When walking from house to car, what to dress baby in???

Hi my son is 4 months old, I usually put him in his car seat with a blanket then put him in the car (the car is parked directly outside our house)

However I’m not able to carry him in the car seat as just had surgery, so I’m going to have to carry him from our house, walk to car and then put him in the car seat. BUT it seems like a lot of effect to put him in his pram suit to walk him for 1 second then to remove pram suit to put in car seat. Would wrapping him a blanket be sufficient?

And say if I was walking him a bit further away like for 15 seconds would a blanket be okay?

I know this may be a stupid question, I just worry about everything!

Thanks so much

Unless it is very cold where you live, he'll be fine. If you are holding him, you will help keep him warm and it is for a very short time.

Thiswayorthatway · 12/02/2022 16:59

What you suggest is just fine, maybe add a hat if cold as that can be easily taken off once in the car. Hope you recover soon Flowers

Do you live in Siberia?

Yes a blanket is fine

Bitofachinwag · 12/02/2022 17:11

Yes that's absolutely fine.

Canaloha · 12/02/2022 17:12

Yes a blanket will be fine, absolutely don't bother faffing around with the pram suit for the sake of a really short distance :)

October2020 · 12/02/2022 17:12

Just pick him up and take him in. He'll be fine.

Get some support for your anxiety. Seriously. I suffered horribly with worries like this and I needed a lot of help to get better - but I am better now.

RedCandyApple · 12/02/2022 17:13

Confused this is not something to worry about. A blanket is fine

Frazzled2207 · 12/02/2022 17:14

Blanket totally fine unless you’re planning on spending quite a prolonged period outside.
15 seconds doesn’t count.

Matilda1981 · 12/02/2022 17:14

Get a tuppence and crumble star wrap - absolutely amazing and they can be worn in the car seat!

Thatsplentyjack · 12/02/2022 17:17

I used to warp mine in my jacket, but a blanket is fine.
Of course he will be fine for a few seconds till you get to the car but I don't relish the thought of going out without my jacket on at the moment so I always wrap them in something.

coodawoodashooda · 12/02/2022 17:18

I think you get a star shaped blanket that fits the shape of a car seat.

Sho97 · 12/02/2022 17:23

@RedCandyApple
Aw this is so supportive 🥰 it's so nice to see the kindness in others.

Blanket is fine OP, I was the same with my little one 😌

Unless this is the case, you are massively over thinking it !
gogohm · 12/02/2022 17:36

If it's less than a minute or so don't worry, assuming you are U.K. based getting wet is more likely than cold! A blanket is just fine. Trust your instincts

shivawn · 12/02/2022 18:00

I just bundle mine up in a blanket.

Caspianberg · 12/02/2022 18:03

We have about a 3 minute walk from door to car port.
Ds car seat stays in car. I always just dress him in a fleece zip up top ( h and m), and hat and mittens if cold. At 7 months some thick booties or extra pair of socks. Then wrap in blanket and carry if it’s cold.

PinkSyCo · 12/02/2022 18:03

Well yeah, a blanket is a blanket whether he’s in the car seat or you’re holding him.

MuchTooTired · 12/02/2022 18:05

I used to wrap mine up in my coat/scarf/anything soft to hand/blanket if I’d been extremely organised!

Borracha · 12/02/2022 18:09

Can you start the car ahead of time so it’s had chance to warm up? I live in a hot country so opposite issue but we do this to give the AC chance to cool things down, including the car seat

AgeingDoc · 12/02/2022 18:10

I'm sure a blanket will be fine.
If you can't yet carry the carseat I wouldn't have thought you'd be comfortable leaning into the car fiddling around trying to get a pramsuit off whilst you load baby into the seat either. Don't make life any more difficult for yourself than it has to be. Unless you're parked miles down the road he'll be fine.
Get well soon.

AegonT · 13/02/2022 16:22

I wound leave the blanket in the car and not worry about a minute or two of cold.

Gocatgo · 13/02/2022 16:49

Definitely the tuppence and crumble star wrap. Used it for transporting DD to the car on the nursery run. I also left her in it while we drove and the car warmed up.

LizzieSiddal · 13/02/2022 16:58

Hat and blanket is fine then just whip the hat off once he’s in the car seat.

And ignore the sarcastic comments, most new mums have lots of worries and it’s perfectly fine and normal to ask others for advice.Flowers

LizzieSiddal · 13/02/2022 17:00

Just a word of warning, if you leave your car unattended, with the engine running, even on your own driveway, you will not be insured if someone drives off in it!
