How often do you bath you child?

My DD is 6. I've always bathed her daily (she tends to do it herself now) but now only washed her hair once or twice per week....

A few weeks ago she was at GP about something else and I mentioned her dry skin on her arms has been itchy and bothering her and asked for advice on something to use.

GP seemed to think daily bathing was unnecessary and could be making it worse.
Just wondered what everyone else does as I've never really thought about it before?

We bath our daughter daily. She's one. It's part of her bedtime routine.

Ducksarenotmyfriends · 13/04/2021 07:13

Daily baths seem excessive for a child to me. I only shower every other day (unless I've done exercise) as it's bad for my skin otherwise. It varies with dd as she does love a bath, but usually 1 to 3 times a week.

PawPatrolGalore · 13/04/2021 07:14

3 year old, every 2-3 days (gets bad eczema too, any more than that causes his skin to dry out and flair up). 9 and 11 year old are daily, they’ve both reached the age where they’re climbing trees, running around in the mud, coming in covered in grass cuttings and pretty much smell not that great by the end of the day. I bath daily, but I’ve a frizzy rats nest so I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week before it becomes unmanageable.

Bath LO everyday, I shower everyday.

SquigglePigs · 13/04/2021 07:18

Two year old here and every couple of days. She has baby excema and daily bathing definitely doesn't help. We've always done bath time as a fun play time so it's never been part of her bedtime routine.

OolieMacdoolie · 13/04/2021 07:18

I bath my baby every day as it’s part of his bedtime routine, but he has good skin. Daily washing can be drying, especially if using soap, so it might help your daughter to go every other day.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 13/04/2021 07:19

I thought no bathing every day is fine IF it doesn't affect your skin, but for your daughter maybe try every three days. I found coconut oil the best thing for dry skin after trying a dozen other creams and potions!

DS is 4 and showers daily. DD is only 8 weeks so maybe one bath a week if she needs it I remember

whiteshark · 13/04/2021 07:24

Every day.

Itlod1982 · 13/04/2021 07:24

Thanks everyone!!
It hadn't crossed my mind not to wash her/her her to wash herself every day for some reason!! But def sounds like it's worth a try!

Couple of times a week, after pe days at school.

RachelRavenRoth · 13/04/2021 07:27

2-3 times a week.

breadbinbaby · 13/04/2021 07:31

Twice a week - she has bad eczema too and I’m struggling to get it under control. The only thing that helps is steroid cream which I know isn’t great for them long term.

Cornishmumofone · 13/04/2021 07:34

DD has eczema so she has a bath 1-2 times a week. It's been the same since she was a baby (she's now 4).

Mumoblue · 13/04/2021 07:35

Every other day.
Sensitive skin runs in the family, my own dermatologist told me to shower every other day too otherwise I basically turn into a scaly lizard person.

Oly4 · 13/04/2021 07:36

Every day, my kids get dirty as we’re out and about a lot

YawnyOwl · 13/04/2021 07:38

Once a week or two for DS... If I miss one week I give him a warm water flannel bath instead. He HATES baths and has dry skin, so double trouble
Me... Every other day (or two). Also crap skin...

GroggyLegs · 13/04/2021 07:38

It used to be every night as part of the routine, but now they're both at school, my two probably shower twice a week.

LST · 13/04/2021 07:39

When they were little I did but now they're 7 and 9 they shower every other

00deed1988 · 13/04/2021 07:39

Used to be daily but eczema flared up all the time and we tried every cream going. So cut down on baths to 2-3 a week and it near enough went within a week and never flared back again. Several years later and still nothing. Will probably up the baths when puberty strikes though!

HazeyJaneII · 13/04/2021 07:40

Dd2 used to bath every day as part of her eczema routine - oilatum in the bath and cream regime afterwards, it really helped her skin. This drifted off a bit as she got older, but recently (she is 14 now) she has had a flare up of eczema and has restarted a regime, but half the time it is showers (with Dermol to wash) and baths (with oilatum).
Dd1 would have lived in the bath as a child, and now at 15 still would.
Ds on the other hand hates baths with an intensity and it has taken years to get to the point of a weekly bath.

Indoctro · 13/04/2021 07:41

4 and 6 year old boy get a shower about every 4/5 days unless for any reason they are smelly

As a child I bathed once a week in a Sunday, I think daily is excessive and bad for your skin.

Rosehassometoes · 13/04/2021 07:43

1-2 times a week

moomin11 · 13/04/2021 07:43

Only once or twice a week for my DD, same age. More often in the summer or if she's been swimming.

PawPatrolGalore · 13/04/2021 07:43

@breadbinbaby have you tried oatmeal baths? I know it’s an old wives tale but it did make a noticeable difference to DS’s eczema when it was so bad he’d not let me near it with cream
