Need a hand hold! Sickness bug

Hi all... posted about this sickness bug already this week but I'm freaking outtttt.
DS2 was sick once on sat and had diorehha twice. He's fine now, thank god!
My eldest however had diorehha this morning and a few times this afternoon and tonight :( it's not complete water but if I have him something to eat he's be on the toilet! :( Poor boy :( I have the worst sickness phobia and I feel like I'm drowning in worry. Surely if he was gonna be sick it would've happened by now right?! He seems absolutely fine in himself and says he's hungry :(
I felt really run down and sick last night.... I'm hoping that was my share of it but now worried about catching it properly from ds1. Waaahhhh can anyone rationalise and call me down :(

I have never, ever caught a sickness bug from mine. Ages 10 and 12 now so that's a lot of bugs. Don't worry. This time next week this will be a distant memory.

november90 · 10/11/2021 19:50

Thank you @SummerHouse you're so right! I had today as a goal thinking of we made it to today we would be ok but now my eldest is unwel I feel like the clock has started again :(
I sound pathetic I know but sickness bugs are my biggest fear 🙈🙈🙈

There does seem to be an odd bug going round- we've all had diahorrea, fatigue and stomach aches but no vomiting at all.

DS is on day 3 of D but no V at the moment.

Hopefully you won't have any sickness in your family either 🤞🤞

Hopefully it will pass you by and you won't catch it, especially as your your youngest started with it on Saturday.

Try to keep calm, and not panic and try for an early night. Hope your children feel better soon.

november90 · 10/11/2021 20:40

Thank you all. My youngest is absolutely fine now, back to his normal self! My eldest is a bit quiet and just gone to bed. I'm so worried about him being sick during the night! I just feel like I let them down because I should be calm and comforting but I just panic, it's like a flight to fight reaction I just can't help it! WhT makes it worse if that I know full well that my fear has stemmed from my poor mum and my godmother who had this fear when I was little and reacted just as I do when I was poorly (I am not bad mouthing them)... so I know I need to not react like this but I just don't know how to not be so worried about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have emetophobia and my child has been around her cousins who have all had a sickness bug this week and she's been complaining of a sore tummy today and has a slight temp so I no how you feel , I'm on edge worried incase she starts being sick I worry I won't no how to cope

november90 · 10/11/2021 20:54

@candyfloss18 oh I'm so sorry lovely, it is just simply awful the worry isn't it. I just wish there was a lateral flow test or something so I knew what to expect 🙈
Bless you, I so hope you're all ok! Just think, it could very well just be a normal tummy ache xx

It's the not knowing for me I feel like im just waiting for it to happen, it's so silly but I just can't stop the worrying. I haven't eaten all day out of fear i'm going to get it , really need to get a grip of this fear because im pregnant with my second now and the chances are high that they're going to bring stomach bugs home , hope your little ones are ok and that you have a sick free night , if not im here to talk to as I won't sleep tonight now xx

november90 · 11/11/2021 01:24

I absolutely understand how you feel, because I'm the same.
My poor boy woke up telling me he needed a poo so I went to the toilet and he was covered in sick. He hadn't even realised he'd been sick during the night :( So I've had to throw everything out and now I darent put him back to bed as we're on the last lot of bedding 😰😰😰
What a week!

Hi everyone! DS has just woke up and asked for breakfast although I can tell he still doesn't feel well a he looks terrible bless him :( He was last sock/diorehha about 12. When should I try him with some food?
I have just given him a little bit of water!

OP posts:
Chocolatetrifle · 11/11/2021 10:52

Oh no what a night for you. Why don't you try him with some toast just to start off with.

SummerHouse · 11/11/2021 10:56

The advice is, if they want to eat, let them eat. Something simple like toast as pp suggests.

I hope you are through the worst of it but look, you dealt with last night, you got through it. You have dealt with days of worry over it. You managed. Well done mama! You can do this. Next time will be easier knowing you have got through it before. Flowers

november90 · 11/11/2021 11:02

Aww thank you so much for being kind everyone it really has ment so much to me and made me feel better.
I'm so glad that it's over for them both now (or on the way). DS2 was happy this morning and DS1 is still unwell but hopefully on the other end of it. I Willy ru him with some toast in a bit 😬 He's wanting coco pops and Frosties bless him.
Now I'm just panicking about being sick myself 🙈 I felt really sick the other day, I was hoping that was my share of it but im not convinced after last nights antics!

OP posts:
candyfloss18 · 11/11/2021 11:03

Ah I feel for you but you've done it you've survived and the worst of it all is probably over I hope he's feeling better soon I'd maybe give some dry toast for now see how that goes down ? It's good he hasn't been sick since about 12 last night that's a good sign x

candyfloss18 · 11/11/2021 11:05

Try not to panic Ino a lot easier said than done ! But there's nothing you can do now if you have it you have it and I just tell myself it's my body's way of getting rid of the bad stuff so essentially you go sick to make yourself feel better x

november90 · 11/11/2021 11:38

Thank you both!
I just went in to see him and he's gone back to sleep bless him. Hopefully he'll have a few more hours and then I'll try a bit later on ♥️
Thanks for being supportive and not judgemental x

candyfloss18 · 11/11/2021 19:30

How are you doing ? Is your son ok now x

november90 · 11/11/2021 20:23

@candyfloss18 well I thought he was on the mend but he's just had diorehha again so another sleepless night it seems for me. I am fed up beyond belief. I had to buy a new duvet, bed sheets, pillow, mattress protector, pillow protector... everything Today and I literally can't afford it again tomorrow if we have another sick episode tonight 😢

OP posts:
mrshodgeheg · 11/11/2021 20:29

Can you make him a bed of towels tonight instead of the duvet?

Plus If you have more than one mattress protector then layers are your friend. Mattress protector, sheet, towel, mattress protector, sheet towel.

november90 · 12/11/2021 10:12

Thank you for the advice! I did try to lay a towel down etc but he was so excited for his new bedding he wouldn't settle 🙈 Luckily he has woke Up his normal happy self - what a relief! Im so happy he's feeling better! I wasn't sure what to give him to eat so I just thought I would try small quantities of his normal food as he's so hungry!
I have spooked myself out though as I stupidly started googling when I would get symptoms and I read they can be infectious for 7-10 days and when he was laughing today a tiny bit of spit went on cheek 😬 I'm so pathetic I know... this is just my very weak spot 🙈

OP posts:
november90 · 12/11/2021 10:13

I am in absolute awe of my son though. No tears or panicking at all through all of his illness. I can't believe how brave he is!

OP posts:
mrshodgeheg · 12/11/2021 10:15

@november90 I understand, I'm fairly paranoid about it myself. They're allowed back in school after 48 hours so I'm sure it's unusual for them to be contagious longer than that.

Good hand hygiene is about the only thing you can do to reduce your risk, and I'm sure you've been very good at that.

november90 · 12/11/2021 11:08

It's horrible isn't it!
I would've hoped that if I was to be poorly I would've been by now because my youngest was poorly nearly a week ago but I know it doesn't always work like that 🙈
Think I need to work on the sickness anxiety before the next time 😬

OP posts:
mrshodgeheg · 12/11/2021 12:02

For me it's the anticipation when I know they've been in contact. Say a child at school was sick for example.

Once it actually starts I'm ok, but it's that fear of them being ill.

november90 · 15/11/2021 16:07

Hi all just me again.
So ds was sick on weds night at around 11. When would you say that enough time has past for me to assume I've not caught it?
I know nobody can say an exact time but I'm still worried about this :(
It took ds1 4 days to be sick after ds2
