newborn hair turning orange?

Hi all
I have a gorgeous 5 week old daughter. I have a genuine question about her hair colour, as it’s confusing me. I’m a brunette and my other half is blonde. I have red hair on my side of the family but no red heads on his side, although he has a tiny bit of red in his beard!!!). I strongly felt like our baby would have thick red hair, and when she was born was surprised that she had no red in her hair at all, it was just a browny blonde colour.

It very quickly started changing colour, it’s getting lighter and lighter and now looks orange /red or blonde depending on the light. Some parts are veryyyy gingery then others less so. Some people have commented on how ‘blonde’ her hair is, others have said it looks red!!

I’d be happy either way with blonde or red hair, but at the moment I’m a little worried as whenever I take a photo on my digital camera her hair glows bright orange /yellow and in some lights it looks like she’s had a dodgy hair dye job!!

Have any of your babies had something similar, and what was the outcome?

Attached photos , this is her hair all taken on the same day in different lighting. Crazy as it started a completely different colour a few weeks ago!!!

Looks warm blonde to me, but if she’s lucky it might go red. Keep us posted.

I reckon it'll end up dark blonde. Might go brown with blonde highlights.

My eldest's hair was like your DD's as a newborn op. He's now 10 and it's the brightest orange you could imagine. It makes it very easy to pick him out in the school crowd I'm quite envious of it, it's a beautiful colour!

My Ds son had dark hair at birth, brown eyes and slight 'tanned' complexion, no surprise though as DH is dark haired, brown eyes and tan complexion.
I have blue eyes, mousey brown hair slight pinky complexion.

We thought DD would also take Dh's features...
Nope!
Very pale skin, blue eyes and wisps of red hair! Dh family are Irish and we feel Dd has taken on these features from this side of family!
Now age 4, her hair colour changes often with blonde and strong red tints throughout - Red tints stronger in summer but I'd mainly say she is 'strawberry blonde'

So, I am in the same situation with my 4 month old. I have ginger hair (not auburn but definitely orange), DP has vague ginger genes somewhere.

Sometimes baby's looks blonde, sometimes ginger. However, my hair ALWAYS looks ginger in any light - literally no way you could make it look not ginger in a photo. Also, when I was a baby my hair was tangerine.

For that reason, I think blonde, perhaps strawberry blonde!

The photos look red. Red hair is recessive so both you and for partner could have dark hair, but have a baby with red hair if you both carry the gene.
If one of your parents has red hair you 100% carry the gene. Red hairs in a man's beard is usually a giveaway that he also carries the gene.

That's very clearly ginger, not like OP's newborn- you can see the ginger across the whole of the head very obviously and to the same extent. On OP's pics it's just when it catches the light it looks ginger.

I think most people have different coloured hair in different lights, which makes sense given the relationship between the two but with children it's more pronounced.

My DS was exactly the same as a baby, v blonde but with significant red undertones. DH's best friend has red hair so there were jokes made. He is 10 now and has very dark blonde hair, unless it's sunny and then he goes bright blonde. It's pretty long too so looks like a little surfer.

OP, whats your little girls hair like now? My 3 month old is exactly the same! He was born with brown hair with highlights, and its now red (though mostly falling out now!) But still looks blonde in some lights 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well to update , it went from slight orange tinge to full blown orange 😄 Then the old hair fell out …and her new hair is less orange but definitely strawberry blonde. We get SO many comments on it, in some lights it looks reddish , then some lights it looks straight up blonde 🤷🏻‍♀️
I guess people are more likely to post about red hair as it’s less common than other colours. Even my red-haired mum was surprised to see my daughters hair turn from brown to orange! Baby hair is crazy!

I’m Indian, red / blonde hair runs in both of our families. and my son’s hair was this shade until 6 months ish when it darkened to an ash brown. So I think it can go either way.

It's just the light, sometimes catching red undertones, your 3 photos the colour looks completely different.

Don't know what colour it will be, but it's very beautiful all the same.

What do we think! Her hair was golden looking when she was born. Thought it would be blonde but it looks orange, red, yellow, or brown depending on the light !
