Where to get clothes for a tall, slim toddler?

DS 22 months is top of the charts for height and bottom for weight, he has a narrow, slight build with long legs.

He needs some new clothes for winter but I’m struggling to get stuff, especially trousers that are long enough that won’t fall down. Today I’m returning an H&M order as the trousers are comically large around the waist/bum, while the Zara stuff is slimmer but far too short so has to go back too.

The best I’ve found is Petit Bateau but I can’t afford that for everything. Has anyone with similar shaped DC got any recommendations?

Mine is short and stocky and JoJo Maman stuff is often too slim cut for him, so maybe try there?

H&M trousers I always find far too big on waist and bum for my slim boys too.

Next jeans have the best fit for us. They have the adjustable waist and are quite slim fit anyway.

I always found Peacocks clothes came out on the slim side. That was a few years ago though, don't know what they are like now.

I was going to suggest Zara. Next is not very slim cut but the trousers usually have adjustable waists.

Have you tried waistbands with working drawstring so you can pull and tie? Also adjustable belts when alittle older are a godsend. One of mine has the same issue.

H&m are cut with cloth nappies in mind so are very generous on thr waist and bum.

DS wore M&S ‘girls’ leggings in 2-3 when we had this problem. He was out of nappies from 18 months and skinny around the hips so most trousers were comically large. Thankfully it was over the summer so he could spend a lot of time naked or in 9-12/12-18 shorts! Thankfully he’s chunked out a bit in the last couple of months since turning 2.

We are limited to online shopping right now (overseas and not many local options), but I will remember Primark and Peacocks for the future. Waistbands with drawstrings help but it’s hard to tell online which are real and not just decorative.
Next adjustable waists sounds good. I will look into JoJoMaman. Anyone tried Vertbaudet? Mango?

I came on to suggest vertbaudet. Good for my tall skinny DCs

Vertbaudet were good for my narrow hipped DD. Also Primark.

Gap do skinny adjustable jeans as well.

You can adjust your own waists if something is ok otherwise, either add more elastic into the waist band or unpick the waistband and tighten the elastic by sewing it to itself.

Boden is generally huge on the waist I've found.

If you're in France the supermarket own brands were a lot more long and slim than UK supermarkets.

I have this issue with my daughter. Thankfully she can wear dresses and tights but I find Morrisons clothes, nutmeg, sometimes have a smaller waist and some adjustable waists too. Also, look for working drawstring waists, M&S usually have some. My MIL also sometimes takes the trousers in for us, or I do it myself if it's something that looks easy. I'm reading with interest though, didn't know Zara had slimmer cut things, so will have a look there. I'm actually finding it easier to find things as she's getting bigger and taller as I think in the older sizes things are cut a bit slimmer. From 18 months to 3 years it was hard to find things (I think lots of shops leave room for nappies) but now she's in 3-4 I'm finding it a little easier.

Great, I’ll look at Vertbaudet and La redoute. Maybe DS has a more typically French shape.

Otherwise it might have to be girl’s leggings.. not that warm for winter though.

Fiddling around with waistbands and elastic is the last resort, I’m crap at sewing, DM could take stuff in easily but can’t visit right now due to Covid.

If you look around a bit, you can usual find ribbed leggings, either ribbed cotton or occasionally a more knitted rib, and they're warmer than standard leggings. I'm pretty sure I've seen some at M&S and various supermarkets. We've also had some cord-style ones – JoJo Maman Bebe definitely do those, but I've found them elsewhere as well.

Like Motherissues, I've found M&S usually have working drawstrings on their joggers, and I think they're a bit slimmer cut than some (but check the size chart, because M&S do height to age a little differently from most UK shops).

I have girls but always found next good they have adjustable waists on lots of things

My son has a tiny waist and lived in joggers from Boots until he was about 3. They are very reasonably priced. M&S trousers mostly have those adjustable waists which you can pull right in. Not sure about the length, my son also had short legs I think but we always had to fold the bottoms up so you might be ok.

Primark! It was a nightmare as it was the only place that did trousers that fitted my toddler, they do "slim fit" which are the only things that stayed up.

H&M and Sainsbury's work now he's a bit older.

We had this issue with my girl when she was in age 2-3 clothes and found TX Maxx to be good.

I know you said you weren't in the UK but maybe someone could take a look for you.

They had some brands with tiny waists and really long legs but we had to hunt the rails for them. I think they were European.

You could also try some things from the 'girls' section as they definitely have narrower waists and some styles are unisex.
