Gentle intervention in fights!

I have 2dc, dd4 and DS nearly 2.

They scrap a bit, which I know is normal. DS will do something DD doesn't like and it escalates, she often then grabs at his face, pushes him or pinches.

My question is - what's the best way to intervene in these scraps? I often want to protect DS so much that I pick up/move DD to put her out of reach of him, plonk her somewhere then cuddle upset DS. But that leaves DD being handled less gently than I ideally want and usually crying on her own (same room but apart). I don't want to model rough behaviour to her but I also can't let her hurt DS.

If I don't separate them, they usually keep trying to hit each other.

Any ideas?

Hi there, @Crowsaregreat - we've now moved this over to our Parenting topic where you'll hopefully get some useful advice and support.

Don't have personal experience but the toddler tantrum experts I follow "big little feelings" on Instagram have some posts about sibling fights. Hope it helps.
