DS is 6 months and is now confident at sitting up... the only problem is that if he decides to have a poo when he is sitting upright it seems to defy the laws of gravity and head upwards... normally out of the top of his nappy... we've had 2 ruined baby gros already this week.... any suggestions?

We use {whispers} pampers btw... I know reuseable might help but I really couldnt..

Hi

Why could you not use cloth? I found it cured the exploding nappy problem. I only have 1 extra load every 2 days and they are so easy to use. If you are struggling to get them dry you can even bung them in the dryer, as long as you don't do it too often!

Maveta · 09/11/2007 12:01

go ooooon GMM, you so could. do it do it do it

Or have you tried electrical tape wound several times around the top of his nappy?

Maveta · 09/11/2007 12:02

dooooooooo it...

two options:-

  1. reusables
  2. Gaffa Tape

I'd get the washables if I were you

Maveta · 09/11/2007 12:06

go on..try a little disposable user-friendly bumgenuis. you know you want to really..this post is a cry for help

MrsDepp · 09/11/2007 12:16

I am a disposable lady and have never got to grips with this I'm afraid...

But I find I can wash poo out of babygros pretty well, (Persil non-bio + Napisan), use the reusables trick of holding in the loo and flushing to remove the, er, bulk of it if neccessary

As DD(7 mo) has been taking more solids, her poo has got less explosive and more solid, maybe your DS's will too?

imaginewittynamehere · 09/11/2007 12:39

Have you tried going up a size in nappies - I found this helped.

librarianmummy · 09/11/2007 13:09

You could try just using the wraps (i.e the waterproof outerlayer) over disposables to contain the poo. There are several internet sites that sell them - try The Nappy Lady or Babykind.

nappyzone · 09/11/2007 19:31

lol Maveta - you could be on commision lady! shhhhhhhh bg are on sale you know.....

But yes you could try going up a size with your pampers to make the rise higher but generally the lack of elastic at the back wont keep a super poo in unlike some brands over here on the 'cloth dark side'.

Flame · 09/11/2007 19:54

G'wan, you know you want cloth.

I find a 2 part system bomb proof - a nice snuggly nappy to keep most of it in, and then a second layer of wrap to catch any surprise and unlikely escapes?

You can even use disposable liners so you just flush or throw the poo away

You're already washing poo clothes, you may as well wash nappies and not have to worry about stains

geordiemacminx · 09/11/2007 21:40

I might start and look into it... Dp will go mad if I spend a fortune on another "fad" as he puts it

OP posts:
Flame · 09/11/2007 21:41

Not a fad... more an addiction

nappyzone · 09/11/2007 21:52

a darn fine one too - any advise required there are a number of us clothie sellers on the mumsnet small business classifieds thingys - am cr** at doing links but im sure flame will oblige coz shes da wizz of links!

Flame · 09/11/2007 21:53

But if I link it becomes very clear that bumfluff is missing

I'll get it added in the morning, then link

geordiemacminx · 09/11/2007 21:56

That'll be grand thanks.

Roughly how much to get started?

OP posts:
Flame · 09/11/2007 22:01

I would say just get some sort of starter kit (normally about the £40 mark) of a couple of different types of nappies etc and go from there. Either put one together yourself from looking at a few nappies, or go to one of the sites that make them for you.

geordiemacminx · 09/11/2007 22:08

Mmmmmmm and the best site are....... just out of interest of course...

Nappyzone is delightful.

Oi - NZ - come tell her I am delightful too please

Sputnik · 09/11/2007 22:11

You are lucky, mine does this virtually every day. I use a mix of washables and disposables and the washables cope SO much better, give it a try

bodiddly · 09/11/2007 22:13

what make of disposables do you use? I found that tesco own brand were the best .. and coped with things most of the time!

loler · 09/11/2007 23:08

I use a mix of cloth and whatever is on special offer - find cloth never ever have exploded, pampers always explode upwards, tesco's slightly better but the best disposable has been Nature baby (from sainburys/boots).

Never had this problem with dd but have had it with both dss - must be a male thing! Have tried the going up sizes and has had no effect but always worth a try!

Who would have thought 5 years ago that I would be such a poo expert

mummyhill · 10/11/2007 08:31

Bumfluff is a wonderfull site and the owner is very knowledgable about nappies. I use her as a stockist for my freelance independant nappy advising project along with realnappiness who are also lovelrly.

nappyzone · 10/11/2007 09:08

morning! - flame of bumfluff is delightful - lovely in fact . We both are ! Sorry if i was late with that ha ha!!

Flame · 10/11/2007 10:03

Going to do my ad now

Flame · 10/11/2007 10:35

Hurrah!

Did you know that there is a limited number of links you can put in a small business ad?
