How often do you bath you child?

My DD is 6. I've always bathed her daily (she tends to do it herself now) but now only washed her hair once or twice per week....

A few weeks ago she was at GP about something else and I mentioned her dry skin on her arms has been itchy and bothering her and asked for advice on something to use.

GP seemed to think daily bathing was unnecessary and could be making it worse.
Just wondered what everyone else does as I've never really thought about it before?

one a week here with a hot flannel wash every night before bed!

Twice a week, he's 9yo.

He has always hated the bath and the shower so anything more would be just fucking unbearable!

My dd had dry skin and reducing baths to once every 2-3 days helped a lot.

Tbh I think they might be right. Perhaps have a trial couple of weeks, bathe every other day instead and see if there's an improvement

My 1yo and 2.5yo are bathed together twice a week. The eldest has eczema and washing too much isn't good for his skin.

My children are now 23 and 25. They had a bath every night as part of their bedtime routine. They still shower daily

Daily bathing definitely isn't necessary for kids, but for some it is part of bedtime routine and winding down.

You could alternate doing the bath without the soap, so she's really just sitting in warm water - that won't be as bad for her skin. Then just use soap every other day. It will be the soap that dries the skin, not the water.

You could also use baby oil on her skin when she gets out or put some kind of oil/ moisturiser in the bath.

Thanks everyone! I'll try fewer baths and some of the tips suggested below....not sure my DD will be complaining 😂

My son gets dry skin and sometime eczema so we do every other night, with a flannel wash for face and bits on the non bath nights. Daily baths really flare him up.

2 year old DS is bathed every other other night, he has bad eczema and the GP said try 2-3 times a week; he defo gets a bit too grubby for that but we try!

AegonT · 13/04/2021 17:01

Every other day for our 6 year old as she gets dry skin. We used to bath her daily. Hairwash once a week or if it's dirty, she's been swimming or had hair spray in it.

Watwing · 13/04/2021 18:30

Everyday as recommended by our dermatologist for our sons eczema. With hair washing two-three times a week.

2020newmum · 13/04/2021 18:36

Once every three days for bath and hair wash. He’s just turned 1.

Veryverycalmnow · 13/04/2021 18:48

Every night as part of bedtime routine.
