Cloth is over. I don't know if it is forever, but definitely for the forseeable future

So.

The various eco ones don't give a decent fit and I end up with poo up backs, or tabs breaking etc.

Pampers = Nice fit, stretchy sides, but feel sort of crunchy and cost a bit more.

Huggies = Stretch and fit not quite so good, but not crunchy as much and are a smidge cheaper.

Supermarket own = Not tried with nappies, but I know with pull ups I have always ended up back with pampers or huggies.

Is there some better nappy out there, or do I do the toss up depending on how I feel at the time?

oh flame- why is cloth over? i wouldn't know which end of a sposie to put where so i'll be as useful to you as a choccy teapot

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 15/12/2007 13:15

Have had poo up back with pampers and sainsburys own. sainsburys generally regarded as crappy nappy.
I don#'t buy huggies because of bringing up baby sponsorship...might weaken on that at some point, but they are the same as pampers anyway...I tend to buy the biggest pack I can that costs the least per nappy. Usually there is an offer somewhere.
What happened about cloth? Do you have a washing machine issue?

mrsflowerpot · 15/12/2007 13:15

I've always found the Nature ones pretty good, are they one of the ones you are having problems with? But they don't do pull-ups unfortunately (or at least, not at our Sainsburys). Otherwise, I chop and change a bit and find the supermarket own nappies just fine.

WRT pull-ups, I tend to stick to Pampers simply because they have the sticky tab at the back when you roll it up and Huggies don't so they are less foul to dispose of.

Would it offset some of your disposable to give me some pointers on cloth pants for 2 yr old dd as a preamble to potty training?

Have always used Nature, and very rarely had a problem (occasionally a run of about 5 of them will have dodgy tabs)

oh, and always use pampers for nighttimes, cos the Nature ones can't last that long ...

mejon · 15/12/2007 13:18

I use disps at night and when we're out and about (not brave enough to risk cloth out of the house). I use Pampers Baby Dry at night which I've had no problems with and for daytime, Boots own Superdry (green pack) work well for us. Wasn't impressed with Sainsburys, Tesco or Asda own brand.

Wandered off to do housework

Cloth - He had tonsilitis and ended up with this weird rash (I think it was a strep rash), but he went REALLY sore with it, doc said it was "nappy rash", and gave me thrush cream . I switched to disposables whilst we got over antibiotic poo, rash cleared up, did a full treatment incase it was thrush etc, did all his nappies on Very Hot Washes (well, 60). When we went back he had a rash like he was reacting to what they were washed in (the red nappy when they're naked kind of look), so, washed them all AGAIN - stripped them, went back to fairy non-bio liquid like we used to use (and never had any issues with), tried again and the bum covering rash came back, and brought along a friend of very sore weeping red lumpy patches. I have tried different creams, lotions and potions, different liners, different fabrics, different powders - the only thing that is making it go away is disposables.

He is now at the stage that if I brandish cloth he runs away saying "No! Ow!" holding his bum He is obviously not happy with them, and as much as I love cloth, it isn't fair on him.

Nature ones - never seem to hold enough, don't give a very flexible fit (I'm used to shaped nappies with nippas!), and the tabs seem to break on every 5th one. (Maybe I'm just unlucky)

I haven't been buying big packs yet - I am still in the mindset of "it is just temporary"

MrsFlowerPot You're so kind to let me ramble about cloth! Wait a couple of weeks though and I will have new and exciting pull ups to tell you about

i use tesco own and boots own and have been fine with them. Had to spend a week in disposables due to horrific nappy rash but my cloth days are rapidly approaching and end due to potty training!

mumofmonSTARsOfBethlehem · 15/12/2007 14:31

tesco own brand are good and sainsbo...i think it was tesco that huggies made for a while. The sainsbo ones look like pampers from a distance too

I stay away from shops own pull ups as they look really frilly

potty training an option? (thinking of how flameboy knows what he is doing)

ChubbyStuckForAFestiveNameBurd · 15/12/2007 14:31

ASDA are nice and soft - not crunchy and plasticky like pampers, and ubercheap.

coldtits · 15/12/2007 14:31

morrisons own are very very good, feel and work like a branded nay, but are seven quid for 50

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 15/12/2007 14:33

I have tried pampers, huggies, boots own, netto own and tesco - tesco are by far and away the best, and are definately what I choose.
Sorry to hear about the rash, sounds horrid.

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 15/12/2007 14:35

MoM - we are getting close I think - he asked for a poo yesterday, sat on the loo and swung his legs and looked like he was trying (but he may have been trying to climb off ), I gave up after a little while, put his nappy on him, and he pooed about two mins later.

Not sure if we have a morrisons...

choosyfloosy · 15/12/2007 14:35

Own brands always brought ds out in a special rash of their own. Nature always leaked for us though I know many who swear by them. Pampers were best unfortunately.

Pannacotta · 15/12/2007 14:39

We use Moltex, more eco friendly than most and good for delicate skin as they are not bleached and contain v small amounts of the gen granules.

mumofmonSTARsOfBethlehem · 15/12/2007 14:41

what size is he? (or what weight if thats easier!)

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 15/12/2007 14:46

He's a size two! Or a petite toddler! Or a large Berry Plush.

He's a "f*ck knows" in disposable sizes I actually accosted a woman a few weeks back to ask her what size she was buying because her child looked similar to mine She looked at me like I was a freak, sort of "How do you have a toddler and not know what size nappies he wears "

4+ huggies seem a bit big. 4 pampers pull ups are nice. I think I had 4+ when I bought pampers nappies

OP posts:
CarGirl · 15/12/2007 14:48

my dd is tall and slim and size 4 is a snugger fit on her than 4+ so you have to try to see IYSWIM

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 15/12/2007 14:48

Is it like a large fuzzi and a petite toddler situation?

OP posts:
CarGirl · 15/12/2007 14:49

yes and you need a snug fit to prevent leaks! My dd4 has always had slim thighs!

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 15/12/2007 14:51

Ooh that is the other thing - he can shove his hand down the front/up the legs and play with himself... not fun with poo But he looks bloody silly in his vests because they are all C4C

OP posts:
mumofmonSTARsOfBethlehem · 15/12/2007 14:54

he sounds similar to DS2 - ish!

do you want nappies or pull ups really?

sainsbo/tesco size 4/4+ worked well for incredibly active (and skinny) ds2. He didn't poo though so dunno what they are like for containing normal poo! They handled the odd explosion very well i have to say!

Huggies pull ups in medium are a nice fit

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 15/12/2007 14:57

At the moment cost is the most important thing, so I am sticking with nappies whilst he will let me. (It galls to spend money on em when I have boxes of the things here)

OP posts:
mumofmonSTARsOfBethlehem · 15/12/2007 15:03

tesco and sainsbo then

i haven't tried any other shops own brands so dunnpo how they compare with those. If i had the choiuce i would go for sainsbo but thats coz they look like pampers and its nearer than tesco!
sainsbo to you

If the link doesn't work it says.... Sainsbury's Little Ones Nappies Dry, Size 4, Maxi Carry Pack x 34
Price Promotion Quantity and add to trolley
£3.97/unit
£0.12/ea

mumofmonSTARsOfBethlehem · 15/12/2007 15:04

tbh any price will seem a lot to you after spending NOTHING on nappies

maximummummy · 15/12/2007 15:15

i used lidls which were great
my friend says tescos are fab and wishes she hadn't wasted so much money on pampers/huggies in the past
