Pregnancy social services !

I am 37 weeks , I have had previous issues with the father (now ex partner) I have been told there has been a referral to social services , this was when I was 25 weeks . I haven’t heard of them about anything and my midwife hasn’t mentioned anything .
I’m worried there going to turn up at the birth as I’ve read online a pre-birth assessment would be done 😫
Any advice ???

They won't turn up at the birth
You could phone them to ask if there is a referral on file

Somethingsnappy · 22/02/2022 17:00

A pre birth assessment sounds like an assessment will be made at some point during your pregnancy. There is no reason at all to think they'll turn up at the birth, unless they've explicitly said that.

If they were going to do a pre birth assessment they should have started a long time back.

They haven’t said that but I know a referral has been made , I just want to be prepared as I’ve read they can turn up at the birth and not tell the mother of the child until labour starts , it’s a nightmare 😫!

I would ring them up and ask some questions op.
This is stress you don't need Thanks

Charls338 · 22/02/2022 17:04

Exactly my thoughts but I’m just thinking the worst ! Some outcomes of pre birth assessment could be that the mother never gets told until the birth. I just want to be prepared for the worst 😫

Thank you 🥺 I will ring them tomorrow and hopefully everything will be okay

No that's impossible They can't do an assessment without your consent
2YearsOfWastedTime · 22/02/2022 17:08

Are you worried they will turn up at the birth and take your child away?

GMH74 · 22/02/2022 17:09

They've probably forgotten about you. If you ring them you'll draw attention to yourself.

RedCandyApple · 22/02/2022 17:09

I would call them and ask, don’t want to go into too much detail but social services did turn up at the hospital with me and my son 8 years ago after I gave birth, the social worker appeared at the hospital to visit me despite none of the hospital telling me this would be happening, she visited me on the ward in front of other patients, I was shocked they would allow this and I wasn’t on any kind of plan like cin/cp, at this point it was only in the assessment stage. I made a complaint about this and funny enough the case was closed after that.

Thank you for replying , this makes me sound more hopeful that it will be ok to be honest . Couldn’t imagine how they made you feel turning up unannounced 😫

Visiting after birth can happen if the hospital refers to us and it's urgent. I've been to hospital to see a mum and new baby. But this was because serious presenting issues arose AT hospital not because I was doing a pre birth assessment.
Theunamedcat · 22/02/2022 17:19

Are you away from the dad?

Charls338 · 22/02/2022 17:21

Are you a professional? what if the outcome of pre-birth assessment was for removal at birth? Would I be told .
Really appreciate the replies it helps a lot 🙂

Yes you would 100% be told and involved in the (often lengthy). Social services ABSOLUTELY can not stroll in and take your baby without you knowing and without a court order.

The reason why I didn’t want to post too much is because people normally make out like everyone is lying on here when they post about ss saying you must not be telling the truth, but I did not see a midwife throughout my pregnancy. I’m not defending that I had depression and anxiety so didn’t see a midwife for my whole pregnancy so when I turned up at the hospital they called social services on me without informing me which was fair enough but I didn’t appreciate not being told and being visited at hospital and being visited me on the ward in front of other people, I didn’t even know they could do that. It wasn’t a pre birth assessment I don’t think as the case was closed after I made a complaint and they sent a different social worker out to visit me at home who the closed the case that day.

FelicityPike · 22/02/2022 17:25

Why? That’s insanity and will not look good to any professionals.
LightfoldEngines · 22/02/2022 17:25

Nope, do not do that. That is a terrible idea.
Charls338 · 22/02/2022 17:29

When he lives 45 minutes away and only see him at hospital appointments and the birth I consider that fair. End of the day no matter what goes on in a relationship a child is innocent. If the father plays up after the birth ( where the child is concerned) then that’s a whole different story .

OP posts:
gogohm · 22/02/2022 17:30

If they come it will be afterwards, it isn't necessarily a bad thing because they will reassure themselves that the father is out of the picture and advise you on keeping both of you safe
