Horrific rash on face at nursery only

Doctor tomorrow but just looking for ideas.

Dd3. No allergies. Four times now has come home from nursery absolutely scarlet on face. First time sent home with slapped cheek, doctor confirmed, then has happened another four times, sent home today as so bad.

Never happened at home. Ever. Same suncream both places. I supply and apply it.

No different food, no rash or redness anywhere except face. Exactly like sunburn, or slapped cheek.

Sometimes also above eyebrows red.

Not unwell, temp fine but cheeks I could cook an egg on. Cool flannel, sudocream and 48 hours she recovers.

We are farmers so she's outside all day, brown hair, medium fair skin.

Any ideas?

No wipes being used, nothing. Staff as stumped as I am!

Does she have a nap at nursery where she rests her face on a cushion, mat or pillow?

Solasum · 19/05/2022 21:54

Highly scented cleaning product/room scent:
perfume/other product of a part-time teacher?

sheepandcaravan · 19/05/2022 21:54

No, never.

Happened to my youngest, they were using wipes.

Tiny nursery, 9 if all in, rare. Two staff. Only happens when a nice day, rural Scotland so rare...

She's in max two mornings a week, no real pattern other than a little sun. But she's been out in sun all day here and fine

Are they washing her face with a flannel. Is she washing her own face with soap and paper towels in the bathroom?

ComDummings · 19/05/2022 21:56

Are they wiping her face after lunch? My kids nursery used to use a flannel for each child and wipe them. I assume maybe just water but could also have used soap?

sheepandcaravan · 19/05/2022 21:57

after second time nobody touches her face. I go at lunch and sort cream if she needs it, or yesterday bring her home as so so bad. By tonight much calmer.

Well it is an allergy of some sort. I second the cleaning product as the likely culprit. They have to use pretty strong disinfectants in nurseries and they spray everything down. It’s literally misted in the entire room on all the toys, surfaces, floor, everything. She’s then touching surfaces with her hands and then her face. Hands usually are tougher and don’t react as much as faces do to allergens.

glasshalfsomething · 19/05/2022 22:00

Sounds silly, but are all her teeth in?

hamsaladsandwichh · 19/05/2022 22:00

Ask them if they use anything on the furniture they she could be lying on, fabric fresheners etc.

Then I'd ask them to keep a diary of what she eats, whether she gets food on her face and needs cleaning, specifically what time the rash appears, and try to narrow down any triggers.

And ask they they only use what you send in her bag on her skin and include whatever wipes/facecloth you use at home.

I wondered about sprays, cleaning etc but it's only warm days.

Diary done, nothing different to home, we thought pineapple for a week but nope, teeth all in,

Hoping this works

My sons friend has had this exact same looking rash on his face this week. The pharmacist said it was a heat rash and to use piriton to calm it down. It worked and went down very quickly.

sheepandcaravan · 19/05/2022 22:03

Could it be sweat and cream? So perhaps running more there? Although we are fairly active here.

windowstothesoul · 19/05/2022 22:03

Does she lie on the floor? Sleep Mat? Some sort of contact with an alleged? Apron staff member is wearing?

onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 19/05/2022 22:03

This is random but I was recently reading an article about a guy who had really bad skin flare ups in work, they eased over lockdown and then flared up again when he went back to the office. Turned out to be one of those air freshener things (you usually find them in toilets) that randomly sprays every few minutes or so and he was allergic to it. Could be something like that potentially!

ComDummings · 19/05/2022 22:04

Maybe it is just heat rash but because she’s at nursery she’s getting much hotter than at home as she’s much more active? At nursery they just do not stop and get more sweaty than at home. I second piriton for a week and see how that goes if you haven’t already tried it.

sheepandcaravan · 19/05/2022 22:05

Interesting ideas. I'm absolutely stumped. As are staff. See how we go tomorrow.

I did give piriton yesterday actually and it did ease it, but I still would like to know!

Do they use hand sanitiser? I react if I touch my face after using some brands.

MarthanotMarfa · 19/05/2022 22:06

With my son this was dehydration/heat. No one realised he wasn’t drinking enough and running around overdressed compared to home. Solved by a water bottle that had to all be drunk.

sheepandcaravan · 19/05/2022 22:06

Hand sanitizer I supply. Sorry I'm trying to keep up

Yes I wonder if heat but jeeps she was melting round lambing shed and fields in blazing sun and nothing here

sheepandcaravan · 19/05/2022 22:06

Water a good shout, haven't asked that

Sorry air freshener I wondered but again it's only certain days
