Shamelessly posting for traffic.

I have wondered all day whether to post this or not but ultimately it might help save one person from viewing something they shouldn't.

For every single one of you who allows your young child to use TikTok please be aware that there is a video circulating today of a man committing suicide. Yes, he did it in a live stream and the video is all over the place now. TikTok is that one social that you cannot prevent you children from seeing ANY content. If you allow them the app you allow them the content.

Get your child off the app now unless you wanted them traumatised for life after watching someone shoot their brains quite literally out.

Stop apologising, there are some on here who are insatiable.

Coriandersucks · 08/09/2020 10:36

I have to say I’m glad that @MessyMummy15 pointed out what other content there is, albeit shocking to read, but I am one of those people who dismissed the whole ‘TikTok is evil’ as I only ever see funny videos. Literally no idea some of that awful stuff went on.

gamerchick · 08/09/2020 10:38

I'm disgusted to have seen people actively seeking out the video online because they wanted to see it

It's very untraceable like. I could see something like that film actually happening at some point.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 08/09/2020 10:40

I can't believe how much shit op is getting. Ive seen the video its certainly not something kids should be viewing.

Op you were trying to do a good thing by warning people, don't apologise for that.

ChanceChanceChance · 08/09/2020 10:43

Thanks op, I think the more parents understand the better so nothing wrong with telling even if not everyone feels concerned. Don't feel defensive, no need.

ChickenwingChickenwing · 08/09/2020 10:50

MNHQ are looking at the thread now. I have been over and over it and I do think, as I said last night, some parents are being defensive as they think I am criticising them personally. The majority of those are not who I am talking to. They are already doing it right. Unfortunately many people seem unwilling to accept that a lot of parents do not do it right.

I hope the thread gets to stand, there is an important message, however if MNHQ decide to remove it I completely understand why. Either way I won't spend any more time apologising, if the thread stands I would like it to move forward. If anyone posts to have a go at me for my posts yesterday they will just be ignored.

Looking at the thread for what? Informing people? You haven’t done anything wrong Confused

gamerchick · 08/09/2020 10:55

That's the spirit OP. Grin

People has posted a graphic description of what happens, without a trigger warning.

I inadvertently quoted one. Both ChickenwingChickenwing & myself reported them.

AgnesNaismith · 08/09/2020 10:58

You’ve done nothing wrong OP, you must stop apologising.

I hope they leave the thread up, hopefully it’ll stop some parents sticking their heads in the sand and pretending they had no idea the damage they’re causing to their children.

I asked them to look at it because someone was upset by the fact it had no trigger warning. MNHQ added one on my request but I thought given the reactions of so many that maybe the thread was wrong Sad

Thank you. I'm a bit unsure about the whole thread now tbh. Still, MNHQ can decide now.

I won't apologise any more though, it's making me tired Grin

I do want to add though, the very point being made re lack of trigger warnings is actually why I posted.

People don't want to read about this on MN.

People don't want to see it on TikTok.

thewalkers · 08/09/2020 11:01

I'm glad you posted this. My 14 year old doesn't have TikTok but does use other social media, so I will be having a chat with him to be very careful of the videos he clicks on.
I do use Tiktok and know seeing this would affect me, so I'm happy you posted.

And you're so obviously traumatised you had to make a point of eagerly jumping back into the thread to have another go?

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 08/09/2020 11:08

You made it clear in your op what the thread was about, don't feel bad about not putting a trigger warning on, it's quite clear what was being discussed, and anyone reading further should have known there may be a description of the actual video. Anyone reading further then complaining about the lack of trigger warning on is being ridiculous and looking for something to complain about.

I don’t want to downplay anything but...the irony...

differentnameforthis · 08/09/2020 11:11

@gamerchick

Not me, but others. I didn't want to see it, but I was traumatised! I was, in that moment pissed off at the op for seemingly being in a place of wanting to warn people, and then just blurting out the method with no regard for triggers...

You will also see that I further spoke to the op about the issue too.

differentnameforthis · 08/09/2020 11:13

*wasn't traumatised...

What Irony? The fact that I inadvertently quoted op then (as I explained) asked for the post to be deleted?

Coriandersucks · 08/09/2020 11:17

It took a description of what happens in some of these videos to make me realise how serious it was. By all means add a trigger warning to the post if that has upset some people but don’t remove it completely.

I think that poster is referring to the term 'trigger warning'

The irony that a thread (for adults) warning people that a video pops up on an app (mainly for children) without any trigger warning is being complained about because the thread had no trigger warning.

And yet you're back on another day to carry on?
