Footless sleepsuits

Please help - what am I missing. I have three children and I’ve never once dressed them in a footless sleepsuit. As babies at bedtime they go to sleep in a vest with a sleepsuit over the top and then in a gro bag. Surely in a footless sleepsuit they wouldn’t be as cosy and warm?

Anyway it wouldn’t bother me except I’ve been looking for some nice sleepsuits for my littlest and I keep discounting ones because they don’t have feet. But there are so many like this it makes me think there must be some kind of trick I’m missing? When should they be used?

They don't grow out of them as quickly!

Add socks?

I had some i liked with cuffs that you could roll over the foot to make into a fitted sleep suit or not. Good for spring.

Tall babies with big feet, we wear pyjamas and out socks on in winter

Put tights under, or even better footless tights plus socks

The footed ones are a bit useless as when the feet get small it's uncomfortable and you can't use them anymore. As someone said, footless will last longer

I have a couple and wish we had more but I keep being tempted by the cheap multipacks of, inevitably, footed sleepsuits from the major supermarkets. DD is long for her weight and footless would last way longer. And anyway, except for the coldest nights she just wears a bodysuit under the sleeping bag at night so I don't think feet are that important for warmth at night, we use socks in the day

This is interesting! I’m a FTM and, some months ago now, a load of mums on a group made me feel like a right numpty for still using footed ones after 12 months old. Then a website automatically changed my onesie choice to footless when I ticked 12-18 months for size. I then wondered if there was something I was missing. The only explanation I can think of is that footless onesies are easier to walk in. But, as you say, they don’t really need to walk in PJs. I guess it depends on routine and intended use then. Baffles me too!

Some people use "sleepsuits" as clothing during the day as well as the night, so baby will wear them for being awake, or for short naps. And some places where those babies live can have quite warm/hot weather, especially in Summer, so some people actually find sleepsuits without feet to be a useful addition to baby's wardrobe.

I always cut the feet out of mine I'd tiled floor and hated the DC running in sleepsuits.

My 11 month old is asleep in a footless sleepsuit now. I think the sleepingbag provides the 'coziness'.

They’re useful for my very leggy son! Worn with socks they’re still cosy but don’t cramp his feet. Going to be a pain when he can pull his socks off though.

I wondered this as some people bought us them as presents. I tried one last night instead of his normal sleepsuit under his sleeping bag, and it made no difference to how he slept!!

Some people dress their baby in "sleepsuits" during the day. It is meant to help them walk if they have bare feet.

Or their child likes to eat their feet.

I like them. We have both footed and footless still, but the footless last longer and now Ds is walking make it easier to put non slip socks on him to walk around.

Footless tend to get more wear and if your DS is fairly lean like mine you can use old ones as rompersz

My DC had big feet so it meant they lasted longer.

Agree they last longer especially for the longer of foot. Plus babies don't do that thing where they get their legs stuck in the body part when crawling in footless suits.

Last far longer, feet don't slip on wooden floors, better for fitting over cloth nappies.

Should be fine in a sleeping bag? I used to think that but I joined the Mori sleep club and got sent footless ones. Never had a problem.

Footed all the way here. Footless ones irritate me! As if DD is going to keep socks on with all the wriggling she does during the night.

My son has huge feet, even as a newborn they were too big for the sleep suits and they were uncomfortable. If chilly put socks over but my house never drops below 22/23 so it's not an issue for us personally.

My DDs feet are too big so she outgrew her 12-18 month sleepsuits at 13 months but the rest was huge! However, I switched to pjs instead of footless sleepsuits just because they were cute and easier for changing nappies

I only buy footless sleepsuits for my youngest. I didn't before she was on the move but as soon as she started walking, I changed to them. Much easier to have her tottering about the house than with footed suits.
She's in a sleeping bag for bed.

Thanks all. I’ll admit I hadn’t thought about the sizing advantage even though I’ve had big babies/toddlers, I just always put mine in the next size up. I’ve been reading recently that it’s good for babies to have their feet and hands uncovered as much as possible so they can get the sensory feedback on things they touch etc so maybe I’ll bite the bullet and get one!

Wondersuits! Bit expensive but you get the choice of having feet covered or uncovered

Footless sleep suits are a godsend to babies with some medical conditions. My daughter was born with club feet and she has to wear footless sleep suits as she wears medical boots and bars at night. Personally I can’t seem to find enough of them! x
