Would you visit a smokers house as a one off?

One off visit for a couple of hours at a smokers house for family gathering with a child?
They won't smoke in the house at all when guests are there, and will have had windows open to air out any prior smoke in the house.
WWYD?

I watched a programme about childhood asthma. Apparently smoke contains particles of toxins which linger for over 12 hours on your clothes, and are therefore in the air and inhaled in a visit to a smokers house.

Having said that, one short visit with a child isn’t going to kill then unless they have allergies or asthma.

But be prepared to strip them and wash them and their clothes and the same for yourself when you get home as the stink is lingering.

In these covid days we are encouraged to meet outside for fresh air, so could that be an option? A meeting in the garden and blame covid?

Not a problem for me providing they don't smoke whilst there. Smell can be gotten rid of. If you're worried about impact on lungs then you should be thinking about never going outside ever - car pollution, whatever yuk central heating chucks out nevermind industry!

Marmelace · 27/12/2021 13:52

Oh bloody heck, daft git here didn't read op properly! If they are going outside for a smoke you will all be fine.

Yes of course.

If you've ever visited a city for a couple of hours, you would've inhaled far more shit than you would in that house.

@ParkheadParadise

My sister has a photo of me sitting on my dad's knee I must be about 3, 2 of my sisters are around his neck and he's sitting on the chair with a fag in his mouth. We used to fight between us to see who would get to strike the matches 🙈🙈

The third hand smoke in the carpets, curtains, soft furnishings and as a patina in paintwork, doors etc is even worse than fresh smoke to me. I literally cannot be in a house where people smoke indoors.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 27/12/2021 13:57

Of course Confused

Sometimes I think I live on a different planet. I think I inhaled more fag smoke than oxygen in the 70's as a child sometimes. It'll be fine.
Me too!

Me too. All these people donning hazmat suits and wondering if their hair will ever be truly clean again - heaven help us.

No of course not all our skins would go instantly toxic and peel off onto the stinky carpets. What a horrible way to die!

Or you know, i’d just get over it for a bit.

Ha. Love this response. I can't actually believe people can be so so judgmental of other. They won't smoke when you are there. Ffs. Get a grip on yourself OP
girlmom21 · 27/12/2021 14:01

Depends if I like them 🤷‍♀️

What do you think the childs going to do ,wrap themselves in the curtains, roll around on the carpet and lick the paint work !🤣 Get over yourself and dont be so prissy , it would amaze me if you have anyone to visit based on how judgemental you are.
trumpisagit · 27/12/2021 14:09

We did as children, but thankfully we know very few smokers now.
I would potentially take them, but my kids hate the smell of smoke, and would struggle not to say something like "it stinks" unless I briefed them first.

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/12/2021 14:15
Hmm
ufucoffee · 27/12/2021 14:18

Only if you and the children wear gas masks and full ppe. Ffs what on earth do you think is going to happen Hmm

This. Still alive.
shivawn · 27/12/2021 14:41

I would but very reluctantly.

SarahJessicaParker1 · 27/12/2021 14:42

Yes

Quornflakegirl · 27/12/2021 14:49

A smoker is fully entitled to smoke in their own. Someone who doesn’t like the smell is also fully entitled to refuse to visit, as we have done.

Quornflakegirl · 27/12/2021 14:52

Home!

AuntieMarys · 27/12/2021 14:58

No I wouldn't. Smokers stink.

Mrsmch123 · 27/12/2021 15:38

My parents both smoke and indoors which tbh I think is grim. At least go to the back door🙄 but if I'm going to there house with my little boy I ask them not to smoke in the living room the day before we come. you can still smell that it's a smokers house and I normally change our clothes as soon as we get home. I don't go to their house I often because of this but they know this.

Bagelsandbrie · 27/12/2021 16:03

I grew up in the 80s with my Mum, Dad and Gran all literally chain smoking around me. (Gran lived with us). As an adult now I cannot stand smoking, absolutely detest it and the smell of it and wouldn’t knowingly go into a smokers house. I hate it so much it I actually hold my breath if I walk past someone on the street smoking!

You have to brief your dc not to be rude before you go anywhere? That must be tiring, what a shame they can’t get the hang of it.
