Lockdown with a one year old

I only want to hear from those who are bored shitless and can't entertain their babies for shit because they just eat everything and want to watch the telly all of the time. I've started to mix it up by getting Alexa to play random music so I don't have the drone of love monster going round in my head all day.

Mines 13 months.
So his brother.
I spend their nap trying to squeeze maths into the reluctant brain of their 5 year old brother, before that trying to firefight whilst we do all other work and after than letting them get all the toys out.

Mine don't walk either and it takes so long to get everyone ready and out we don't go out.

EmilyG1989 · 22/01/2021 12:32

What does everyone look forward to doing when this hell is over? I don't even have ideas my brain is like tumbleweed! It will really be starting from scratch with what to do with him!

@SleepingStandingUp haha I can think of endless things I want to do on my own, I'll be drinking more than coffee though 😂

Right now? Honestly? Coming off furlough and going back to work full time. Work is a breeze compared to this.

Same4Walls · 22/01/2021 18:31

As terrible as it sounds I honesty dont care what I do and where I go as long as I can go there and do what ever it is ALONE! Grin

I know it seems take lol but I miss MY Starbucks in my local town, it actually makes me sad seeing it on basic rations. One barista even knows my son's name 😂😂😂

Hi all! I am really looking forward to leaving the house on my own! I bet it feels so light. Why does leaving the house take so much work with small children? My 3 yr old undresses herself when we are about to leave. And my 11 month old hangs off the gate (at the top of the steps by the door) shouting at me as I get the buggy out, coats out, shoes out...! It’s just stress. If I put my coat on too soon I end up boiling. But if I leave getting my coat on til last the toddler escapes outside.

I’m going to be working from home when my mat leave is over for at least a few months. I miss office life on maternity leave, even just the drive to the office for half an hour of quiet for a couple of days a week. Now I’ll be doing my work in the evenings and weekends whilst the kids are asleep 😩

Update on things Baby has tried to eat this week: a little plastic chair from my toddler’s Frozen castle, a little bag of screws she somehow got out of DH’s work trousers, (I saw her mouth closed and said what are you eating! And bless her she instantly pulled it out and held it up to me 😂🙈) and an entire satsuma skin and all!! And the usual cat biscuits/onion skins etc.

Love this thread! Making me feel normal and less alone haha.

EmilyG1989 · 23/01/2021 07:44

@hazandduck oh you really have your hands full!! We've been up half an hour and I've already prized open his mouth and hand to get the cat biscuits out while I was making his breakfast 🤦🏻‍♀️ honestly, it's constant alert with them, I'm thinking of moving them upstairs! DH is having a lie in, you know that silent battle you have in the mornings of who's getting up? Well I'll be having mine tomorrow!! 😂

Also who's got 'give it up for Saturday, the sixth day of the weeeek' going round in their heads this morning? 😂

We are in the middle of a building site atm
( essential dodgy electrics that should have been done before baby was born, but well, Covid..). So our living space has shrunk to bedroom with us all sharing and dh in working, and one room as living/ temp kitchen/ dining. Nightmare as ds just wants to get everything out and lack of space.
3 more weeks!

Good news. Dh took ds out to the bank and bakery this morning. I had a whole 45mins without child to myself! Spent cleaning the floors but hey..

EmilyG1989 · 23/01/2021 10:39

@Caspianberg what the! 3 more weeks 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hope they fly by!! Well done on cleaning the floors/floor

hazandduck · 24/01/2021 09:31

Haha that bloody CBeebies song! I always have (sorry) Waffle doggyyy! Waffle doggy! Such a clever dog...
Good luck Caspian. We did our kitchen/diner when our eldest was just one and it was hell.
And yes I am the same if I get five minutes I just want to mop the floors 😂

Same4Walls · 24/01/2021 18:00

Just popping in to warn the universe that snow + teething child (damn molars) = not so magical family memories...

doireallyneedaname · 25/01/2021 08:32

I wish my 11 month old would watch the telly. He isn’t interested unless his favourite song is on that he can dance to. He prefers digging for wires, launching himself at the cat or darting round the house.

Same with our one year old. Only thing he ever watches is snooker!

How’s everyone getting on this week?

This thread is a great tonic for these horrendous times. It’s all just hit me as DD is one this month and has spent pretty much her whole life living through this.

I just listened to Phillipa Perry on the motherkind podcast (recommend!) and when she says how tough it’s been for new mums I just burst into tears. I didn’t realise how much I need to have those feelings validated.

HereIfYouNeedMe · 02/02/2021 15:28

@moregarlic doing ok here, I'm really tired today, first day off in a couple of weeks and just feel completely exhausted and unmotivated! I don't think I'm letting myself acknowledge how tough it's been! Feel for you with the first birthday, my DS spent his in lockdown in November last year. I still got a cake made and decorated the house, just hopefully his 2nd birthday will be different!

fassnk · 23/02/2021 09:05

How is everyone getting on? I've invested in one of those yookidoo spout toys from smyths... game changer!

ZackaryQuack · 23/02/2021 09:11

I feel your pain. Dh has been working from home since lockdown 1, because of the setup/layout of our house, he has downstairs and we have upstairs.
Ds (1.5) and I spend most days in his bedroom with music playing and building with his duplo (it's great, until he wants to smash it all up 🤦‍♀️)
Hey Duggee was the only children's TV I could tolerate last year, I now can't stand it, I've watched it that much.
We go for walks most days, he hates being in his pushchair, so he'll walk, but our walks are limited as he gets tired.
I also read to him, luckily he's got my love of books, so we can spend hours looking at his story books, but again, they're getting repetitive now...

I don't think it'd be so bad if we had more space and were able to go to toddler groups etc.

ZackaryQuack · 23/02/2021 09:12

Ahh sorry! Didn't realise this thread was a few weeks and pages in 🤦‍♀️

Bringallthebiscuits · 23/02/2021 12:41

The news of schools reopening has me excited, as then I can start working part time again and on my days off a couple of days a week will only have a one year old to entertain, rather than her four year old brother with very different needs being here every single flipping moment.
