We were at the park today, my 2 1/2 year old found a stick and swung it and said: Look mummy, I'm fishing.

It put such a smile on my face, the imaginative is properly starting now.

What about you? Xx

My 14 yo DS set his alarm for 4am because he wanted to see the sunrise. Yes he’s been a grumpy, knackered sod all day as a result, but I did think it was sweet.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/09/2021 20:42

DS2 (15) was stood next to me, being annoying, while I was cooking and a single drop of boiling water splashed from the pan and landed on his thigh.
He fell the the ground, rolling round in agony and saying he would have to text his coach and not play in his first match of the season tomorrow.
That made me laugh. HmmGrin

Got DD (3yo) out the bath, wrapped her in a towel- she smiled at me and then gave me a big wet hug and said "oh I really love you mummy".

It's been a trying week, I'm tired and grumpy and her behaviour has been questionable, but that made me smile.

Chilver · 04/09/2021 21:01

We were walking into a pub garden to meet family and haven't seen them in a long long time. My 9yo, talking about her 18yo cousins and how they used to play with her when she was little and now have just finished A levels and are off to uni, turned to me and with a world weary shake of the and voice said 'they grow up so fast' It really made me smile 😃

In the car with 2 year old daughter asleep next to her older sister, who was grumpy about something and shouted "everyone hates me!" 2yo briefly opens her eyes and mumbles "I don't hate you Anna" and went back to sleep Grin

avidteadrinker · 04/09/2021 21:05

My 2yo DS running laps of the living room and on each lap running into my arms for giggles and cuddle before I let him go round again for another go!

crayray · 04/09/2021 21:10

Took DS3 to a summer fete and he and his best friend were wandering around holding hands (without prompting) 🤗

I love this!

This is a lovely thread.

DS1 (14) took himself to parkrun today for the first time. He ran all the way there as he left late and then carried on running as it had already started. He had his barcode with him but had forgotten it was in his pocket by the end so didn't even get a time. He came home just after 10am smelling like he'd actually had some exercise, he doesn't normally get sweaty as he doesn't like to make too much effort.

QforCucumber · 04/09/2021 21:28

Ds1 (5) asked me tonight at bedtime 'why have you failed me mummy?'

Obviously I was more than a bit WTF??!!

'You failed me and daddy, we wanted hot chocolates but you forgot to buy marshmallows and whipped cream at the shops, it is autumn you know' Grin

Cartwheelemoji · 04/09/2021 21:32

I pretended to sprinkle ‘magic sparkling sleepy dust’ on my 4yo DD at bedtime as she wasn’t going to sleep. She rolled over and said; ‘I’m sprinkling dust on you too mummy. From the floor.’

Thanks pal

BoneWithTheWind · 04/09/2021 21:36

I was emptying the drawers and wiping them down with my 18mo DS in the room; I turned around to see him grabbing one of the cloths and proceeding to wipe with a proud expression on his face.. :-) I love the copy-cat phase in children!

BoneWithTheWind · 04/09/2021 21:39

@QforCucumber - this is legendary!! Grin

Angrymum22 · 04/09/2021 21:45

My DS 16 tried on his suit ready for 6th form. It doesn’t seem 2 mins since he first started school and now he’s on the cusp of becoming a man.

NigellaSeed · 04/09/2021 21:45

@Clarkey86

My 4 year old tried to blow up a beach ball and farted.
Best MN post of the day.
nc5698 · 04/09/2021 21:45

DDs 3 and 2 begged me to let them sleep in the same bed this evening for a "sleepover". They've become such good buddies over the summer and it melts my heart ♥️

soupmaker · 04/09/2021 21:48

DD13 and me in the car doing supermarket shop. She tells me all about the book swaps she's got going with her friend and tells me how she'd love a cassette recorder so she could make "mix tapes". Told me about C90's with 45 minutes music on each side. Made me smile as I'm 50 so know all about cassettes! And we have some in the loft.

DD8 did a perfect dive at swimming lesson. She was so delighted with herself.

QforCucumber · 04/09/2021 21:49

@BoneWithTheWind he was so bloody serious, I was racking my brain what on earth I could have done that was so bad 🤦‍♀️

Msfoxy17 · 04/09/2021 21:49

My DD (nearly 4) is going through a phase where she likes me to lie down next to her for a bit before she is almost ready to drop off.
Tonight she took my hands and held them tight and said "Give me your hands, Mummy, so I don't lose you".
It was one of many adorable things she said today (I love this age!)

Lovely thread Smile

My 11 year old DS and I went out for brunch today, and I had such a lovely time with him. He was chatting to the cafe owner and being so kind and mature.

BoneWithTheWind · 04/09/2021 21:59

@QforCucumber - I can imagine... It's the choice of words as well - "Failed"..? is such a serious tone!

drspouse · 04/09/2021 22:10

We went to a local aquarium for the first time since lockdown. My two were SO EXCITED (and loud, but not many there). DS has been pretty miserable for a while (his ADHD meds have been making him quite low but we adjusted the dose and he's a lot better).
I remembered them when they were little loving the aquarium too 😍

atz333 · 04/09/2021 22:10

My 9 month old was falling asleep in her cot. She reached for me and I put my hand through. She held it with one hand and stroked it with the other as she fell asleep. I smiled (and shed a little tear). She's our surprise baby and I feel so fortunate to have her.

Also today my 14 and 11 year old helped me clear out our under the stairs/pantry area. They didn't argue or complain and it was nice to work together. We sat down to watch a movie together afterwards and all cuddled up together.

sar302 · 04/09/2021 22:12

DH and I were away last night and until late today. Didn't think we'd see DS3 until tomorrow morning. We snuck a peak into his room and he sat bolt up right, gasped and shouted "mummy and daddy are here! Mummy and daddy are here!" And hugged himself with glee.
