Who is awake? Just wondering why?

I am awake as my 20 month old DS has severe croup, he is in distressed, breathing rapidly with whistling sound. Barking cough every 5 mins. Have been trying to call 111, they said someone would call within 30 mins, 1 hour gone, no one called. So upsetting. He is been crying and half asleep. I want to do something but can't. Helpless. Sad

Sounds awful. Take him into the bathroom and run the shower. Steam is easier to breath in when they have croup.

I’m just up feeding my toddler.

AndroidsAliensAndWizards · 28/05/2021 02:18

I don't think you're supposed to put them in a steamy room anymore. I know it used to be what was advised but I've seen people advise against it and it looks like it's changed now.

I've attached a screenshot of the nhs website.

And I'm up because I have a thumping headache.

I have tried doing that. It didn't help. Unfortunately. Was just wondering do we need to ring 111 back as i haven't heard from them yet after 1.5 hours.

Oh poor baby. I'd call again tbh.
I'm awake because insomnia is a bitch Grin

crosspelican · 28/05/2021 02:27

I’m up having a panic attack. Went to bed exhausted at 12 & lay here getting progressively worse until 2 & now just scrolling. Hating myself for ruining another day (tomorrow).

DulcetMoans · 28/05/2021 02:28

Sorry your boy is suffering. I would probably call back after a couple of hours if things were still bad and hadn't been followed up.

I'm up because of the baby too. His temp is 39 degrees and he's a hot little thing. Given some calpol but he's just sad now and struggling to go back to sleep. Husband has just taken him downstairs to try get him to sleep but I can hear that's not going well.

hotcrosswhat · 28/05/2021 02:29

@Fairlight99 I'm sorry your DS is unwell Sad

I'm awake because I've just fed my newborn DS and can't get back to sleep Confused

DFWM · 28/05/2021 02:29

My son used to get croup a lot. I found driving him with the window down helped a lot! He needed hospitalising often to be given steroids, but a lot of the time his breathing would have massively improved by the time we got to the hospital.

Hope he gets better soon!

I'm up as I'm recovering from surgery and my sleeping pattern is all over the place due to the pain killers knocking me out!

Jellybellythatsme · 28/05/2021 02:29

Dd wet the bed so I’m sorting that while she’s snoozing in my bed

CheshireAxe · 28/05/2021 02:32

I'm up because of my anxiety. Fear of AZ vaccine fear of getting fat and unhappy about my weight
Wondering how I'm ever going to fit in exercise because I'm constantly shattered from anxiety or dealing with diabetic son at night or old dog needing another pass in the night. Contemplating professional help free from work.

Poorlykitten · 28/05/2021 02:33

I’m awake and I would definitely try ringing again. Hope he’s seen soon, it’s very distressing listening to croup. I’m having bizarre heart palpitations but think it’s linked to menopause symptoms. Oh the joy. 😂

waltzingparrot · 28/05/2021 02:33

I'm up with DS16! Haven't been woken in the middle of the night by the children for years, but he got himself badly sunburnt at school sports day and is suffering.

Insomnia is hell. My sister had insomnia. But somehow she is managing on her own. I hope you get your good sleep back.

I’m up because I’m worrying about a work mistake. Not sleeping isn’t going to help my difficult day tomorrow!

I hope you hear from 111 soon Flowers

Boomisshiss · 28/05/2021 02:47

I stupidly fell asleep on the sofa for three hours this afternoon and can’t sleep

Blacktothepink · 28/05/2021 02:48

Body clock mayhem after a week of night shifts 😩

Covetthee · 28/05/2021 03:13

My baby has silent reflux and has to be held up most of the night so no sleep here

ditsyprint · 28/05/2021 03:39

Woke up with sore arm and temp, vaccine side effects, taken paracetamol and that's settled now. Can't get back to sleep though. This time last week I miscarried. I feel so incredibly sad.

Hope your little one feels better soon op xx

Mylittlepony374 · 28/05/2021 03:46

sorry for your loss ditsyprint.
I'm awake because my toddlers been screaming for last two hours. He's sick. Calpol not touching it. Finally calmed him with the iPad. He's here watching Peppa Pig and I'm trying to nap next to him unsuccessfully.
OP my little one was in hospital for croup recently and they said kids often improve before they get there as they've been out in cold air and it helps. So doctor said wrap them up and take them outside if they're really bad, or open a window in the room even. I see pp said about car drive with windows down so probably same principle.
I hope you get through, it's horrible seeing them croupy.

Nightowlalways · 28/05/2021 03:56

I have had my first night without my two year old tonight and I can’t sleep I wink. I’ve not even been to bed!! Typical.

doritodiva · 28/05/2021 04:01

Hope little one is better soon. I'm up with my two month old who had silent reflux so I have to keep up after a feed but he also has a cold and is very congested. So I'm not getting any sleep anyway.

Moules · 28/05/2021 04:03

Feeling sorry reading some of these stories tonight. I hope you all get some resolution for your problems. I’m up because my DS (16 months) wakes around this time every night and comes into our bed. I can then never get to sleep again, until 7am when the rest of the house suddenly wakes up!

jellybe · 28/05/2021 04:05

Your poor boy Hope he's feeling better soon. I'm up because DS had a nose bleed and now he's back asleep as is everyone else and my brain won't switch off again.
