Lockdown with a one year old

I only want to hear from those who are bored shitless and can't entertain their babies for shit because they just eat everything and want to watch the telly all of the time. I've started to mix it up by getting Alexa to play random music so I don't have the drone of love monster going round in my head all day.

@KatieKat88 @hellolittlebaby I'll educate myself and start it! He's 13 months almost 14 months so would be great to have that communication if he's up for it 🤗

So much love for this thread. I have a 16 month old monster (who started today at 10:30pm Sunday because sleep is for losers) and he is so bored of toys. I also have an 8 year old who thinks it's death by homeschooling. We tried colouring today, this was the baby just throwing pencils everywhere and trying to unplug DH's laptop while the eldest asked me questions about Anglo Saxons. The struggle is real. I'd forgotten about aqua doodle, off to Amazon...

Disneyblue · 18/01/2021 22:46

Wow. You're all doing better than us. I've got a 15 month old and literally just let her play with her toys, go for the odd walk and that's it. All she wants to do is push her trolley round at the moment. Thankfully she goes to nursery twice a week so breaks it up a bit. I do worry she's not getting enough stimulation, but she seems pretty happy to me.

I have a 3-year-old and a 7-month-old. I. Am. So. Fucking. Bored. I love my kids but fuck, I need a weekend* away from them. While DS naps the TV babysits DD and I lie down on the sofa and try not to die. Sympathies.

*month

Same4Walls · 19/01/2021 06:54

@KatieKat88

I have DD, 14 months. Been teaching her baby signing. She's learnt the sign for book, amazing! Except now she wants another story every 5 minutes and I know them all off by heart and its driving me insane Hmm
I know that feeling. I've read so many that's not my books recently I had a dream, or maybe it counts as a nightmare, that I was reading them last night. Grin
EmilyG1989 · 19/01/2021 07:17

@Disneyblue that's about it for us too, he is happy so I should stop worrying, this thread had made me stop the mum guilt!
I can't remember user names to tag but you're cracking me up... *month away lol
8 year old and a baby! I need to check in on my friend, she has an 8 year old, 2 year old and a 1 year old 🤦🏻‍♀️ we talk but we're all in our own hell right now wanting what we can't have hey!

Thank you so much for starting this thread, OP! I can't tell you how much better it has made me feel. My twins will be 1 next week and I'm really starting to struggle, I had a big cry about it all last night. Mine don't even listen to me, respond to their names or seem to understand anything, and I'm starting to think something is wrong. Maybe it is the effects of pretty much no socialising throughout their little lives! In a way I hope it is just that, it's a scary time to need help when there's even less support available than in the good old pre-corona days.

But yeah, I am really feeling the guilt... The TV is on more than it is off etc. Walks are the highlight of our day too... "Ooh look another doggy! Can you hear the birds??"

My new favourite thing to do is look for signs of spring - we saw snowdrops yesterday which gave me a little feeling of hope Smile

EmilyG1989 · 19/01/2021 10:10

@worriedmumoftwins try not to worry hun there's nothing wrong with them, just babies! Mines the same, I'm sure he knows his name but ignore me on purpose 😂

OP this might make you feel better. What do all these items have in common??

I have caught my nearly one year old eating ALL of them!

I have a 3 year old too so quite lucky I guess that they play together. But yeah I’m out of inspiration.

@hazandduck haha that's cracked me up!! The cat biscuits especially 🤦🏻‍♀️

Honestly never known a baby like it. EVERYTHING goes in her mouth. I have aged more in the last 5 months or so since she started crawling than I have in my whole 32 years 😂 I think she sees it as a game! So I guess it keeps her entertained lol.

Caspianberg · 19/01/2021 10:47

Morning. Mine loves eating everything as well, glad to see we aren’t alone. So far today he has managed to pull orchid complete out of pot, got his hand stuck in the bin, licked grit off my shoe! Found a bit of random 1cm wood on floor to eat, chased cat again, licked all the patio doors in reach. He’s finally napping

hazandduck · 19/01/2021 11:01

😂😂 @Caspianberg we have the same baby!

EmilyG1989 · 19/01/2021 12:12

Haha there's three of them! @hazandduck

Same4Walls · 19/01/2021 19:44

Can I add DS to the ever growing group of children who simply must try and eat everything.

P. S. DS I know I that the dough I made today was 'taste safe' but you've deliberately misunderstood. 'Taste safe' means it wont hurt your tummy if you eat it, not hey look this is your lunch... Hmm

fassnk · 19/01/2021 20:15

Thank god its not just me! DS is 19months. wont play with anything - not interested in paints, crayons, messy play with flour or lentils or whatever, aquadoodle - he just tries to eat everything or play with stuff he isnt allowed like scissors and knives and gets cross when i say no. hey duggee is the only thing he'll sit and watch, im worried he'll woof before he speaks!

EmilyG1989 · 19/01/2021 21:22

@fassnk I wonder that too haha
Laughing again @Same4Walls 😂

Today I have spent circa 87 hours holding mine at the living room window so he can wave at birds. This was the only thing that stopped him eating pens. This is my life now.

EmilyG1989 · 21/01/2021 12:52

Hope you're all hanging in there this week! 🤪

Caspianberg · 21/01/2021 13:05

@EmilyG1989 - all good here.
This morning Ds has eaten a corner from an amazon cardboard box, repeatedly crawled under the sofa and got wedged, and now crawling around a pair of giant ski goggles of his head

EmilyG1989 · 21/01/2021 13:29

@Caspianberg hahaaa sounds familiar 😂

Morning all it was a very early start here today... Is it bedtime yet?

Sexnotgender · 22/01/2021 07:00

DS is 23 months, we’ve been up since 4am. It’s going to be a looooong day.

We’re both working full time 😫 using my annual leave at a day a week and my parents are doing 2 days now but it’s just absolutely horrendous.

Sprintfinish · 22/01/2021 09:18

Loving this thread! I have a 25m old and a 6m old. Lockdown has been tough!!

If we can get out we're doing well as it's a military operation getting 3 of us ready. If it's a house day it's a mixture of cbeebies, books, cars and throwing megablocks over his shoulder instead of building them. I've tried to do arts and crafts but the prep and tidy time is longer than it keeps toddler amused. I had no idea what a short attention span they have!

I've never been so keen to do the dishes and make the dinner as I am now as soon as DP finishes work and I get to escape their madness.

PeanuttButtaCup · 22/01/2021 09:23

I have a 15 month old and I’m 26 weeks pregnant, also a single mum. I’m going crazy!. DS needs constant attention, I’m always trying to think of things to do with him but he does it for about 10 minutes and then wants to move on to something else. I’ve slightly given up, I do a couple of activities a day but then I must admit we do watch a lot of CBeebies. I live in a flat so no garden, but I go for a walk a day. It is driving me insane, it feels like every day is the same
