Would you visit a smokers house as a one off?

One off visit for a couple of hours at a smokers house for family gathering with a child?
They won't smoke in the house at all when guests are there, and will have had windows open to air out any prior smoke in the house.
WWYD?

Yes I would. How old is your child?

DropYourSword · 27/12/2021 12:48

Nope. It’ll stink if they usually smoke inside.

Eileen101 · 27/12/2021 12:52

We do, for a short while. DH's gran smokes like a chimney, but at the front or back door. The house is definitely still a 'smokers house'. The smell lingers... I tend to change their clothes after because it seems to transfer to their clothes.

Yes why wouldnt you.

ParkheadParadise · 27/12/2021 12:54

Yes

RandomMess · 27/12/2021 12:55

Yea for a short while.

theitgirll · 27/12/2021 12:56

Yes - why wouldn't you? Assuming it was tobacco not crack, it's fine.

GreenClock · 27/12/2021 12:58

Yes - on the basis they won’t smoke whilst we were there.

The smell wouldn’t bother me. I’m not a smoker but I don’t mind it. I know that most people find it gross though.

MintJulia · 27/12/2021 12:59

For a short time, yes of course, unless child had serious asthma etc.

CyclesPerfecta · 27/12/2021 12:59

Yes

Bluntness100 · 27/12/2021 12:59

Yes of course. Confused

WheelieBinPrincess · 27/12/2021 13:00

No of course not all our skins would go instantly toxic and peel off onto the stinky carpets. What a horrible way to die!

Or you know, i’d just get over it for a bit.

Goawayangryman · 27/12/2021 13:00

Of course. Good lord. I don't think your child will come to any harm from a few hours in a house where smokers live.

Oblomov21 · 27/12/2021 13:00

Of course.

Mamamamasaurus · 27/12/2021 13:00

'air out any smoke' 🤣🤣. It'll still stink. Take a change of clothes with you, but yes, I probably would for a couple of hours tops.

casinoroyale4ever · 27/12/2021 13:02

Of course.

Quornflakegirl · 27/12/2021 13:13

MIL is a heavy smoker and her house has 40 years old smoking embedded into every part of it. In the few occasions we visited the children needed a complete change of clothes and hair wash as the smell was so overpowering. She didn’t smoke while we were there but the smell cannot be escaped. When she visits us we can smell stale cigarettes on here and sometimes it is almost unbearable. So no, we don’t visit her home because of her smoking.

ParkheadParadise · 27/12/2021 13:25

My sister has a photo of me sitting on my dad's knee I must be about 3, 2 of my sisters are around his neck and he's sitting on the chair with a fag in his mouth. We used to fight between us to see who would get to strike the matches 🙈🙈

WeAllHaveWings · 27/12/2021 13:43

I wouldn't go because the smell of cigarette smoke makes me very nauseous and gives me a headache which doesn't shift until the next day. I give smokers in the street a wide berth as it doesn't take much to make me feel sick. It never used to, I am an ex smoker, I stopped in my mid 30s after 15+ years of smoking when I was pregnant 19 years ago. It made me feel this way when pregnant and still does now, not sure if it is psychological or physical.

If it didn't make me feel this way and they had offered to air the house before and wouldn't smoke in the house when I was there, I would go as a one off short visit.

Svara · 27/12/2021 13:46

I wouldn't want to be in a house myself where people smoke inside. The smell would get in clothes and hair. I'd meet outside or at another location.

FindingMeno · 27/12/2021 13:47

Sometimes I think I live on a different planet.
I think I inhaled more fag smoke than oxygen in the 70's as a child sometimes.
It'll be fine.

Marmelace · 27/12/2021 13:47

Not since I gave up smoking, 3 years on 2nd January, I never realised how awful the stink of it was, makes me want to puke now.

Marmelace · 27/12/2021 13:48

I used to try and catch my dad's smoke rings 😆
Akire · 27/12/2021 13:49

Yes but leave coat etc in the car and then throw everything else I was wearing in the wash. Prob have to wash hair again too

Comedycook · 27/12/2021 13:50

Yes...I grew up in the eighties with two smoking parents. I doubt one day will do any harm
