hmmm sorry but you;ll be jealous of me too. ds1 is nearly 3 now, but has always slept from about 7ish til 8am, at the moment it's 9!!!

have you tried cutting out the nap completely?

ragetty · 12/01/2008 21:27

ds1 is 2.7yo

before he dropped his nap completely he wold only manage 10ish hrs a night

now it's between 11 and 13

hurrah

(shame ds2 is a baaad sleeper)

beansprout · 12/01/2008 21:29

if you add her 1 hr at nursery to the 10 at home she's getting 11 which sounds ok - my 3yr twins vary - 7 - 7 with no nap, but that's only an hour more than your dd and it would be less if they had a nap. my ds1 is 5 and has 11 hrs - never more and often got up at 5.30 when he was 2, but he napped still at that age.
the only thing i can suggest is lots of exercise- my 3 have been on 2 walks and in the garden today, but they've never all managed past 7 - we live in hope!

Easywriter · 12/01/2008 21:40

Oh!

Oh!

I remember the answer to this one.
Not as many hours as you think or want them to (unless you're a jammy one!)

Hang in there they do sleep longer but in my experience you have to coax them a bit).

DD (2.9) sleeps 8pm - 8am and still manages an hour or so in the afternoon. She wasn't always a good sleeper though.

bubblagirl · 13/01/2008 11:09

my ds is 2.7 and will go to slepp in his bed no worries but wakes regualy

we now have ready bed next to ours once in that he'll go all night

we do story time before bed in bed and it helps settle him and un wind and we have soft play to relax half hour before bed

i'm waiting for his single bed to arrive and then i will be doing the stay in own bed technique

consistency is the key and you said i gave up so she knows how long to keep going on before you give in

read story say goodnight sleep time and keep putting her back

i had sleep therapist out to help and did work until ds had nightmare also was seeing her for speech so we decided to concentrate on that first you do need to be consistant

may take few nights of putting back few times but it'll work
no talking though just keep putting back to bed

it'll be worth the sacrifice

bubblagirl · 13/01/2008 11:10

my ds will go down about 6 his choice and aprt from the few waking times he has no getting up and running round though he'll sleep till 5-6 sometimes later

maisiedaisy · 13/01/2008 11:32

My DD is 2.8
She has just dropped her afternoon nap and sleeps 7 till 9ish.
She has a story in bed then shouts us in the morning before getting out of bed.

TheMNPeacekeepingForce · 13/01/2008 12:13

12 hours ish and 1.5 at lunchtime. He is lazy!

hunkermunker · 13/01/2008 12:14

Is she definitely only sleeping an hour or less at nursery?

Dropdeadfred · 13/01/2008 12:20

12-13 hours a night and hasn't had a daytime nap since she was about 19 months old.

I would drop the nap, she needs to be more tired in the evenings.

PS I do think if you WANT her to go to bed then keep to your word otherwise she knows what buttons to press to get allowed back up again. Confusing messgaes for a 2 yr old.

SpacePuppy · 13/01/2008 12:25

ds sleeps 8-6:30 and 2.5 hours in a/noon.

Hillbilly · 13/01/2008 14:44

DD 2.7 sleeps 7.30-6.30 at night and has a 2 hr lunchtime nap, but I realise I am probably on borrowed time and the nap may not last much longer!

IdrisTheDragon · 13/01/2008 14:47

DD is 2.3 and finally seems to be sleeping through the night.

Last night she slept from 7:30pm until 8:30am, but more usually about 7-7:30pm until 6:30-7:30am.

She hasn't had a daytime nap (unless ill) for months.

stinkymalinki · 13/01/2008 14:49

DS (2.4) sleeps 7.30pm-8am most of the time (goes to pot when he's ill though!), and up until recently also had a 2 hr nap in the afternoon but is beginning to grow out of that and often only sleeps for 45 mins or so now or not at all, but he still goes up to his room for a some quiet time (and to give me an hour's peace)

bambam30 · 13/01/2008 15:42

i have just read this and am green with my lo 2.4 and is currently goin to bed any time between 7 and 8 but wakes regularly and asks to go down and for the past few mornings he has actually woken in the morning at 4or 5 rather than his usual 6 and if he has a nap in the day it seems to make no difference to his night sleeping ihave just resigned myself that i will be permanently tired til he teenager !!!!!!!

I am always astounded at the number of toddlers in bed by 7. Dd is 2.5 and we aim for 8 on a good day - but increasingly it is 8.30 or later. It does make it difficult to get much done in the evening. She gets up 6.30-7 and naps about half the time - it's a bit unpredictable at the moment.

Viggoswife · 13/01/2008 17:10

DD is in bed by 8 and usually sings and plays for 20 minutes before falling asleep and then wakes between 7.30 and 8 am. Was not always like this though. She was a terrible sleep until about 13 months. She is 16 months now. I never left them to cry or did controlled crying but with both DC was pretty ruthless about Bed meaning Bed and NO getting up at all unless ill or really upset. Both excellent sleepers now.

Walnutshell · 13/01/2008 17:11

DS can be down by 7pm but will consistently wake at 5.30-5.50am... Even going to bed later has zero effect. Can usually persuade him to stay in bed for another 45 mins - but it's usually our bed so not much rest to be had there. Still has 1.5-2 hour afternoon nap though and on reflection I think I prefer it that way. Wouldn't complain about him holding out until 6.30am though - wow, lie-in.

Walnutshell · 13/01/2008 17:12

Acinonyx - I have to get him to bed 7-7.30 LATEST most nights in order to give me an evening and regain some sanity!

lulumama · 13/01/2008 17:12

DD is 2.5, goes to sleep at 7.00 - 7.30 and awake anytime between 5.30 and 6.30 . She sleep s in the day, anywhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours......

Marne · 13/01/2008 17:14

dd2 sleeps 7am-6/7am, dd1 did'nt sleep through until 3.5 years.

nannyL · 13/01/2008 17:15

my charge is 2 years 4 months

he has a good 12+ hours at night

and 1.5 - 2 hours in bed during the day... often the 1st hour in bed is spent singing though!
