Post your woes (or joys) here if you're currently tackling 2 kids under 2 (please say i'm not alone!)

DS1 is super wingey today and driving me batty...the slightest thing and he's whining and crying.

Have managed a 10 min walk with pushchair to get out of house. DS1 watching far too much TV, i haven't brushed my hair and the dog won't stop barking.

I need some gin.

Oh no, I've just realised that I wrote the longest post in the world, i think i might have bored everyone off the post. Sorry

alicet · 10/12/2007 13:05

soph28 you're spot on about anyone having a baby shoudl realise how easy it is! I was just saying this this am - I wish I had known this with ds1!

ANyway after the day from hell with both boys last wed things are very calm with us today. Both boys sleeping at the mo (ds2 in hugabub, ds1 in cot) so enjoying a bit of me time too! We went to a toddler group this am which was great fun - The best advice I have been given about 2 is to tire out the older one! Seems to be working for now and we're off to the park this pm!

Did read through the rest of the posts other than sophs but baby brain means I have forgotton what you all said - sure you all understand being in the same position!

Oh and met a lady yesterday who had 3 under 3 until a coupld of months ago and not twins either! Superwoman! She said she copes by not expecting anything and just letting things take as long as they will take! Good advice too I thought...

alicet · 10/12/2007 13:07

Oh and rudolphhazyjanedeear we just pin ds1 down in the bath, stick our fingers in the sides of his mouth and clean his teeth while he protests. Otherwise we would never get them clean. And although he shouts when doing it he is all smiles the minute we stop... We let him play with the toothbrish too which he loves and would eat a tube of toothpaste if given half the chance!

having day from hell. Give me strength.

Losing my temper, and i can't take the whining and crying anymore i don't think.

Have already texted DH to tell him i'm going straight in the bath when he gets home, with a glass of wine.

It's taken me an hour to eat my lunch, and now that DS1 is watching Loose Women ( ) and DS2 is on my lap, i have relative quiet.

I want to go bed and start all over again.

i think i'm having one of those days where i expect too much from myself. Have changed the bedding, made DS1 fishcakes ready for tea, put some washing on, hoovered living room, fed dog, loaded dishwasher, been for a walk...it looks like loads when you write it down!

Then they both kicked off at the same time, and DS1 hasn't had his usual nap, and there's no sign of him having one either!

Roll on 3.30! I may go wild and paint my toenails too, to cheer myself up.

merrykatyt1 · 10/12/2007 13:45

ok i don't even have my 2 yet but ds is driving me crazy today - can someone please come round and explain to him that it is NAPTIME, aarrrggghh!!! one hour later and he's still banging on the door refusing to sleep. yet he was rubbing his eyes through lunch, grrrr.
ok deep breath, in and out.....
dh away tonight, but i'm having that bath with glass of wine too once (fingers crossed!) ds goes to bed.
when did everyone's older child stop their naps???
please tell me not 18 months, it's the only thing keeping me sane that i MIGHT get the odd half hour a day when they are both asleep at the same time....

merrykatyt1 · 10/12/2007 13:47

x-posted u grrrlwith2, yes i'm trying to get things done too.

TinselGrrrlWith2Boys · 10/12/2007 13:47

mine won't nap today...and he's 18mths! God no!!!!!! I need that naptime, even if he doesn't!

merrykatyt1 · 10/12/2007 13:51

wouldn't you just LOVE if somone told you you HAD to sleep, just lie down, close your eyes and wake up in an hour or so. YES YOU MUST!
oh bliss....

chirpygirl · 10/12/2007 15:15

I got her to nap!
Am exhausted now though, house is a tip from weekend but can't be fannied to tidy it.
Had to go to doctors this morning so took DD's to park to tire them out, cue mahoosive tantrum from DD1 when she realised her mate wasn't coming, sat down in a puddle and screamed.
Luckily I had a change of clothes in my bag as she did it last time as well so changed her, went to post office then to docs in time for 11.40 appointment. Feed DD2, let DD1 play with toys and she does huge stinky poo that gets everyone's attention so run off to change her, tick tick tick and then
1.00 we get called in! DD1 has eaten all her lunch that I was trying to save to keep her quiet during procedure, and has started whining, DD2 is grizzling. Not happy, procedure hurts, but when the doctor says 'all finished' DD1 says
'I know mummy, good girl, all done, you okay?'
Even the doc got a bit choked at that!

santaspregnantlittlehelper · 10/12/2007 17:38

can't keep up with all the posts. i'm blaming the preg head.

am so with all the wine i nthe bath talk - no drinking for another couple of months yet. then i'm def going to need it judging by the difficulties of 2 under 2!

cazboldy · 10/12/2007 17:47

my lo won't let5 me put her down today!
I have so much to do and so little time.

have to say though the lo's are a doddle compared to my 11 year old who has just told me he needs a costume for the school play - tomorrow!

Rudolphthehazeyjanedeer · 10/12/2007 19:31

Today was a long day, dd2 has had this wierd lump on her shoulder,it's been there for a couple of months and we have been waiting for an ultrasound appointment from the hospital. This morning it was suddenly huge, so we went in to the hospital at lunchtime to see the doctor, and ended up waiting around all afternoon, only to be told that they want to scan it tomorrow morning. They said it could be an abcess, and may need operating on,but they want to scan it to make sure its not something else, just thinking about it makes me feel sick.Fortunately Dd1 treated the whole day like one long toddler group session, the hospital has so many toys, but dh and I are knackered, and worried. I hate hospitals. Sorry to moan, had to get that off my chest.

lulalullabye · 10/12/2007 19:58

hazeyjane, I hope dd is ok. Our dd2 has a freaky thumb, the joint at the tip is crooked and bends inwards. We have been to see the orthopaedic consultant and need to now go and see plastic/hand surgeon in Jan. Apparantly it is very rare so she is an official freak !! We have got used to it now but it is freaky.

Teeth wise, we let her clean them and she never really did it properly so we pinned her down in a head lock and brushed. Now she justs sits with her mouth open waiting. I think you always think the worst about forcing things, but sometimes it's the best thing to do.

Sprogger, how old is your lo. Dd2 is 5mths and her day routine is pants.

alicet · 10/12/2007 21:25

Hazeyjane - thinking of you - hope your dd is OK.

Ds1 is 22 months and still has a nap at lunchtime. So don't panic yet! We have had a couple of times where he hasn't (last wed for starters which was my day from hell ) but mostly he does. Agree though its for me rather than him - he's happy enough without it!

chirpygirl · 10/12/2007 21:42

Oh Hazeyjane, I hope everything is ok and you get some rest tonight.

And who teh hell gets a bath? I would love one! DD2 still stays up with us all evening so until teh cluster feeding stops I am stuck with a child constantly...doesn't stop me having a tasty glass of wine though!
DD1 has suddenly sprouted manners as well, she clocked DD2 with a book earlier and I said 'say sorry to her' without thinking, and she did! and then gave her a kiss!
[sweet]

Rudolphthehazeyjanedeer · 10/12/2007 21:54

thankyou all, am going to go to bed now, will let you know how we get on tomorrow.

rony · 11/12/2007 11:23

hi all sounds like everyone had a rubbish day yesterday, hope today is going better!

I was up 4 times last night with ds, he's suddenly taken to only bfing at night, not interested at all in the day (too busy!) but making up for it at night, little scamp! he's teething - maybe that's why? any ideas welcome... he loves drinking from a sippy cup, was thinking maybe it's time to move onto formula in a cup during the day...

had a power cut for 3 hours yesterday afternoon and had to cook tea on dh's camping stove. Managed not to set fire to house/myself/kids.

justabout - no I'm not Afrikaans I'm English - just here for a couple of years for dh's job.

well i got my bath Shaved my legs and everything! and DS1 loved his homemade fishcakes, so they were worth the effort in the end.

DS1 napping (yay!) have got few things done round the house, and going to Post Office later. If i feel brave i may take DS1 to park on the way back...tis flipping freezing out there!

RFCMummy · 11/12/2007 19:02

Loving this thread!!!

I have DD1 22 months and DD2 6 months. It's double the fun but so hectic sometimes!!

trying to change DD2 nappy while DD1 attempts to 'help' by applying sudocream to DD2.... on her head, arms, everywhere!

I get frustrated sometimes and have a rant then I feel awful because I love them so much and remind myself that I choose to have them whereas they are stuck with me!!

lulalullabye · 11/12/2007 19:12

We had a very productive day today. By 10.30 I had done all the ironing, made the dinner and both dd,s in bed. Went to a friends this pm and had a mad 4 toddler and 2 babies couple of hours and then came home. Dd's now n bed and have glass of vino ! Hmmm nice.

As you all know take one day as it comes as the next may be totally different

Rony, how old is ds, dd2 is definatly having a growth spurt. She is having on average 6 oz bottles every 3 hrs at the mo. This has coincided with her waking up to the world iykwim. She is 5mths. She was in her playstation thing today and kept hitting the lights and dd1 not impressed and kept tucking her hands back inside.

chirpygirl · 11/12/2007 20:47

Evening all, hope everything is okay hazeyjane.

We had the night from hell last night, DD2 didn't go down until midnight and then started grumbling at about 4am, which is when I realised we had one of those nappies, you know the ones, where they don't just leak out of the sides but up the back all the way up to their necks and out of the front as well. And she had done it at least half an hour before as it had started to dry so there was nothing for it but to take her into the bathroom and dunk her in a warm basin of water! Cue lights going on, DH freaking out about me getting it on our bed, much screaming as I undressed her in the (freezing) bathroom, DD1 crying as she wants to know what is going on etc etc
Ended up with DH taking DD1 into the spare room to sleep with him and DD2 deciding it was morning and giggling and playing until 6.

Then DD1 woke DH up by patting his face and saying 'hello pretty daddy'...at 7am!
Didn't manage to get past the supermarket today but have playgroup tomorrow with DD1's best mate so hopefully that will burn off some energy!

Rudolphthehazeyjanedeer · 11/12/2007 20:58

I hope you're right Lula, and tomorrow is a totally different day, because today was another long one.

Went to hospital for scan at 9, came home at 6, having waited around for the whole day so that they could draw some fluid off the lump, to be tested. Fortunately they think it is a cyst that has become infected , and a course of antibiotics may reduce it, but if it doesn't get any smaller, she might have to go to bristol to have it removed. I was so relieved that she wasn't going to have to have a general anaesthetic, that the surgeon sticking the needle into the lump wasn't half as bad as it should have been.

Had to cancel Tesco delivery, so I'll have to make do with a glas of sherry whilst i watch Spooks rather than the glass of wine I had planned for!
