Pettiest parenting pet peeves?

What's the pettiest thing that annoys you about other parents? Something that you know is so pathetic to care about but it really grinds your gears?

Mine is probably when people say they're doing 'a bit of traditional weaning and a bit of baby led weaning' - you can't half do BLW... traditional weaning is purees AND finger foods, BLW is your child ALWAYS feeding themselves regular food.

So petty, I wish I could let go of it, but I internally eye roll every time.

The eternal one up-man-ship, regardless of the actual topic..............Hmm

If my baby got their 1st tooth at 4 mths, then their baby got their 1st tooth at 2 mths !

Gets on my wick every......single.............time ! because it never ends ffs !

My kids are now adults, and it's still a bloody 'competition' to some people I know Shock i.e If my DD got into Uni, their DD got into a better one !

Will it never end ????

BeanyBops · 22/06/2021 10:31

Using baby language. I'll say "look, there's a dog!" and a friend of mine will say to her daughter "look, there's a woof woof'"

suziedoozy · 22/06/2021 10:35

All of the above!!

Also being lectured about how my child should watch TV..... I don’t judge people for using whatever tech they want to so why does my not using it seem to be such an issue??

When mine were toddlers, it was friends with boys going on about how active boys were and how much exercise you had to give them...

As I was taking my DDs out for their third or fourth walk of the day....

Girls need just as much exercise!

Getawriggleon · 22/06/2021 10:43

The BLW thing drives me mad too OP.

"Gentle hands" after someone else's kid has just smacked mine. It doesn't work.

People who are proud of having a top weight/height centile child like it's something they've done. I've got two tall kids but it's because their dad is tall not because they ate some vegetables. It's genetics.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/06/2021 10:53

The BLW brigade ramming it down other peoples throats at the slight mention of weaning. You used to see it on here a lot.

Same with 'cloth bums'.

Squiblet · 22/06/2021 11:17

People saying, ad infinitum, 'Enjoy it while it lasts! The time goes so quickly!' Or, 'They grow up so fast, don't they?!'

No. No, they don't, and no it doesn't.

Same with 'enjoy the cuddles' when they're newborn. NO FUCK OFF I JUST WANT A SECOND TO MYSELF.
GreenCrayon · 22/06/2021 11:22

For any parent who has ever had a late walker. The phrase 'enjoy it whilst it lasts, when they can walk you won't get to sit down'.

It's like they think that because the child isn't walking they are just sitting there like a sack of spuds. The fact they can still butt shuffle, crawl, cruise, climb and get into exactly the same amount of mischief as a walking child completely passes them by. Hmm

Seriously79 · 22/06/2021 11:51

Kids appetites!

'My Ds who is 9 months can eat 2 whole weetabix for breakfast'

Well don't you think that's a bit excessive when that's what's recommended for a grown adult 🤷‍♀️

Seriously79 · 22/06/2021 11:52

Thought of another

Allergies - it seems to be the coolest thing now if you kid has an intolerance to something.

Bksjshsbbev2737 · 22/06/2021 11:55

Hmm sorry to say it but it’s when people tell me that I didn’t do baby led weaning just because I spoon fed a yoghurt a few times.
Pretty much also someone with one child who then tells you to do exactly what they did as it made their baby sleep through/eat well/walk earlier/speak earlier without considering that all babies are different and just because it worked for one child doesn’t mean it’ll work for all.

GreenCrayon · 22/06/2021 11:58

I know someone like this. Her firstborn toddler is an early walking, talking genius who slept through from only a few weeks old and she brags about it all constantly.

As horrid as it sounds every part of me desperately wanted her to have another so she can see how perfect her child is has absolutely nothing to do with her superior parenting.

Eileen101 · 22/06/2021 12:01

@seriously79 - how are intolerances/allergies seeking to be 'the coolest thing'? My second child is allergic to three foods, unfortunately pretty major foods. This is my first foray into allergies as we have no family history of it. I tell people who need to know in case they, you know, give her something that will have her in agony with a swollen tummy and shitting green for 24 hours. If I don't mentioned it e.g. to friends or similar, they enquire as to the new addition of non cows milk to our house/cafe visit/restaurant visit and it comes up in conversation.
Raising awareness of allergies/intolerances is hugely important not because someone wants to be 'cool'.

NerrSnerr · 22/06/2021 12:01

I think many people say they did a mix of BLW and traditional weaning because of the fear of judgment from people who are evangelical about BLW if they say they don't do it.

Ozanj · 22/06/2021 12:02

I work in a nursery that has it’s meal plans reviewed by a NHS dietician. BLW by it’s official definition is only appropriate while the baby is drinking 500ml milk per day as 90% of the food is everywhere except inside the baby. If they are drinking less then you absolutely do need to complement with traditional weaning until they get used to feeding themselves properly. Generally, bar SEN, a BLW baby becomes efficient at feeding themselves by 8-9 months; but it can take longer too.

legalseagull · 22/06/2021 12:03

Anyone who puts a label on how they raise their kids - "gentle parenting". Bloody ridiculous. What are the rest of us then? Rough parenting? Just crack on and shut up

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 22/06/2021 12:03

I keep bumping into this whole 'mum of boys' thing on social media, hashtag, memes, movement, whatever its called. I've just seen one with girls having a lovely picnic vs boys in a scene from jurassic park. Really irritates me. My girl has has been way harder than my boy so far. But it's just because she's an awkward sod, nothing to do with gender! Plus she's like a walking encyclopaedia of dinosaur knowledge.

Ozanj · 22/06/2021 12:04

No, I think it’s because BLW prevents choking as babies become more comfortable with a wide variety of foods and used to testing their gag reflex. That is why most baby related choking incidents occur with spoon fed babies during spoon feeding / first intro to finger foods.
Strawberries4days · 22/06/2021 12:04

When people tell me "shouldn't your DD be sleeping through the night?" In other words 7pm-7am with no wake ups.

Nope but she's still a pretty good sleeper to me, considering she's only 8 months.

Gets on my nerves everytime someone says it to me🙈

Aozora13 · 22/06/2021 12:04

This is reeeeeeeeally petty but when people talk about their EBF 9 month old I sincerely hope they are not literally exclusively breastfed and do in fact have solids and even other things to drink. I need to get a life…

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 22/06/2021 12:05

Also what the heck is a Crunchy mama...

Lol tells me they didn’t put enough milk in!!
Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/06/2021 12:07

I knew this thread would bring out the BLW evangelists.....

Its just a weird defence mechanism thing, that feels like those who love it seem to feel they have to explain/defend/recommend it the entire time like nobody knows what it is.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/06/2021 12:08

Someone that needs to wash her underwear more often??
