Post your woes (or joys) here if you're currently tackling 2 kids under 2 (please say i'm not alone!)

DS1 is super wingey today and driving me batty...the slightest thing and he's whining and crying.

Have managed a 10 min walk with pushchair to get out of house. DS1 watching far too much TV, i haven't brushed my hair and the dog won't stop barking.

I need some gin.

Oh and mine would be a mahoosssive glass of white wine! Except I can't drink as I'm on antibiotics prior to having a coil fitted in a couple of weeks...

I have survived with the aid of my hug a bub sling which is FAB. Ds2 sleeps like a little angel in it and its totally hands free so I can play with ds1 at the same timke. One word of warning though - I wouldn't recommend changing ds1 nappies on the floor while he is having a tantrum and kicking out though!

I am also very lucky to have ds1 in nursery for 3 days a week - he loves it and I get some chill out time getting to know ds2. So I only have both of them on my own for 2 days a week. How on earth do some of you manage it all the time?!?!?!!?

HUUUUUGE admiration to those managing to bf with 2 little ones though - I'm afraid I gave up at about 6 weeks as I couldn't cope with juggling the constant feeding of ds2 with the needs of ds1. We're all much happier now though!

alicet · 08/12/2007 13:52

(whispers very quietly) I have a cleaner too!

(runs away at the embarrassment of being a spoilt cow who has a cleaner, ds1 in nursery 3 days a week, couldn't hack the bf and STILL thinks its hard work!)

You have 2 under 3 justabout and you're broody?!!!? What is wrong with you woman!!

rony · 08/12/2007 18:14

hi guys. just when I thought this 2 under 2 business was getting easier, they are now both teething at the same time, aaagh!

dd now whiny and grizzly all day and ds waking 3 or 4 times a night again after a single glorious week of him sleeping through for the first time ever (knew it was too good to last..)

alice I have a cleaner too (living in South Africa) but moving back to the UK in March and really panicking about how I will ever get any housework done at all..

lulalullabye · 08/12/2007 19:41

I have to admit, dd1 is in nursery all day monday and friday. Whatever dd2 throws at me on those days is no sweat !

Justabout, now dd2 has settled a little more, I do now think I may have another but not for at least 2-3 years.

Alicet, contemplating cleaner !

alicet · 08/12/2007 21:04

lulalullaby you're so right - the baby on their own is a piece of piss!!! I wish I had known this when ds1 was little!!

rony feel for you! big hugs and virtual vats of calpol winging their way to south africa!

windowcleaner · 08/12/2007 21:08

I had 3 under 3 for a few months and I do know how you feel. Not much consolation now but I promise it does get better, and to see them growing up together and having playmates on hand is wonderful. Hang on in there. Mine are 3 under 5 now and the wine is still flowing!!

alicet · 08/12/2007 21:10

windowcleaner truely you must be superwoman!

Agree though that despite my moaning (which is in jest of course) I deliberately wanted to have 2 close together for exactly the reasons you describe. Already watching ds1 being affectionate to his little brother is really heart warming.

Still need the wine though!

cazboldy · 08/12/2007 21:11

Hi I didn't know this thread existed!
I have a 8 month old dd and a ds of 23 months
( and a 7 year old dd and a 6 year old ds and an 11 year old ds!)
will have a read through the thread later, but just wanted to put my name on the list and say hello!

windowcleaner · 08/12/2007 21:22

ahh, but the last two were twins...so I'm not really that clever!

chirpygirl · 08/12/2007 21:38

HI, can I come in?
I have 2 dd's, one 22 months and one 8 weeks.
I was up at half 5 this morning when DD1 decided to start screeching, so I brought her into bed with me, but forgot that toddlers have no concept of whispering so DD2 was awake then and wanted feeding, then DD1 wanted to cuddle her....
This went on for 2 hours and then DD1 started crying again at half 7 cos she wanted breakfast and that is the point DH decides to come upstairs after passing out on teh sofa last night as he 'could hear screaming and wanted to check I was okay.'

Sorry, rant over! What winds me up is when DD2 cries and DH just holds her up pathetically and looks at me to rescue him, just because she is BF doesn't mean he can't try and shut her up too!

Having said all that, I do love how sweet DD1 is to DD2, the first thing she says in the morning is 'where baby?' and then when she sees her 'Hello pretty baby, you okay?'

Morning all. Well, dd still away having a good time with friends . dd1 woke at 2.30 for her milk and then proceeded to wake dd1 up. She then would not go back to sleep and ended upo coming into bed with me. She was strictly told to close eyes and go to sleep and believe it or not she did.

Chirpy, I love the pretty baby thing. All we get is wakey baby as she wants to wake dd2 up.

Good thing is that dd1 has just piled all dd2's toys on her bouncy chair, nice !

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 09/12/2007 12:47

hello all
everyone in nemo household is full of cold today...,ust admit I keep feeling a bit broody but will wait a little longer I think. I have ds who is 4.2yrs, dd1 is 2 next sund and dd1 is 11mths. It is a lot easier now then 6mths ago although they do tend to teethe at the same time. Both girls are starting nursery for one morning and one afternoon a week from tommorow although dont think dd2 will settle as she has just screamed the whole time on induciton sessions.

rony · 09/12/2007 12:51

yes doesn't it just melt your heart when they're all sweet to each other. sometimes my two have special brother and sister moments where they're just beaming at each other, like they're in their own little world together. Bet they're plotting what mischief they can get up to next...

justabout - we're in Pretoria. seems like all the other expats are in Cape Town though - nobody ever comes here!

chirpygirl · 09/12/2007 14:54

Afternoon all, Managed a lie in this morning until 8am with DD1, it's unfortunate DD2 screamed last night until midnight and then again for an hour at 6am.....I just hope and pray it was a one off!
It's DH's birthday today and he was down the pub with his mate while I was putting them down for a nap, but DD2 wouldn't stop screaming, which meant DD1 wouldn't sleep! How do you cope with getting the older one down for a nap?!
I shot myself in teh foot while pregnant by napping with her on the sofa as I couldn't carry her upstairs and now she has to be cuddled to sleep every day! I'm such an idiot!

(Luckily DH has come home and taken her upstairs for a sleep before we go to his mates later!)

lulalullabye · 09/12/2007 15:04

See, here is the perfect family. Dh in pub 200 miles away, wife sitting in kitchen on computer, whilst dd1 eats fruit and fibre (dry) next to her and dd2 sleeps in cot, in car seat cause thats the only way for her to get a decent sleep during the day.

Dd1 didn't sleep today, calm at the mo but wait till the witching hour. No baths tonight just throw them in bed !!

chirpygirl · 09/12/2007 15:10

Nice Lula!

DD1 always napped downstairs but when I was pregnant every one started telling me to take her upsatirs. I tried it for a few weeks but it was so knackering, plsu I didn't fancy going up and down while I had a newborn to deal with as well. DD2 is currently fast asleep in the pram down here with me but she has screamed most of the morning as well so is shattered, and we have to go out in 20 minutes so I have to wake DD1 up, it is not going to be pretty!

and DD1 loves those raisin filled shredded wheats things dry, icksville!

lulalullabye · 09/12/2007 15:15

Raisins, there must be something with them. dd1 started eating so many that got rid of the little boxes and went for industrial sized catering packs. Just have to remember to really clean her teeth twice a day as so sugary. She seems to be weaning herself off them at the mo, apart from the ones in the fruit and fibre.

Hope everybody elses sunday is going well and they are doing something exciting.

chirpygirl · 09/12/2007 20:17

Ooh, we got invited out to one of DH's mates house this afternoon which was really nice, DD's behaved perfectly and I got fed!
Dh's mates girlfriend has a 4 month old and was really impressed that I changed DD2 on my lap without paying much attention, left her unnattended (with other adults) on the playmat and left the room to get DD1 and generally did mostly benign neglect as she finds it hard to put her DS down....I remember those days with DD1!

My poor NSB!

Ooh Baileys latte, is that just baileys in coffee (have this Christmas mid morning, but haven't been able to drink for last 3 Christmas's - ill, pregnant, pregnant) or do you do something else to it?

Sorry, slightly distracted by alcohol talk. Just had a lovely Sunday with my dh and girls, meeting up with my sister and her dh in Salisbury, felt very Christmassy, and bought lovely Pippi Longstocking book for dd1 (well me really, but for dd1 in the future!). Dd1 really pooped by the time we got home, so went to bed without the usual screaming every time I leave the room routine.

I love how dd1 and dd2 are with each other, especially now they are in the same room. Dd2 coos and gurgles in the morning and dd1 just says her name over and over, giggling like an idiot. But I know what you mean about those looks, Rony, sometimes I have a vision of the future where they are both ganging up on me (like I say, I have a sister!)

Lula, do you actually manage to clean your dd's teeth!? I can just about poke the end of the toothbrush in her mouth, whilst she hoovers up the toothpaste. She did grab the toothpaste off me once, squeeze half of the tube in her mouth, gag and vomit all over the floor - I figure she must have ingested so much fluoride that she is covered for the next few years at least.

Chirpygirl, you've just made me very grateful that we lived in a bungalow when I was pregnant with dd2, it was bad enough that dd1 hadn't started walking, let alone dealing with stairs. And I seem to have lost dd1's daytime nap, unless it's in the bottom of the changing bag with all the old raisins, breadstick crumbs and single baby socks.

BTW its Hazeyjane, but making a sad attempt in the Christmas name change competition

soph28 · 09/12/2007 22:14

I think that before anyone has their first baby they should borrow 2 under 2 for a weekend, they will then realise what a piece of piss one small baby is and will enjoy it all so much more.

I'm actually thinking having the third will be easier than when I had no.2 - am I MAD?
It's just the older two will have each other, they will both be walking, it will be summer, the baby will be very portable and in August DS and DD will be in nursery/playgroup for 2.5 hours every morning (and hopefully the baby will nap in that time so I will have ME time...apart from all the cooking, cleaning, shopping, tidying, washing, gardening, tidying, cleaning, cooking...did I say that?).

Rudolphthehazeyjanedeer · 09/12/2007 22:59

I don't know if it was just me, but I don't think anything was as hard as coming home with dd1, it was so hugely lifechanging, and although the first months with dd2 have been knackering, I don't think they have been as hard. So hopefully you're right Soph28, and it will be even easier with number 4,5,6...
