Who should buy the car seat?

I'm returning to work from Mat leave soon. Dm offered childcare on 1 week day for a few hours in the afternoon. She is the only childcare we have who drives as DMIL doesn't. We have an integrated isofix car seat in our own car so dropping off to DMIL isn't a problem.
My DM however, has her own car but doesn't have a car seat and will be picking up DS on said day for the afternoon, she has mentioned activities to do together which involves driving somewhere (obviously only once lockdown is lifted).

My question is - who should buy the car seat for her car?

Why don't you just take yours out of your car and let your mum use it for that afternoon?

Otherwise it's your kid, she's giving you free childcare, so you pay.

You!

tvsnacking · 06/02/2021 14:05

Your kid! You buy! Ofcourse Hmm

Just swap the car seat into her car like everyone else does.

Thatwentbadly · 06/02/2021 14:06

You! Or you could pay your Mum for the childcare and related costs.

BendingSpoons · 06/02/2021 14:06

If she is offering free childcare, I would think you should offer to buy the car seat. Although my parents bought it themselves and said other grandchildren would get use of it. How old is DS? You may be able to at least skip the stage 0 seat and get one that works until he is 4ish.

AnneLovesGilbert · 06/02/2021 14:06

You should, she wouldn’t need one if she wasn’t helping you out. Why should doing you a favour cost her money? Have you discussed how much you’ll be contributing to pay towards activities she takes him to?

DrCindyPops · 06/02/2021 14:06

You would pay.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 06/02/2021 14:06

You should at least offer to pay.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 06/02/2021 14:07

Absolutely you, and that can't be a bad thing because you'll be able to get a seat you are 100% happy with.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/02/2021 14:07

Why would it be anyone other than you?

BendingSpoons · 06/02/2021 14:09

I presume the OPs mum is picking up from nursery or somewhere so can't take their seat.

RuggeryBuggery · 06/02/2021 14:10

If it’s not easy to transfer yours - you should offer to pay

My mum opted to get one for herself as she already knew there were going to be multiple grandchildren and was happy to. But I wouldn’t have expected or assumed this.
But of course you should offer to pay.

DottyFlossie · 06/02/2021 14:10

You should pay.

gigantosaurusisreallyenormous · 06/02/2021 14:11

My mum bought a car seat for her car when I had my first, but I didn't ask- up until this point we were just swapping our car seat into theirs.
If she'd have told me before hand I would have bought one for her myself.

whiteroseredrose · 06/02/2021 14:11

You pay!

SantaMonicaPier · 06/02/2021 14:11

Definitely you. Why would you expect your mum to pay if she's helping you out already?

ShiteningMcQueen · 06/02/2021 14:14

You're a parent now: get used to reluctantly paying for stuff.

turnthebiglightoff · 06/02/2021 14:14

Of course you Hmm

Mylittlepony374 · 06/02/2021 14:14

Your kid. You pay. I mean, how is that even a question? Especially when she's giving you free childcare.

Shieldingending · 06/02/2021 14:14

We bought car seats for both sets of parents as they were kindly doing childcare for free. I’d say you buy it- presumably she’s saving you a fortune in nursery fees?

isitsafetocomeoutyet · 06/02/2021 14:15

You.

Really? This is a question?

Marmite27 · 06/02/2021 14:15

My mum had both my kids at half term pre Covid, I bought two car seats as ours wouldn’t fit.

Of course you buy them for her. I can’t believe you have to ask!

happytoday73 · 06/02/2021 14:16

You.
My parents covered 2 days a week for us so it was a standard joke that they got extra 'gifts' from my eldest at birthdays/christmas/mothers day etc
Car seats, highchair, bibs, changing bag, safety gates, games whatever was needed

beela · 06/02/2021 14:17

You should. Obviously.
