What age did your little boy stand up to wee?

Just that really. He's 3 and a bit. Nursery asked if he stood up to wee. I thought boys that age all sat down. If he stands on his step, he'll barely be big enough to get his penis over the toilet. 🤷‍♀️
Please share with me the age at which your littlies managed it.

Mine has started just gone 4. He starts school in September. He does a mixture of stand up and down.

We bought a child's urinal from a shop on ebay.It looked like a frogs face:) it really helped ds potty training.He loved it because he could be like his dad.

I honestly can't remember. It just happened, when they decided to copy their dad. Older than 3 though, I'm certain.

Toilet trained at 2... He’s always stood up. Tried to get him to sit down but he wasn’t having it.

I’m a single mum, raised by a single mum in a family with no boy children for 60 years (DS was the first)... so had no idea this was noteworthy?!

He was 5. He is on the short side and couldn't quite aim into the toilet before that and also quite liked having a sit down on the toilet so he could ponder life and have a sing song. We tried to encourage the stand up wee with copying his daddy and bought the frog faced urinal. I had to get rid of that when my then 8yr old daughter had a wee in it because she thought it was funny.

He started school at 4.5yrs old and it took another 6 months before he mastered the stand up wee. He was jealous of his friends who could do it without weeing on their shoes. He wasn't the last one to do it - he used to take great delight in telling me who was still doing sit down wees.

This was once a hotly debated topic in our house, I'm not obsessed with the urination habits of small boys.

Sounds impressive to me, some quite serious motor skills involved there 🤣

Never sat down - started potty training in the summer in the garden. He was the only one at pre school to do so. You aren’t alone!

Never thought to teach him to sit

Tbh mines 7 and he sit down wees still but so does his dad at home. Im not a fan of toilet seats up and sprinkled with wee. He can do it stood up but hes not overly co ordinated doing it

We also have the little frog urinal so mine has stood up to wee from two ( he loves it 🤣)

I’m also a single mum and my 2 year old son has never sat down to pee, his preference, I’m not going to fight it.

@Calmyertits luckily the man in the house is very well trained and has never left the toilet seat up, nor does he wee anywhere but in the toilet. He's quite skilled at squatting a bit so the toilet is closer to the stream of urine. I don't fancy my chances with a three year old and can't be doing with cleaning the floor all the time, come to think of it.

So on that basis and the wide ranging responses on here I don't think we will rush it.

Why would you teach them to stand up? They just piss all over the floor, keep them sitting down.. ( never understood this one.. bleugh!)

My boys stand up out of the house but sit down inside, can't face the mess.

10 year old stands, 8 year old sits at home but can stand and use urinals if our., 5 year old always sits. Tbh I just let them wee however they want as long as it goes where it is meant to go!

9yo has never done a stand-up wee in the toilet afaik. 7yo will do it any time he's left alone in the bathroom, then I walk in & find the puddle. He lacks any sort of coordination, is quite short & never remembers to lift the seat. DH & I have had many conversations about the relative merits of standing vs sitting. DH insists they need to know how to do it, I'm unconvinced. Men's toilets have cubicles that could be used instead of urinals & neither of them have ever had a problem doing outside wees when necessary. Part of my job involves cleaning toilets so I might be a bit biased, having seen how some adult men still haven't mastered the use of urinals. Why can't they all just sit on toilets like women do & stop leaving puddles for me to mop?!

I've 3 boys and they all stood from the start. I never thought to get them to sit 🤷

I was adamant mine would sit but he was having none of it and insisting on standing before 3. This was annoying for public toilets because I'd have to hold him up, or he'd stand on my shoes. He somehow doesn't hold it, and never misses or gets it on the seat tbf .

Husband 51, boys 21 and 18, all sit down. Only pee standing if in a public loo. They have had to clean bathrooms from an early age so figured that the target practice was not worth the clean up. Urinals are higher than a home loo, so less messy. Sorry, no help for the littlies tho!.

Still very messy at 4.5. I get him to sit when out because I don’t fancy being on my hands and knees mopping up a puddle in a public toilet.
