5 month old wetting through cloth and pampers nappies by 4am

our baby has been waking at 4am every night recently and when I go through he has wet through his nappy and sleeping bag. He only goes to bed at 7!

What do most people suggest? I have tried 2 types of pampers, the premium and stay dry and a tots bots bamboozle and wrap but he still soaked through that last night.

Should I just change him at 10pm when I dream feed him? I don't really want to as he wakes so just wondering what alternatives there are

Keep trying different brands, I had the same problem with mine. And as others have said go a size up. In the end I tried pull ups when she was big enough and found them so much better.

okiedokieme · 07/07/2020 16:47

I used Egyptian cotton prefold nappies and separate covers, no issues with leakage - breastfed multiple times during the night, we coslept. Changed around 10pm then again 7am

I’d be cutting out the dream feed. If they wake up hungry in the night you can change the nappy then, if it seems particularly full. Also, make sure to go up a size in vest as well as nappy, as if the clothes are too tight it restricts the nappy’s ability to expand and is more likely to leak.

@Itisbetter

You just look far too into things.

Even on this thread alone, waking a baby to change a nappy isn’t the norm

Itisbetter · 07/07/2020 17:56

You just look far too into things I’m not sure what this means? Do you mean I have an opinion???Confused

The thing is @2155User I know and have known a fair few parents and so I can tell you quite confidently that they don’t as a rule lease their children in stinky wet nappies all night. Perhaps you just have a particular group of friends that do???

2155User · 07/07/2020 18:36

@Itisbetter

I have never mentioned my friends, I’ve merely stated a higher proportion of people on this thread have said they would.

I’m not sure why you’re acting so bizarre/odd, it’s very weird.

Itisbetter · 07/07/2020 20:02

Perhaps I am weird? What on Earth is bizarre/odd about having different, yet totally mainstream, opinions about how often nappies should be changed than yourself?Confused. As I said I have/and have had many friends with children and don’t find it unusual to change a nappy in the night. I would say it’s the norm. Perhaps rather than calling everyone who does things differently to you names you should just accept there are very many ways to raise children and care for babies?

OP I would just change the baby if it’s wet. In the long run it is easier.

Rubyroost · 07/07/2020 20:07

Gosh no, the nappy stays on for as long as the baby sleeps. Sleep is precious for baby and parent!

2155User · 07/07/2020 21:45

@Itisbetter

I never called anyone names, I said you’re acting bizarre.

2+2=5 is how you clearly think.

Cherry85 · 07/07/2020 21:49

@2155User @Itisbetter I wasn't wanting to start a fight. Everyone parents their own way and there is nothing weird about either of you other than arguing about this with some random on a public forum lol.

2155user - maybe itisbetter's baby needs a change in the night otherwise it would leak - waking a sleeping baby when I do the dream feed is exactly what many on this post are suggesting.

@itisbetter - maybe 2155user's baby is a light wetter and therefore doesn't need a change at night. Have you ever felt the inside of a wet wet nappy? They still feel dry until the leaking stage.

Anyway - each to their own but let's not make it personal.

My 3.5 yo is still in nappies and has 2 terry squares overnight, they are big and he doesn't like them but he rarely needs an overnight nappy change and never leaks.

Itisbetter · 08/07/2020 00:00

@Cherry85 thanks, I’m sorry for distracting from your thread. I have 5 children, so yes, I’ve experienced a fair few nappies Grin. How you manage hygiene/sleep/feeding really is dependent on the baby and the family. I hope you find what works for you.Brew

2155User · 08/07/2020 13:27

@Cherry85

Better for you maybe, but not for everyone.

I have never done a dream feed and never had any leaking nappies so clearly it would be an absolute waste of my time and a disruption to my child’s sleep to wake a sleeping baby to change them.

Obviously, if you’re doing a dream feed where you’re already waking up yourself to feed baby then by all means it makes sense to change them, but it makes utterly no sense for me, who doesn’t dream feed and therefore both me and baby are asleep, to set some sort alarm to change baby in the middle of the night

Cherry85 · 08/07/2020 13:39

@2155User

Eh yeah thats what I said.... if you re read my last post in regards to you and @Itisbetter I think you'll see that. That every baby is different.

Thanks for your help and advice but feel free not to reply lol. For someone who is on a site where everyone helps each other with advice and suggestions you seem to take offence to everyone else's way of doing anything.

We are not saying your way is wrong lol....take it easy!

I found trying different brands and moving to the + in the size they wear made a huge different at night. I didn't change DS' if he was asleep, although if he woke for any reason I'd usually change it, and of course if it was a dirty nappy. No skin irritation or trouble potty training, so up to you.

2155User · 08/07/2020 13:54

@Cherry85

I’ve not taken offence to anything.
It isn’t me to got so bizarre about such a little thing.

I think maybe it’s others that need to take it easy, as if saying that ever helps anything
