Start calling your aunt 'Uncle.'

And put a t-shirt on Saskia with her name on it, perhaps spelt "Sasss - keee - ah"

kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 11:38

lol excellent holly

She's doing it for attention, so do what you'd do with any attention-seeking child and studiously ignore it. When she realises that she won't get a rise out of you chances are she'll give it up. If not, your dd will soon sort her out once she can speak for herself. (At least, she will if she's anything like my dd2, Ellen, who has a special condescending look she reserves for people who call her Helen!)

flossie64 · 21/12/2007 12:45

My DD is called that aswell .
i have just come to the conclusion that most people over 60 cannot say it her Gran included .
We comprimise and the oldies in our fmily all call her Sas.
My dad God love him before he died always called her by her middle name cos it was my Mums .

kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 13:10

flossie do people react as if its a really unusal name to you ? i really don't think its that unusal and i certainly dont think its an odd or whackky name
have many people asked you why you choose that name ?

jingellbells yes she is doing it for attention, but however we react she we insist on making a song and dance out of it.

thought of another
mmmm have you thought about getting your hearing tested, you can get some really good hearing aids theses days lol very evil

Kittenbaby - why don't you give her a piece of card with Saskia written on it in phonics and explain (albeit very sarcastically) that as she was finding it soooo difficult to pronounce you thought that might help her - and do this in front of as many people as possible. Then if she does it again say 'you should have gone to specsavers, can you not read the card?' and basically belittle the old bag!

nailpolish · 21/12/2007 13:26

my dad who is deaf calls my dd a shortened version of her name
i quite like it but dd (5) hates it
she stamps her foot and stands in front of her grandad hands of hips shouting "CAN YOU HEAR ME THATS NOT MY NAME" and going red in the face
dad just laughs

kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 13:26

lol little that is funny

yes im going to play her at her own game

thanks for all these suggestions
im gonna go in full of confidence with all these up my sleeve

if anyone can think of any others please do add them

i could also her son richard dick
as evryone calls him richard, but hes lovely so i wouldnt do that, but i bet if i started calling him dick, she wouldnt like it one bit

its quite funny to watch but dd is clearly upset and frustrated

DarthVader · 21/12/2007 13:29

I find it hard to believe that she does this on purpose, how can you be sure this is the case?

MerryAnnSinglemas · 21/12/2007 13:31

it's just rude isn't it, not to bother (provided you are of sound mind and hearing) to get someone's name right - and that goes for the spelling of the name too...grrrr

ShowOfHands · 21/12/2007 13:36

My Grandma hated the name my parents chose for me as not only was it not biblical, it was the title of a pop song (blasphemy of the highest order). She called me Ruth for the first year of my life (not even close to my real name) and then when confronted by my angry mother decided to relent and refer to me by my middle name. She bought all sorts of things for me with my middle name emblazoned on them.

Sure enough I just refused to respond when old enough.

kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 13:41

darth if it was anyone else id think they just couldn't say saskia
but this aunt is very difficult at times and trys to put you down alot like with all the horrible comments shes made to me about bf
its kinda hard to explain

but trust me she is definatley doing it on purpose
when we told her dds name was saskia she screwed up her face and say ohh well might of known YOU couldnt of could her anything normal.
[if i didnt like a name a friend or relative had choosen i wouldnt be so rude.]

she acts
as if saskia was some kind of really really strange oddball name
i don't think it is
and i don't even think its difficult to say it sounds how its spelt

OP posts:
kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 13:43

soh what happened when you refused to respond ?

OP posts:
MerryAnnSinglemas · 21/12/2007 13:43

does she think it's a bit 'posh' or something ?

kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 13:46

yes merry thats exactley her problem

and thats why she want to try to put us down

how did you figure that one out?

OP posts:
kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 13:46

she thinks im middleclass just because i bf
as well

OP posts:
kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 13:48

but i don't really care about that, but it does bug me if she calls dd the wrong name

OP posts:
kittenbaby · 21/12/2007 13:49
