe up his cucumber and grape intake for extra fluids and see if that helps.

NashvilleQueen · 14/10/2022 20:51

Can you get it delivered to your hotel? Amazon??

Undertheoldlindentree · 14/10/2022 20:52

I never limited cooled boiled water, would just offer that between normal feeds.

Ilovetocrochet · 14/10/2022 20:53

Is the heat making him thirsty? I always increased my children's water intake when on holiday.

GordonShakespearedoesChristmas · 14/10/2022 20:54

Do remember that when your generation were babies it was 6 months for cows' milk! I think the generations all survived. So I would not worry for a couple of days 😊😊

MrsTuxedo · 14/10/2022 20:57

Have you tried Amazon and checked if express delivery is an option?

Or any other pre-made brands you can find?

Vanillazebra · 14/10/2022 21:00

mobear · 14/10/2022 21:59

@Juliall He was 9 months at the time. He also ate a lot of yoghurt. Good luck! 😊

mobear · 14/10/2022 22:01

(He is nearly two now and it did him no harm!).

MGee123 · 14/10/2022 22:19

A few days of cows milk won't do him any harm. You just shouldn't swap them to it permanently at his age.
