Hey everyone , just a quick one. My 3 year old has been ill since Friday now I've been to hospital twice due to temps that just won't go away! 40.7 was the highest he had got. We are up again with the next episode of temps , 38.8 atm, he's had some calpol and a massive bottle of water that he has demolished I'm happy about that. He hadn't ate a thing since Friday and lost abit of weight. He says he's hungry I make him whatever and he doesn't eat it. My point is it's now Tuesday and he's still got a temp, snotty nose, gunky eyes, sore throat. We have taken covid test still awaiting the results. I'm just fed up now I feel so scared everytime he gets a temp as he had sepsis when he was 3 month old and they kept telling me for weeks it was just a viral infection that turned out it was sepsis. I'm petrified there wrong again , my kids haven't ever lasted this long with a temp when its viral? I also woke up the Saturday and had serious swollen glands (still have) a sharp flemmy cough, head ache , really stiff neck and pain down back too I've still got this headache too. Anyone else experiencing this???

Have they checked a urine sample?

Brenna24 · 02/12/2021 22:06

Well done for fighting for him. It is terrifying when they are so little and ill. My DD was admitted with suspected sepsis the same day as my mum was in for open heart surgery in a different hospital, 2 hours away. She as only 2.5 months corrected ago (born 6 weeks premature, 4 months beforehand). Luckily hers was 'just' viral. It was a long horrible day. I hope that he turns a corner tonight and is much better tomorrow.

Newchallenge · 02/12/2021 22:10

Well done for fighting for him! It sounds like you have done all the right things. I hope you both feel better soon.

girafferafferaffe · 02/12/2021 22:24

Ah op that's really shit isn't it. You knew all along and it's so frustrating how much you have to fight to get them to do something. Hope he's on the mend soon

Panda8383 · 02/12/2021 22:24

I hope your little one is better soon, sorry you’ve had to go through this again :-( he’s in the right place now and hopefully has a speedy recovery..good for you to go with your instinct and go back to the hospital! It’s shit that you just get fobbed off with it’s just viral or whatever else! Sending you big hugs x

justasking111 · 02/12/2021 22:32

This is the third time he has been in the right place. It's just not good enough, you've been let down by the GP and the hospital. I'm just so angry that you've had this fight

pipiandbelle · 02/12/2021 22:39

Oh no OP that sounds awful. I hope he feels a little better tomorrow x

bluebell34567 · 02/12/2021 22:57

bringing up a child is like being in a rollercoster, isnt it op?
so many dangerous turns.
i hope he will get well soon Flowers.

Thankyou everyone for the kind messages! I've had a little cry because I hate loosing my head but I'm very protective over my children especially since my son has had sepsis before and it took 3 weeks to be admitted to hospital after constantly telling me it was q viral because they thought I was young (22years) and stupid. But my trait is I research every damn thing I can about illness in children so I always know what to look out for. He's having his bloods done now while he's asleep. Had a urine sample too. He's only had 1 wee since been here. He's on the IV but he was too dehydrated for the bloods to be taken earlier. So he's had alot of fluids and is now having bloods. 7 effing days and now they decide when he's drip white with his eyes rolling over his head to see there's something wrong. Im mentally and physically drained I have 2 other children I've been taking to school and back in this whole time I've had no sleep for 7 days worrying and looking after my son. Partners been helping alot but I've asked to take the kids to school these times so I can get abit of fresh air.. all this when I have tonsillitis too!!

Oh OP, you really have been through it all. Your little boy is lucky to have a mum who fights for him as you do. It is awful if they dismiss you for being young. Well done for for fighting for your boy.

If he is on an IV at least you don’t have to worry about the fluids. Your description of the constant vomiting and the sleepiness sounded very concerning but now the doctors can monitor him.

Please, and I cannot stress this enough, look after yourself. They will have tea on the ward and maybe you can get some toast. You will need to make this a priority. Hospitals are awful for children and your DS needs you to cuddle him, be there for him, read to him if he is awake. You will not be able to do that if you don’t look after yourself.

Please keep us updated Flowers

Hi! Thankyou. His temp is down , he is weeing and drinking now. Just looking too see if he will eat this afternoon then maybe can go home if he does! My other children have been throwing up too at home aswell as me!:( so I have another week or so with sleepless nights :'(... I cannot cope with how much I'm throwing up everytime a doc comes in I run to the toilet I've got such a phobia of being sick infront of anyone it stresses me out. This week by far has been the worst! So glad my boy has stayed awake for 3 hours now!

@shabbadababa OM*G I could have written this a month ago. 7 days we have been in and out of A&E at 2-3-4am with fevers of 40 that did not respond to Calpol. I used Nurofen suppositories (sourced in the EU as I have not seen them here) and then also paralen suppositories.

He was poorly in general but not otherwise too ill, cough and snotty nose, a bit off food but not much, good with milk and water.

But the fevers went on I kid you not 7 days straight. Without stopping, and Calpol was no use to me.

The doctors at the A&E said "yeah this is very normal (not to me!) and only come back if he is floppy unresponsive bla bla (basically when he is on the brink of death)". Oh and blue lips, like if he cannot breathe, come back.

Did you do a PCR test on him?
