5 month old wetting through cloth and pampers nappies by 4am

our baby has been waking at 4am every night recently and when I go through he has wet through his nappy and sleeping bag. He only goes to bed at 7!

What do most people suggest? I have tried 2 types of pampers, the premium and stay dry and a tots bots bamboozle and wrap but he still soaked through that last night.

Should I just change him at 10pm when I dream feed him? I don't really want to as he wakes so just wondering what alternatives there are

Normal.

Change the nappy before you go to bed

wingingitalltheway · 04/07/2020 07:13

Do you need to go up a nappy size? That might be the reason.
If not then yes I would change when you do dream feed. That’s what I did until my baby slept through the night.

DD is 5 months old. I breastfeed to bed around 7 pm. Then at 11 pm spouse does a bottle feed and changes nappy. Then she wakes at 7 am for breast feed and nappy is ok.

Without that dream feed and nappy change she would wake hungry and night and wet at 4 am.

If you don’t need the feed just do the nappy.

"5 month old sleeps through" is what you're saying?

It's a laundry issue.

1940s · 04/07/2020 07:22

Try different nappies. I never liked pampers but the Sainsbury's own brand have worked well on my long torso Toddler.

Violet956 · 04/07/2020 07:24

I found either going up a size or a looser vest helped.

My lo has a nappy change about 9pm. Is fine until 8am.

BertieBotts · 04/07/2020 07:27

Go up a size. Get a + size if they do them in his size. Try different brands - Pampers Premium Protection seem the best for keeping them dry feeling, but not necessarily the most absorbant. If still no luck, layer - 2x disposable one over the other, disposable with cloth booster, or disposable covered with cloth outer.

He won't be sleeping through if the nappy is leaking and waking him up. So not just a laundry issue.

I have a heavy night wetter as well, it can be a real pain!

Duckchick · 04/07/2020 07:30

In our case, going up a size just at night fixed leakages. It's also worth trying a couple more brands as how the nappies fit affects how much they leak.

I put mine in the nappy size above their weight to stop that happening

BadgertheBodger · 04/07/2020 10:35

I found Pampers absolutely useless at lasting more than about 4 hours with DS. Aldi were by far the best and he’s still in them overnight at 3 now. You just need to try a few different brands and maybe go up a size until you find the right combination. If you’re using a cloth nappy have you tried a booster?

VeggieSausageRoll · 04/07/2020 10:40

What size? We had nighttime leaks (coincidentally on the nights my husband did bedtime whilst I was working...) with the tabbed nappies. Swapped to nappy pants (can't be put on too loose or tight) and not had a leak since.

Also used to find as he was outgrowing vests he would leak as there wasn't enough expansion room. Sizing up vests at nighttime solved that one

Wanderer1 · 04/07/2020 10:42

Are you boosting your bamboozles, they will definitely need a hemp or bamboo booster, probably two, for overnight

Itisbetter · 04/07/2020 10:44

Weren’t you expecting to change his nappy during the night? Confused

AriettyHomily · 04/07/2020 10:44

Change at 10.

Enko · 04/07/2020 10:45

Try a wool wrap over the cloth nappy

Mmmmycorona · 04/07/2020 10:48

Pampers in our experience were awful, leaked in less than an hour. We prefer supermarket own brand +.

PrayingandHoping · 04/07/2020 10:48

I had exactly same issue with pampers.... utterly useless and I was changing her at 10pm!!

Someone recommended Rascal nappies to me.... they are a revelation! I can now change her at 7pm and she is still dry at 7am!! They sell them in tescos...

Footlooseandfancy · 04/07/2020 12:35

I've always done a night time change - just before I go to bed.

Worth look at vest size - you can get vest expanders to create a bit more room. Similarly with baby grows/PJ's is worth checking their not too tight. My DC is a front sleeper and the compression doesn't help!

angel0071987 · 04/07/2020 12:42

Little lamb reusables. Boosted. And with wrap over top. Make sure vest isn't too tight.

BertieBotts · 04/07/2020 15:11

better I don't change nappies at night past a couple of weeks old! Why would you want to? It wakes you up fully, it wakes them up.

ThickFast · 04/07/2020 15:18

Pampers don’t seem to hold as much as others and feel damp on outside easily. Try aldi. And a size up for nights.

Itisbetter · 04/07/2020 16:28

@BertieBotts I’d want to because I wouldn’t want to sleep in a wet nappy. It’s also good for potty training later because a baby that is kept clean and dry likes being “clean and dry” on the whole. Many babies tolerate a change of nappy without waking completely.

Ginandtonic31 · 04/07/2020 18:13

I've found that Sainsbury's nappies are the only nappies that last my 4 month old through the night 12 hours. Nothing else worked. And they're only £3 for 57 nappies.

managedmis · 04/07/2020 18:16

They need a change during the night
