may soon have to buy dd a 'good' cello.

It will cost lots. Have already told dd that if we get it, and she decides to quit, I will dispatch her with the bow and bury her in the case. She assures me that she intends to continue her studies.

WideWebWitch · 22/09/2007 16:32

The Wii IS fab though.

Tamum · 22/09/2007 16:33

Cellos are hideously expensive, aren't they? Dd gets the use of one free at the moment, but the time will come. Luckily violins are nowhere near as bad...

I was going to get ds and dd a wii for xmas, now dd said she doesn't want that she wants ££.

It's far too expensive for ds to have on his own.

Maybe dh wants it for his xmas aswell

Where are there any available?

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 22/09/2007 16:33

My DS does the recyling on a Saturday morning and earns the princely sum of 50p, can I be a stallion ??

LadyTophamHatt · 22/09/2007 16:33

Oh god, don't get me started.

DH went out and spent £100 on a hornby train set for ds1 about 2 weeks after his birthday.

I just couldn't work out why and I was very cross, IMO 8 is too young for a trainset like that. Its something that it bilt over a long time and time sepnt on it.

When I questioned Dh about it it turned out that HE wanted it too.

FGS, you'd think he'd have enough of trains, wouldn't you?

(and 6 months later the train is broke and some of teh track is bend out of shape so useless...and it wasn't dh who did it)

brimfull · 22/09/2007 16:34

MB-yes we just had to upgrade dd's flute ,cost a small fortune, she will play now until she's an old lady now!

Gobbledigook · 22/09/2007 16:35

No no no - totally agree cod

The new United kit is out and ds1 knows he will have to wait for FC to bring it. Ds2 will probaby get one in Nov for his birthday but ds1 will still have to wait.

Ditto bikes - they've both come of stabilisers this summer and their current ones are way too small but I'm not buying bikes for 'no reason'.

No - mine get lots of days out, eats out etc but not toys or gifts - only toys and gifts on birthdays or Christmas (or, indeed, if they were abandoned in the shopping centre but I'd have to restrain myself from killing dh in order to avoid said gift!)

Tamum · 22/09/2007 16:35

ggirl, you can get them everywhere as far as I can see- Virgin and HMV have them in, Amazon, Play everywhere like that. I keep wondering whether to get one now in case though. Animal Crossing is going to be released for the Wii in November apparently.

LadyTophamHatt · 22/09/2007 16:35

ggirl, ds1, 2 and 3 wil be getting a Wii for xmas.

Will save us £££££ on pointless crap that we'd usually buy.

Tinker · 22/09/2007 16:35

I hate gadgets and technology though - have had an mp3 player for a year - never got round to learning how to put stuff on it. Still won't use teh digital camera as can't be arsed learning how to.

Blandmum · 22/09/2007 16:36

yes, the darn girl would decide on the cello, wouldn't she? I've got a flute ffs, but, no, it had to be the cello.

She's been hiring a 1/4 size and this one is 3/4. It came on the market and her teacher is v enthusiastic as she knows its 'history' and tells me it is a good one.

I'm taking it into my school to get the music dept to check it over

Gobbledigook · 22/09/2007 16:37

'off stabilisers'

Tamum · 22/09/2007 16:37

See Tinker, you could have a proper picture of you on Facebook if you learned to use it...

I'm sure it will be a good investment, mb, but great if you can check it properly. I am going to hold out until dd needs a full size I think.

brimfull · 22/09/2007 16:37

Well the guy in virgin laughed heartily when I asked if they had any wii's in,said he had no idea when they would be getting some.

Is there anywhere you can reserve them and pay later?

Gobbledigook · 22/09/2007 16:38

God and 'afford said gift'.

I'll just get on with my work I think

LyraBelacqua · 22/09/2007 16:38

Wiis aren't just for boys, Tinker, so don't be too sure that you're safe

Gobbledigook · 22/09/2007 16:39

LTH, isn't it great when you've got a big thing you can buy for Christmas? SOooo much easier. Ds1 and ds2 will get a bike, ds1 will also get football kit and I've already decided to get them a new swimming towel (exciting huh?!). I'm nearly sorted already!!

brimfull · 22/09/2007 16:39

MB -it has history ! Does it come with a logbook?
SOunds farkin ££££

unknownrebelbang · 22/09/2007 16:39

Mine had to "make do" with smaller birthday presents this year because we're going on holiday at Christmas - they'll get next to nowt for Christmas given that we're on holiday anyway. (I will be packing stockings, but they'll be cheapo fun stuff).

Tamum · 22/09/2007 16:40

They've got loads in here, how odd.

unknownrebelbang · 22/09/2007 16:40

lol, oh yes, they'll all be getting new towels this year.

Tinker · 22/09/2007 16:40

lol tamum - see it has advantages. You're right LB but if my 10 year-old ask for one I'll just say "new bike instead?"

Tamum · 22/09/2007 16:40

(sorry, that was to ggirl)

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 22/09/2007 16:41

dd's have added a wii to their xmas list dd1 also broke her nintendo ds last week, so have said she can add it to her xmas list.

i am starting xmas shopping already. the wii (if i decide to get it) will be a family present, not for the children. they have a gamecube already though, which is fine and works ok, so am reluctant to replace it.
