5 month old wetting through cloth and pampers nappies by 4am

our baby has been waking at 4am every night recently and when I go through he has wet through his nappy and sleeping bag. He only goes to bed at 7!

What do most people suggest? I have tried 2 types of pampers, the premium and stay dry and a tots bots bamboozle and wrap but he still soaked through that last night.

Should I just change him at 10pm when I dream feed him? I don't really want to as he wakes so just wondering what alternatives there are

Those saying they need a change in the night how would you do this? Just set an alarm halfway through? I'm worried now as I leave mine all night in hers and as a FTM don't want to be doing something wrong 😕

Harrysmummy246 · 04/07/2020 19:15

@Ginandtonic31

Honestly, we stopped changing overnight once DS stopped pooing every feed etc

Mostly they last fine, apart from occasional tuck ins or particularly heavy nights

He potty trained just fine and is happy to take it off first thing (no chance overnight yet)

Please don't worry

mynameiscalypso · 04/07/2020 19:22

@Ginandtonic31 I only change in the night for a poo or for a leak - that's been the same since DS was a couple of months. He screams through nappy changes as it is so that's not going to help the quality of his sleep at all!

OP, I agree bigger nappies. We use the pampers pure which seem better than regular pampers but I've always found that leaking is a sign that the nappy is too small.

I never changed in night once they stopped pooing either. Even if kids woke for a feed. Which they did every hour. Neither of them got nappy rash or anything.

Harrysmummy246 · 04/07/2020 19:23

Agree @ThickFast

It's poo that causes nappy rash

AuntVictoria · 04/07/2020 19:26

I don't change during the night either after the newborn stage, unless there's a poo or nappy leak.

OP, try different brands of nappies - we've always found Aldi to be the best. I don't agree that a leak is inevitable without a change, I've never found that to be the case. You just need the nappies which are the best fit for your baby.

Ginandtonic31 · 04/07/2020 19:28

Oh thank you @Harrysmummy246 and @mynameiscalypso. It's so hard knowing the right thing to do! She never poos in the night and not leaking in Sainsbury's nappies I've just been leaving her. It's not disturbed her and no sore bum. Just the potty training comment worried me.

ThickFast · 04/07/2020 19:32

Potty training is fine even if you don’t change them in the night. If your baby is sleeping ok and not sure then don’t worry about it.

Ginandtonic31 · 04/07/2020 19:35

@ThickFast I normally always think you rarely sees child at school in a nappy so would potty train eventually!

BadAlice · 04/07/2020 19:35

Baba and boo hemp booster, wool wrap. Game changer.

ZooKeeper19 · 04/07/2020 19:46

Terry + booster+fleece liner+wool wrap. Bulletproof. 8pm-8am. No leaks.

schnubbins · 04/07/2020 19:46

I used to put two nappies on.Long time ago though.

Lotsofpots · 04/07/2020 19:50

Bamboozles never absorbent enough for night for us. Ellas house and petit lulu nights, both boosted, with a wrap, and loose babygro over it always works for mine.

june2007 · 04/07/2020 19:56

Change at 10.00. Never lasted more then 7 hours in any nappy. Bumhugger/ or similarhemp nappies are good, do you boost your bamboozled that may help. A fleece soaker is good for containment as well.
Disp wise I don,t rate pampers I found boots and Morrisons own brands better.

Cactuslove · 04/07/2020 20:08

DP changes our 20month DS at around midnight when he comes to bed. Always has since we had leaks too. DS mkvds his arms legs in his sleep for nappy change without waking up... aw it's quite cute really.

Samantha1712xx · 04/07/2020 20:33

Pampers are rubbish try a super market own brand they’re so much better

Nat6999 · 04/07/2020 21:05

Try pullups, they are more elastic ated to allow for more movement, he will be starting crawling before long & they will keep him dry day & night

Marpan · 04/07/2020 21:21

Pampers pure

GimmeAy · 04/07/2020 21:26

Is this a wind up? 7pm until 4am is 9 hours and he's a 5 month old and you 'dream' feed him at 10pm. What is he supposed to do - hold it?
Change him at 10pm.

GimmeAy · 04/07/2020 21:30

I found Pampers the best for keeping the wet away from the bottom. It would be a wet weight in the mornings, but they never got nappy rash with Pampers. They did with other brands/own brands. I was cash strapped but would pay out the extra for Pampers nappies.
You're expecting a baby to go 9+ hours during the night in one nappy!
7 hours is good going, so for me, 12am to 7am. But 9 hours? It must be uncomfortable having wee on himself.

GimmeAy · 04/07/2020 21:32

And is someone mentioning potty training?
The baby is 5 MONTHS old, not 5 years old!!

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 04/07/2020 21:42

Try a different brand. I don't like pampers and found they felt damp at times. I find the best ones are Morrison's own or Asda's own. Also try going up a size

Dyra · 05/07/2020 00:20

Going to echo others, we had to go up a size of nappy only at night time.

Also, when she was wearing a vest at night (comfortable in a baby grow + sleep bag now), when she'd nearly grown out of them, and they were getting a little tight, that would trigger leaking as well.

I've had the opposite experience to others in that I've found Pampers better at night than Aldis. Just my personal opinion though.

FTM as well. I don't change DD at night unless she's pooped or leaked. Fortunately she rarely does either.

ExhaustedBeyondBelief · 05/07/2020 00:28

Change nappy at the dream feed or before you go to bed

ExhaustedBeyondBelief · 05/07/2020 00:33

I wouldn't personally leave a baby in a wet nappy for 12 hours....

Thats a long time
