Beans egg and cheese

Is half a tin of beans, 1 scrambled egg and a small handful of grated cheese a good enough dinner for a 10 month old? Followed by half a banana and a big yogurt

Gosh, my 14 month old couldn’t even eat half of it.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 06/04/2022 17:00

That’s a lot of food!

And a lot of salt and sugar if the yogurt has sugar in it.

Im2022 · 06/04/2022 17:01

Not even my 8 and 14 year old could eat half a tin of beans…and the banana and yoghurt too? And he’s drinking milk? Way too much food.

At that age I would have done either beans and cheese or egg and cheese with fingers of toast.

In fact I'd probably not do the beans at all as we BLW and they would have gone everywhere, plus they are high in sugar and salt. And I'd do chunks of cheese that were easy to pick up.

CircusBaby · 06/04/2022 17:03

My 10 month old has a good appetite but he wouldn't eat that much, doubt the 2yo would either. That's quite a big meal!

Imissprosecco · 06/04/2022 17:03

My 2 year old would love that. He's just demolished half a jacket potato with cheese and beans. Be led by your chIld appetite. A 10 month old will let you know when they're full

Your 14 year old couldn't eat half a tin of beans? Hmm
Ohtheaudacity · 06/04/2022 17:05

Half a small tin of (the boring reduced salt and sugar) beans I should have said! I mushed it all up and spoon fed it. He ate about half of it. My DH says that’s a crap meal and he’ll be starving before bed and we should give him something else. I’m glad he’s wrong.

It's a good protein filled meal.

Idriveelectric · 06/04/2022 17:06

Err, where's the veg?

linerforlife · 06/04/2022 17:07

It's a big meal but at that age my DC wouldn't have got much in and most of it would have been smeared about Grin So I would have given half a banana say, knowing only probably a mouthful would have found it's way to the tummy! You can't exactly scramble half an egg can you, so I probably would have done one egg, a spoon of beans, pinch of cheese and then offered the banana after.

Baked beans have a lot of sugar in them.
Try the NHS website for age appropriate meals.

Err, where's the veg?
He had ratatouille at lunch so I didn’t stress too much. They say beans are 1 portion of your 5 a day and he also had fruit for afters.

Really? My 15 year old eats like a bird, and even he can manage a 200g tin of beans . . .

Thesearmsofmine · 06/04/2022 17:09

Err, where's the veg?
Beans count towards your 5 a day, as does the banana.

OP it’s fine. DP can sort his meal tomorrow.

Baked beans with toast are on the list of meal ideas for a “baby or young toddler”. Your point…?

A tin of beans in your house must be like the mumsnet chicken.
Tsuni · 06/04/2022 17:11

Sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh.

How very Mumsnet

...it's one meal. 🙄
BoobsOnTheMoon · 06/04/2022 17:12

Sorry OP that's a pretty good dinner tbh, especially if the other meals he's had today provided more fresh veg/fruit!

If the bairn isn't being forced/bribed/tricked to eat food, he'll self regulate, so it won't be "way too much" he'll eat until he's satisfied.

Grin

I just have visions now of the poster stood in her kitchen counting the number of beans on each plate then portioning up the rest for the rest of the week Grin

Tsuni · 06/04/2022 17:14

No need to be so fucking snarky.

NatriumChloride · 06/04/2022 17:14

So much unnecessary sanctimony on this thread! Comments like “Where’s the veg?” and people bemoaning salt and sugar in a tin of beans - FGS it’s fine if it’s a small portion and it’s not given to him every single day for every meal.
You’re getting one small snapshot here of one meal of OP’s kid. 🙄
