Bathing a six month old

Ds is six months and is a bit too big for his baby bath but not big enough for the big bath! He also doesn’t really like his bath seat. Any suggestions?

We still used the Angelcare bath support in the main bath at this age, amazing purchase!

We had one of these it was great! At around 12 months we just switched to a non-slip clear bath matt so he can play around with his bath toys

That’s the one he doesn’t like here hopefully he will when he’s older!

Can he sit up? If so, use a mat in the bath we have a skiphop one. I read some horror stories about the swivel seats.

Not reliably. He is liable to go to one side especially when he’s tired.

I only ever bathed babies in the sink or the big bath. What is the extra equipment for?

He can’t reliably sit up in the big bath. Therefore he would fall and go under the water. No big deal obviously

But why would he fall if you are with him and supporting him through the whole bath? My ds has been bathed in the big bath since a few months old. Have shallow water, they can lay down in it, give them a wash and then get them out?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

emma because I would be kneeling in front of the bath holding onto a slippery wet baby. Not very safe or comfortable for either of us.

For the interim stage between shnuggle and big bath with bath mat we bought a £10 one from tesco that is like a mini actually bath so it helped him practice sitting without risking him drowning if he slipped. Only used it for about 2 months but for a tenner it was worth it.

My 91st centile 7 month old still fits in the shnugglebath. I also use a bath seat when bathing her with my toddler but the shnugglebath is so much quicker to fill when it’s just her. Is your baby bath definitely too small? My friend has a giant inflatable duck thing for going in the bath which could also be worth a try. Something like this:

Just put a couple of inches of water in the bath and lay them down. Mine were both bathed like this from about 10 weeks old until they could sit up reliably. I don’t understand how a baby can be too small for a bath, surely you just vary the amount of water?

Agree, just fill the bath to a very shallow level, and have a plastic cup that they can chew to pour the water over them to keep cosy.

None of mine would sit in that seat thing. I always remember a story about someone local to me who left her baby because she thought he was safe in it, and he slipped and got his head trapped in it and drowned.

I’ve explained why welsh. I wouldn’t be able to see him without kneeling down and sticking my head over the side and I don’t think he’d like having his head on a hard surface. He wants to be sat up but can’t quite manage independently. I’ve ordered an angelcare seat anyway so thank you for that

You don’t have to support them, just lie them in the bottom of the bath and let them kick about! I think you’re being a bit precious. Anyway, you seem to have a solution that will work for you.

Tbh, I used my sons baby bath for ages, even when he was arguably too big for it.

He didn't sit unaided until 7 months, but once he was too long to lie in the baby bath I just held him upright with one hand and washed him with the other.

The baby bath we had, had a great no slip base so he was pretty secure.

That’s really basic.

No suggestions for right now (we used her baby bath till 12 months old!) But incase of use in future..... now we use a bath divider in the main bath so we only fill half the tub. Works really well, so quick to fill.
